Then she sent over a chop-shop hack who started washing my hair and told me she has ten minutes for me. I knew things were getting worse by the minute. The last time she took forever to cut my hair because she was complaining endlessly that someone gave her a bad review. This is the kind of person who pretends to be accountable and then is annoyed you're reasonably frustrated. Eventually she showed up with her hothead husband who acted like a thuggish corrupt cop and made things even worse. The only appropriate response would have been to be quiet and reserved. Finally, when I said i should have been notified more than 15 minutes before an appointment that she was 45 minutes away she started SCREAMING SHUT UP. I told her that was crossing a line and then she actually lied and said I had told others the same thing as her husband started gesticulating ghoulishly gesticulating and pointing at me. At this point at 20 degrees outside i left with my hair dripping wet and noticed her husband had parked illegally in a handicapped spot by the door. I guess when she was complaining about her other customer reviews I should have seen clearly how unstable and dangerous she really is. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS.

So I made an appointment at Hair We Are, liking the name and having seen it many times on my way to the Price Chopper down the road. Diana did my hair and I'm still kind of astonished by how well she matched the color, seemingly without really even looking at it first. It looks fabulous, all glossy and golden and natural, and the trim she gave me was subtle but nicely layered and sufficiently sophisticated. Heidi did my eyebrows and also did a great job, and I'm thrilled to say that she never double-dipped the wax (as is lamentably common in even upscale NYC salons, gross and potentially dangerous as that is). The prices at this place are very reasonable, almost scarily so, and I suspect that I'll be going back a lot. It's not a fancy salon at all--it has a very down-home feel to it and the furnishings are a little worn. But the space is cute and there are tons of magazines to read and complimentary drinks while you wait. The service is really friendly and pretty fast, the prices are amazing, and the results speak for themselves. What a great find.
