I can't say enough good things about it but most importantly how is this free?! I feel like they could charge $5 admission & I'd still be cool with it but I'll take free all day! My son has never seen a farm & growing up in San Jose my mother often took my brother & I to a place called Prusch Farm. Very similar to this museum so I was delighted to be able to find something I could take my son to so that I could try to give him the kind of cool childhood memories I treasure. This was even better because of the working Blacksmith! My son was in awe by the whole thing but my husband & I have never seen a blacksmith in action either. The variety of animals plus the costumed volunteers & walkable buildings are such a great way to entertain a toddler. We got there at opening & were able to get everything done by the time it was getting more crowded around 11AM. I would definitely come back as we missed seeing the small indoor museum near check in. Loved this 10x more then the Children's Museum!

The inside of the museum was very interesting with an art exhibit, a special exhibit which currently focused on Kate Farretti and the Littleton history area which included a kids zone. The Kate Farretti exhibit depicted the life of a famous hat maker originally from Italy, she settled in Denver with her husband and made hats for Denver's elite including Molly Brown. Kate was also mother to the first triplets to be born in Denver. You can spend a couple hours here and make a day of it. I loved the living history farm portion which included 1860's and 1890's farms and contained 5 historical buildings as well as outhouses and a root cellar. It is an acutal working farm with 1800lb cows, turkeys, chickens, sheep, donkeys and a blacksmith! The gardens throughout were beautiful, we got to pick some pumpkins and see what would have been grown in this historical time period. Both livestock and gardens were accurately portrayed for the time period. You can only bring water in so don't try to do a picnic onsite. You are able to bring strollers and wagons and I would recommend doing so, there is a lot of land to be covered which requires a lot of walking.

There were specific areas for the highland games, medieval Scottish lifestyle, lots of girls with bouncy curls and rigid upper bodies dancing, Scottish food, dogs, sheep herding, find your clan, and stuff you don't need to buy tents. Most venues were cash only, they did have 2 ATM machines for those unprepared (including us!). Nessie greets you as you walk in to the park. The midday ceremonies included a parade of dogs (adorable), bands, and clans, which were colorful, loud, and fun. The food was the most disappointing. There's only one tent with subpar options for ~$8-10. The best part of the festival are the whiskey tastings! We got there relatively early and signed up for Ardbeg. Once inside the tent, we were given little crackers, place mats with whiskey, and a walk through. We even got whiskey glasses for souvenirs! I especially loved being surrounded by thick heavy Scottish accents whichever way I turned. I'll be back again next year! Please work on your food options.

As far as Highland Games go, this is a pretty good event. It's well organized, there are a lot of options as far as what to see and do, and it's affordable. Last year they had a parade of classic European cars that was just incredible. And the dancing! You have to go and check out the dancing. I grew up…read morecalling it "airplane park" and the iconic airplane is still there - but now its so much more than a playground. We used to take our daughters there so it was epic for us to experience it with the next generation. After buying tokens ($3/person for each activity) we started at the farm area. There's a hallway with windows to look in at various animals, including the biggest rabbit I've ever seen irl. Then we entered the fenced in area with chickens, goats, a cow, pigs, a duck pond, and a pair of alpacas. When the girls were done playing with the animals we headed for the washing station at the exit. I love that they have that! Next we rode the train. Its about a 10 minute ride around the park (with a tunnel) and the kids really enjoyed that. There are basic restroom facilities with running water and we saw a vendor with a popsicle cart. Theres a large pavillion with picnic tables that can be reserved through the Englewood parks dept. There are also lots of picnic tables randomly placed and lots of shade trees. The girls played on both playgrounds and it was time for lunch. We had our picnic at a table under a tree and watched people playing in the stream. Then we put on our water shoes and walked into the stream. It's very shallow in spots and was up past my knees in others. There are crawdads in the deeper areas and some places are pretty rocky but a lot of people were barefoot. As the outdoor temp was rising past 95 degrees we opted to head for some air conditioning. It was a great time and will be one of our best memories.
