My olde Grand Marquis started slipping gears, I checked for DTCs and none were found. Transmission fluid was clean, so I immediately assumed mechanical transmission damage. My 2012 Chevy Silverado 3500 Diesel Duramax 6.6 HD, 4-Wheel drive, went into check engine warning light mode. Never a good thing! The warning messages displayed included 1. Service Stabilitrak 2. Service Traction Control 3. Park Assist Off. The truck went into drive safety mode which means lower MPH to prevent any further possible damage to the warning light mechanical issue. After getting home safely, I plugged in my OBD II (On Board Diagnostics) code reader to the OBD II unit on the truck. I did not get a message telling me what the issue was. This was unusual since I always get the code identifying the mevhanical problem. I took my truck into the local Chevy dealership service center as I have always taken my vehicle there since it was purchased at this dealership brand new. Long story on this, I was told by the service advisor that the Allison transmission was the issue and had to be replaced with a new one. Needless to say a very costly issue in the $12,000 plus bend over repair cost. After some agonizing thought and puzzlement I decided to get on Yelp and make some calls to pursue a second opinion. Long story on this was finding CRC Transmissions and their positive Yelp reviews. I called and spoke with Todd likely close to the day's closing time. Todd was gracious enough to offer some takes and opinion on the apparent and possible issue/s. The next day I received a call from his wife Lori for an update on my matter. This discussion with her of the likely mechanical issues and repairs, along with her genuine knowledge and expertise sealed the deal for me to tow my truck from the Chevy dealership to their shop for their look and second opinion. From my initial phone contacts to tow drop off of my truck to being kept in the progress loop was just amazing! In this day in age it's not that often to find business folks who are honest, genuine and sincere. This business people is not 5 star but rather 10 star. Todd and his mechanics almost immediately determined that the problem was not the transmission. The issue was identified as the Transmission Control Module (transmission computer unit) and not the Allison transmission (reputable work horse of tranny's). All I can say is wow, wow, wow! I can't say enough about Todd, his mechanics and his special wife Lori at CRC Transmissions. I felt so comfortable and confident that I also agreed to additional preventive mechanical work. My 2014 Honda had transmission trouble (a month or so ago) and my local mechanic who I trust was already overloaded with work. He recommended CRC Transmission because he trusts them. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did they fix the problem, but, they didn't have to replace/rebuild the whole unit. It turned out to be a fitting that caused the fluid to leak to a level that the car was not drivable They could have told me the transmission was shot and needed to be replaced, but ,they didn't! Plenty of horror stories on the internet with regards to reliability. So, I started researching aftermarket parts for improving its durability and longevity. Ended up ordering a collection of parts: Sonnax Valve body, deep transmission fluid pan, line pressure signal booster, thermostat bypass, etc -- to address the weak points. Brought Tod a messed up 4L80 transmission I bought off of Craigslist. He tore it all apart, rebuilt the whole thing, and made it better then new. He finished the full rebuild in a timely manner, the price was reasonable and it was obvious he was an expert and knew what he was doing. I dropped the oil pan down after the first 1,000 miles of driving to see how it was holding up after the rebuild and the oil was clean and the magnet empty. This thing has been performing flawlessly and I know I won't ever need to worry about this transmission. I threw a new filter in and filled it up with new oil. 10 out of 10 would recommend and I will be back for other stuff. read more

I picked CRC on a whim because it was close by and had good reviews and I'm SO grateful I did! I had an awful sound coming from my car when I would accelerate and thought for sure it was related to the transmission. My car is 20 years old with 197K miles on it so I was bracing myself for the worst- turned out to be something totally unrelated and super small to fix! But what stood out to me about my experience is that it was clear I knew very little about the situation and a dishonest mechanic could have easily taken advantage of that, overcharging me in general or charging me extra for things I didn't really need. Lori and Todd were AWESOME!!! I called them a 4:45 PM on Friday, because our 2003 Toyota 4-Runner was leaving oil spots on the concrete driveway. After checking with our mechanic we found the leak was at the transfer case. I called and spoke with Lori and she scheduled me to bring it in on the following Monday and was able to get it in to checked the transmission and four wheel drive transfer case. Lori provided an estimate for the removing the transfer case, checked the transmission and provided a quote to repair. They were friendly and provide an estimate for the work to be completed. All said and done, the cost was affordable. We refer and use them in the future as well. read more

Car has a 135K on it, manual transmission. Wasn't sure if it was the transmission, clutch or driveshaft that's noisy like a bad bearing. He test drove the car and said that it wasn't the trans. I really want to thank Laurie and Todd for an awesome experience! I own a GMC 2018 1500 Sierra Truck which I take great care of and when my transmission suddenly and aggressively started slipping in almost all gears, I immediately thought it would be better to take it to a GMC dealer and use my extended warranty to replace the transmission! My truck was at the dealer for over a weak just to get a diagnosis and then they told me that they are completely backed up with trucks just like mine which are all having transmission failures! The dealer told me that there is a national back order and it would be over 5 weeks before I would get my truck back! I couldn't believe it! Thank god for the extended warranty I purchased but to get a rental car for over 5 weeks would have cost me around $2200 bucks! I decided to go another route and had 2 legitimate referrals for C R C Transmissions in Thousand Oaks! After talking to Laurie and Todd at C R C and explaining my frustrations about my predicament with the GMC dealer being backed up, they assured me that they would get the insurance appraiser over to their shop ASAP and also use their connections to get a new transmission to the shop shortly after the insurance appraiser signed off for a new transmission! C R C called me after a little over one week letting me know my truck would be ready for pick up in 2 days! Hello All, I got a really solid rec' from someone else to go to Craig, so I did. My van (1999 GMC Safari) has been throwing a tranny code. I couldn't be more pleased with Todd the owner. This was my first time here but came as a highly recommended transmission shop from people I trust. I have an '89 K5 Blazer with a tired 700R4 trans. Todd asked me many detailed questions to see what I was planning to use the Blazer for because this would affect the type of converter as well as shift kit that was installed. While the trans was out I also had the transfer case rebuilt. Todd called during the removal of the trans to let me know that the fly wheel was bad as well as the starter going out. I had him replace these as it was the perfect time to do it. He also noticed the rear main seal on the motor was leaking so he replaced that as well! 100% incompetence. Diagnostic code indicates selenoid problem in transmission. I walk in & tell Craig. Craig calls over the technician who says he could clean out metal shavings or if necessary, replace selenoid. $400 .... Great! I leave the car. 2 WEEKs later I receive a call: "Call us back." I call back. "Uh, I don't know why we called you." I get another call 3 hours later: "Call us back." I call back. The guy says, "Why is your car here?" UnBELIEVABLE. I gave them the code & after 2 WEEKs they never took 30 seconds to diagnose my car with a $40 diagnostic plug-in tool. read more
