Nice quaint place to enjoy coffee/frappe and a cookie. They have a soup of the day as well as delicious sandwiches of your choice.

The food was delicious and surprising, in that an item which might sound ordinary was absolutely and delightfully not. The serving sizes were so generous as to require either a large appetite or a desire to leave with seconds. The decor is bright, colorful, quirky-fun, and cheerful. I cannot recommend The Root Cafe highly enough.

The…read morerestaurant is committed to sourcing its ingredients locally and is known to be a 'farm to table' restaurant. Traveling through a Little Rock for work, my group decided to grab breakfast before flying out. We came in due to the raving reviews from a multitude of online sources and they did not disappoint. I ordered the Root Benny and the blueberry muffin based on the host's recommendation. First cut into my poached egg and I already knew it was the start of a culinary journey. Absolute flavor and texture perfection. The seasonal greens (steamed kale?) paired so well with the greens and the crostini was the perfect vehicle for yolk dipping. The blueberry muffin was small but delicious--exactly what you should expect from a muffin. I wish I would've remembered to order the cookies to go. I suppose I'll have to come back.

No wait to order. No wait for food. My order came out in about ten minutes. Speed was fine. Price was not. $31.94 for a two meat combo with burnt ends feels high, especially for the quality served. My tray arrived incomplete. Pulled pork was missing. Staff fixed the issue shortly after, so credit there. Potato salad tasted fine. Heavy ranch flavor. Potatoes were cooked well with some bite left. Decent side. Nothing memorable. Mac and cheese was unacceptable. Tasted like frozen grocery store mac and cheese. No seasoning. No depth. No reason for this to be on the menu. Pulled chicken had solid seasoning but arrived dry and barely warm. Sauce or a large drink felt required. Pulled pork arrived cold and lacked flavor. No smoke presence. No richness, and no moisture whatsoever. Burnt ends looked promising but failed on execution. Served cold. Bark was crisp. Some bites were moist. Other bites were dry. Flavor was average. These were brisket chunks, not true burnt ends. No caramelization. No sauce coating. Sauces were the highlight. Every option tasted good. The #1 classic mild stood out. The #3 tangy and spicy was also strong. Overall experience landed average to below average. The walls advertise BBQ championships, but the food did not support the reputation. Serving cold meat is unacceptable. Serving generic mac and cheese is worse. I expected far more from a place carrying this name.

My wife also had a couple of cocktails and a few glasses of wine. There was a lot that we enjoyed. The oysters and scallops were fantastic, and both desserts were excellent. The bread and butter were also very good. My wife thought the wine selection was excellent as well. Unfortunately, there were a few things that kept the experience from being as good as it could have been. The biggest disappointment was the duck breast. The flavor was good, but the fat wasn't rendered properly and the skin wasn't crispy. The result was a chewy, rubbery texture that made the dish difficult to enjoy. My wife's walleye was cooked well, but the blueberry sauce was so strong that it overwhelmed much of the fish's flavor. The cocktails were okay--certainly drinkable, but not a standout. We also found a plastic bread bag tie in my wife's salad. We pointed it out to our waiter, who removed it from the table, but there was no apology, explanation, replacement salad, or any acknowledgment beyond taking it away. Finding a foreign object in your food is unfortunate; having it essentially ignored was disappointing. One other thing we noticed was that the sides felt like an afterthought. Both entrées came with the same carrots and Brussels sprouts. They were fine, but nothing particularly memorable, and serving the exact same sides with very different dishes made the entrées feel less thoughtfully composed. The service was generally good, although somewhat slow. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, but he also didn't seem especially familiar with the menu at times. Overall, this was a mixed experience, especially with a price tag north of $300. The appetizers, desserts, and wine were the highlights of the evening. There were moments where the meal was genuinely excellent, but the issues with both entrées, the uninspired sides, and the lack of response to finding a bread tie in the salad kept it from feeling like the special anniversary dinner we had hoped for.
