These guys are the worst. Don't go through this bank if you can, they return RDC loan payments and don't tell you, looks like fishing for late fees to me. Branches phone numbers are disconnect. What does that tell ya?. Not good. Don't be like me and steer clear of theses Jagaloons. Would give it negative stars if I could read more

I had a wonderful credit union that I did business with since 1986 with ZERO issues. Credit Union 1 bought it out 4 months ago and I have received letters on my vehicles that they have no proof of being insured and I have 30 days to provide proof of insurance. The very day I get the letter my insurance provides them with all the information. 30 days later I get another letter stating since I did not provide the information they were purchasing insurance on the vehicle. After 45 minutes on the phone they decide the make and model of my vehicle is incorrect, despite being correct on the paperwork they send me and demand I give them a photo of my registration to verify the VIN and year. I told them that they are holding the title and they can get the information from there and the person says "thats not possible, we need the registration. Its too bad that they undid 40 years of customer loyalty in less than months of ownership. read more

This was the first bank we went and opened an account at when Judy first moved here from Florida. 13 years later we still have our account with CU1. We've had the savings account ever since. It's where we have all our PFD's deposited every year. I like the fact they donate time and money to local causes. The tellers are always friendly. I keep cash on hand here as my emergency backup. If an unexpected expense comes up I go grab some moolah out of savings. read more

The saga continues,,,, yesterday I got a call from this credit union over the cpi insurance issue again, now my acct is showing more than 30 days past due, even though I make the payments religiously. So to my surprise, I opened my app this morning to pay my payments ( I have three loans with them), and you wouldn't believe it but they put a freeze on my acct(s) and now I cannot make a payment on any loan! How dumb can they be? I can make a payment by card but only if I pay nearly 5 dollars as a "convenience" fee. Never again will I bank with these crooks. read more

Been banking with you for 10 years now , in those 10 years my wife and i have tried getting a credit card & car loan but you guys never approve us , we both have direct deposit for our paychecks you know we can afford it, have made mistakes when we were young and dont have the best credit but u guys suck, you should give your memebers a chance knowing we can afford to pay you back. Tl;dr do not use Credit Union 1 if you move out of Alaska. I had a favorable opinion of Credit Union 1 for the first few years I banked with them. Low interest rates for credit cards and loans, easy to use app and online banking system, generally good customer service. And then I moved out of state and it all went to hell. First of all, they closed my checking account with no warning or reason given. I know it isn't against the law for banks to do this, unfortunately, but you'd think they'd at least have the courtesy to let you know your account may be closed and why so you can do something about it. Secondly, my credit card just stopped working one day without reason. It wasn't expired and it wasn't near the limit, so there's no reason it shouldn't have worked. This was particularly embarrassing as my card was declined at a Taco Bell drive-thru at some ungodly hour. Not the worst thing the employees there have dealt with, I'm sure, but I digress. Thirdly, a customer service representative sent me an email one day asking me to call/email him because he was "unsuccessful in locating me telephonically" (actual words used, who talks like that?). I replied to the email saying my phone number had changed since I moved out of state. I also mentioned I tried updating my phone number online but the system wasn't saving my information. I assumed he was contacting me about a bill payment that had not yet been received since it was coming from an external account. You know, since they shut down my checking account and all. He never replied. Not so much as a "thank you". So much for the #CU1LUV (what a cringey hashtag). And lastly, they send me mail every couple of months trying to get me to buy life insurance by saying they paid for the first $1,500 or whatever. No other bank I've had accounts with has done this. I'm an unmarried women with no children, so unless I can list my dog as a beneficiary, there's zero reason for me to pay for life insurance right now. It's particularly annoying because they label the mail like it's something urgent ("open and return within 14 days" or something like that). Their website says you don't need to close your CU1 accounts if you move out of state, but that's what I'll be doing. I get far better customer service from my new local credit union and USAA. If you're in Alaska, you have other (probably better) options for credit unions. read more

They want too much information including verifying your identity and proof of residential address before opening up an account. Rather settle for conventional banks instead. read more

Let me start by saying I have mixed feelings about Credit Union 1. I have had several types of accounts with them throughout the years. Depending on the employee (this goes for any branch), transactions may be smooth or they may be a living hell. For a couple of years I had difficulty calling in to make payments on a loan (or even paying in person) because my original account had either my name or DOB (to be honest I still don't really understand what their problem was) incorrect, so instead of correcting it, some foolish employee simply created another account (without my knowledge) that wasn't actually connected to my loan. That was very frustrating, and for awhile, I had decided that Credit Union 1 was incompetent. With that said, the additional account has been removed and I've learned my member number, so whatever. Because I still have a couple of accounts with Credit Union 1, Trevor from the call center on Abbott was able to get another new account opened for me via phone! I'm all about being fast and efficient, and Trevor not only answered all of my annoying questions from the get-go, he had a sense of urgency about the way he handled my business. I am getting ready to go on a trip, am very pressed for time, and he saved me at least an hour. Trevor is a keeper, Credit Union 1! Also to be noted - Credit Union 1 offers Skip-A-Pay once a year, so if you're on a budget around the holidays or before a vacation, you can sign up to skip your loan payment that month. read more

For the most part CU1 is generally pretty solid. It is clear that providing friendly customer service is part of the company's ethos, this has been hammered into the tellers heads as every time I interact with them they make the smallest of smallest friendly small talk, which is kinda of annoying because it is patently insincere, but "too friendly" is hardly something to complain about. BUT They're online banking is the worst. The ability to log in to my account is frequently unavailable. When I attempt to login I have to answer a myriad of questions, and yeah its my fault for not remembering the answers, but sometimes I spell 1 word wrong and i'll have to start the whole process over again, which has lead me to being locked out of my account. When I do successfully login it takes forever, so long that it will often time-out and I'll have to do it again. All in all the on-line banking CU1 provides is maddening. My head regularly meets the keyboard out of frustration. I've lost time and $$$ because of my inability to login :( read more

Nice people work in the local Ketchikan branch, but their online banking is a deal breaker. I have never had such an impossible time logging into any account. They have so much security that I now remember why I paid my last car loan off 18 months early and left. Just got a great rate but I will pay it off pronto and probably never look back. read more

Banking with them for over 10 years and moved. Updated my address with them. I checked my statement and found a RETURNED MAIL FEE of $5. They sent my statement to my old address and it was returned so they charged me $5 for their error. Talk about junk fees. I am switching banks later today. read more

I had all the necessary document ready to make a transaction of car ownership on behalf of my friend. They were extremely slow and unproductive and had the new buyer of my friend's car waited for more than an hour. All the proper paper work was presented according to the stipulation just exactly what CU1 wanted. We went upstairs to the title department and waited for 30 mins and then got sent downstairs to the teller and waited for another 30 mins. What a fiasco that was! What a bunch of thugs with ulterior motives! Every time I asked what the remaining balance of the loan was, I was quoted differently. It's obvious that CU1 does not want us to pay the whole thing free and clear. They would much rather see my friend default on the loan and then they could detain the vehicle and sell it separately, so that way they could make a killing on my friend's money for what he had been paying and then still make a profit by repossessing that vehicle. I know I am making a very extreme and accusatory statement. But what other ways can one explain why these people had us waited for so long when we already had all the PROPER documents and money on hand for doing the transaction PROPERLY? We were just fortunate that the new buyer did not loose his patience and decided to walk out on us in the process of getting the title for this vehicle. For the sake of protecting my friend's privacy, I am not going to be too specific about this incident. So customers beware when doing business with CU1. There are advantages and disadvantages dealing with a small financial firm. The disadvantages would be having a small financial firm like CU1 being so arbitrary when it comes to dealing with its customers. read more

Credit Union 1 has placed a wrongful Credit Judgement against our current house and we discovered this when we sold our first house back in 2017. I met with one of the VP's and questioned how they could place a judgement on someone's real estate property without verification of the person. They apologized and stated they would remove the judgement prior to closing on the house. At that time, I informed them of our other property and gave them the address to make sure it does not happen again; they a sure me this was a one time mistake. We are selling out current house and we have a title report completed and low and behold, they have the same judgement against our current property. How can a lending/financial institution be permitted to get away with attaching judgements against people property's without verification. Some body should be brought up on charges because this is not a simple mistake and it is defamation of a persons character. I would give this financial institution a dime or two cents; if they could do this to any person with a similar name with out verification, then there should be consequences. read more

Despite seeing as many as seven different people behind the teller line there nobody to assist the lone person working with the customers with questions. Nobody in line for tellers. Mine was a relatively simple issue but had to wait 45 minutes. read more

We were looking to get a home equity line of credit to consolidate our car loans and credit card debt. CU1 gave us almost twice as much credit at only 5% interest. We switched our checking account their as well- only $100 minimum balance and checking is free. The fact that this is a locally-owned institution is a big bonus! read more

Every cu1 is constantly slow. Calling them takes a minimum of 30 minutes, and when I go to any drive through I'm completely ignored for a good 5-10 minutes. Their customer service is horrible. read more

I hate this company and those are strong words. They will take your money and say it is cause of fee's. How do I owe fee's when I give you my money. They say Policy......WHAT? I can understand that if they show me WHY. I can not stand a company where they have NO reason for what they do. At least explain why???? The are all about ripping you off and I am not the only one. I have family and customer that say the same thing. They made me feel Like I was doing something wrong. If I did I will own that. I run a business and NEVER have I seen the business practices that credit union 1 has done to people that trust them as part of our community. I tried to speak to the branch manager in Eagle River, he call me names and told me I was wrong and to leave........WHAT....you have my money and I have to leave????? Please let me tell you that this company, no matter which branch you visit does not have you business or interest at heart. I can go to McDonalds and get better service than this. WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE - I currently have an auto loan with Credit Union One. I called due to an error on this loan. Insurance was purchased on my behalf even when we had it fully insured. I spoke with Lynn (who stated she was the manager at the Abbott location & the head of that department) she had her own agenda, was ill informed when any question was posed to her, and kept repeatedly interrupting me. She continued to be argumentative, even calling (basically to harass) me the next day with no credible information. I cannot believe Credit Union One employs someone of this nature. Lynn's calls need to be recorded to illustrate her unprofessional manner. read more
