The same name brand franchise salon that she worked for had a conveniently located place not far from where I live. However it had terrible reviews so I decided I did not want to go there and get a lousy haircut and be treated in a lousy way. So I took a chance on Hair Max Salon. It was worth the few extra miles. I received probably the most professional haircut I have had in many years. Tania was fantastic. She is a very skilled professional. She earned and deserves a nice generous tip. I will be back.

To be fair, I made a mistake and thought my appointment was at 9:30 when it was actually at 9:00. When Cheron called me at 9:10 I immediately apologized and even offered twice to reschedule if that was easier. Instead she just asked for my ETA in an irritated tone and said she'd see me soon. From the minute I got there the whole appointment felt tense. I asked for a simple trim, some face framing pieces, and something low maintenance since I don't spend a lot of time styling my hair. It didn't feel like a difficult request but I felt like my preferences were an inconvenience. Even the shampoo was so rough it was uncomfortable instead of relaxing. The haircut itself turned out nice but what really shocked me was the finish. I paid $150 and expected at least a basic styling. Instead, my hair was blow dried with her fingers... no round brush, no comb, no straightener, no curls. Nothing. I genuinely couldn't believe that was the finished result. I'm happy I ended up with a decent haircut but the overall experience felt uncomfortable from start to finish and nowhere near the level of service I expected.

I've gone there for 5+ years and never a bad experience. I'm not sure why I didn't write a rave review for Salon de la Vie before but I know why I am now. Another client told me about an outrageous customer who insulted the staff with totally disrespectful language in front of other customers then posted to Yelp. Hair can be emotional but so is making your livelihood by building an amazing business through positive word of mouth. This one 2nd hand review speaks to service that is the opposite of all that I have seen from Angie or the team. IF Angie were ever slightly rude, it must have taken a ton of abuse to provoke it. I'm not sure why someone would go somewhere they thought was overpriced to get a haircut they did not like 3x, before losing one's cool on the fourth. But the story made me think of this amazing article that I read called "Maybe You Get Bad Customer Service Because You Are a Bad Customer" by Matt Walsh. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/matt-walsh/bad-customer-service_b_3799574.html In this 'customer is always right" world, perhaps the problem is that there are too many "no star" customers.

The person who took my call was so friendly and welcoming and thorough in understanding my wife and I's haircutting needs. My appointment was with Alicia and she was really fantastic! I showed her a couple of pictures of what I wanted and ended up with my favorite haircut I've had in a long time!! She is also so easy to talk to and gave me some great tips and product recommendations to help manage my curly hair. Thanks Alicia! My wife also got a great short haircut (by Joseph? we forgot his name). She usually keeps her hair below shoulder length so she really appreciated his insight into styling and care tips. As far as COVID concerns go, I felt super safe for my whole appointment. Notable precautions they're taking include: masks for all employees and customers at all times, appointment only (no walk ins), partitions between all salon stations, and additional cleaning around the store. Definitely doing their part in keeping their customers and community safe! d' Artiste Salon will be my go-to recommendation for Atlanta hair salons from now on and am already looking forward to my next visit!
