After my car was totaled and the other driver's insurance did the bare minimum, I was stuck. AAA Asheville recommended Rickman's, and I'm so thankful they did. The damage to my car was almost as much as I paid for it, and insurance barely lifted a finger. But Jessica and Daniel worked incredibly hard to get the cost way down--at their own expense and time spent--just to help me get back on the road. When I couldn't pay right away, they didn't pressure me. In fact, they offered to cover a large part of the cost themselves! I did pay them, but that offer alone showed me the kind of people they are. This is the most generous, honest, and compassionate business I've ever dealt with. When I got there early, he was immediately attentive and kind. His parents were visiting to meet his sweet puppy. Chris lifted my car, showed me what was going on, let me be super nosy & watch/take photos, let me bother his sweet, shy dog. He said it would take 20 minutes and cost $55. It took 15 minutes and was in fact $55. I am so very pleased! Not gonna lie, I was a little nervous before going there because mechanics can be a little on the anti-queer side of things. Chris was deeply kind, chatty, and welcoming and full made me feel comfortable. We had a good chat, great & quick service, great pricing. Completely fixed the issue in my exhaust system. A very polite man named Chris was there when I arrived and took some info, and then presented me with pricing. $240 to check my check engine light, and then, because I told him I'd just purchased the car, $150 do "do a really in depth check". I declined the in depth, but it left me a bad taste in my mouth. I called another mechanic on the way out who quoted me $189 to check the light. I called Chris back to ask if they'd match that and he immediately replied "no ma'am". No problem. I'll come and grab the car and go elsewhere - I was already feeling like I was going to be overcharged. ETA. I received a call a couple of hours later, stating they would match the cost that the other shop quoted. The owner, Todd, is apparently in today, and Chris had spoken to him about this and he wanted to honor the other quote. Honestly, when I drove up to this shop I was really excited. I grew up country, in the country. This place is country - there are roosters crowing, and a good ol' boy mechanic listening to George Straight. I'm down with that. Upgrading my review to four stars, and will update at the end of the day...fingers are crossed that I found a mechanic I can trust.
