It was almost like going in a museum of local art. I had a chance to spend some time talking to the owner while there and it was inspired by her late sister who was a gifted artist. She had one piece of art left from her sister on display in the store. The owner is a former occupational therapist who decided to commit to pursuing a dream that will include art lessons and the art of cooking later this year. Less than a year old, this is a gem of a local owned business you must stop in and see if in town.

And you can even dine in the bigger room after you ordered your food from the lazy lady. There are a lot of great artists featured here with all of their art for sale. She began working with it more seriously when she turned 60 and was able to audit classes at ETSU sans tuition. During her time at ETSU, Nancy developed her own signature style, combining decorative and functional elements by incorporating slabs and various bisqued molds into her work. Spending time pursuing her passion sparked a desire to one day open her own community-centered arts studio. Opening in May 2022, this unique gallery space has hosted a series of monthly exhibits, featuring artists from the TRI, over the past two years. The fourteen studios that comprise Atelier 133 provide work spaces for 14 dedicated artists, working in various media. Nancy's daughter Maren owns a bakery and café, Lazy Lady Bakery, that's housed in the same building. With their new joint venture, they seek to provide a great resource for local artists who often feel as if they need to move to bigger cities, in pursuit of their passion for the arts. Furthermore, Maren states that folks after travel to Asheville or Atlanta to purchase art unaware that talented artists reside here in Northeast Tennessee. This new gallery, featuring a distinct Ashevillian vibe, offers a space for local artists to pursue their respective creative muse, while also being recognized.
