The booking process was easy and easy to reschedule, along with the appointment form. Of course, I had my doubts since it was my 1st haircut at Manes by Mik. But I had a good feeling since sensory friendly was the main focus. Mik greeted me first and took care of the cutting, and later Megan helped with the washing/drying process. I also got to learn about what products and techniques they do during the haircut, and how to blow dry my hair at home. I had a lovely conversation with the two about various topics: kpop and kdramas, etc. Overall the vibe was friendly and welcoming. The two were always asking if it was okay to do certain things (Is the water temp okay?, Let me know if the heat is too hot), and made sure that you love your haircut (Is it too short?, Do you like the length?). None of the workers spoke English, which meant the translation was poor from the very start. Because of that, they basically did not do at all what I asked for. I explicitly requested to take off 4 inches, but they chopped off 7 inches instead. For reference, my hair was down to my waist almost and straight across so I was looking forward to getting some nice layering and a decent trim. (I attached my reference photo vs what I actually got). My hair that I took so long to grow out is now super short. To make matters worse, the whole styling process felt very aggressive and frustrating. I honestly felt like I was being thrown around in the chair and manhandled. They repeatedly poked me in the face with their fingers when moving around my hair and the comb kept getting very close to my eyes... When I finally saw the results, the layering was so uneven it was shocking. I wish I had a better picture, but when I got home I was so saddened by the haircut that I cried out of despair and started aggressively cutting it myself just trying to fix it. I also still can't get over that I basically have less than half of the hair I started with left. Absolutely do not recommend, terrible experience.

I noticed I was having white bulbs after box braids and she told me that this was normal. Embarrassingly, it took me 2+ years to realize that her technique was pulling my hair out. I have thinning ALL OVER. I left my hair alone for about 4 months and then researched some stylists and came across My at Just Vanity Salon. I booked a wash, blow dry, and two feed in braids. I arrived and her colleague, Dominique, was there with a client doing what I believe is called K-tips and she was so kind and just told me to have a seat until My came in. My arrived and greeted me in a kind manner. She immediately washed my hair, blew dried it, and went in to braid. When I tell you I was SHOCKED that I wasn't in pain and she wasn't pulling my hair out during braiding. I didn't know this was possible because my old stylist told me the pain, and her pulling my hair out until the white bulbs appeared was "normal hair shedding". My also took the time to give me some tips as well once I let her know I was open to any advice because I am not the best at taking care of my own hair. The braids looked great at the end and My was STILL able to make it look cute in spite of my thinning edges and hair in general. Overall, this was an amazing salon experience and I cannot wait to see her again. If you are unsure about booking with either of them, please take this review as a sign that you should JUST DO IT!
