I signed up for the race online, which was fairly easy to complete, and they had an expo at the Hilton hotel 2 days before the race to pick up your BIB. At the expo, they had many vendors selling items as well as free energy drinks. They also handed out the free shirt you got for entering the race, which was really nice, and the quality was great! On race day, which was on a Sunday, the run for the Half Marathon started at 650 am. From all the emails I was receiving, we were told to show up at least 40 minutes or even 1 hour prior to the race due to all the runners being in the location, giving you enough time to find the wave your in. The Half Marathon or 13.1 miles course had a beautiful layout that started by the convention center, bringing you up through the Embarcadero to Harbor Island and through Point Loma. The course was a nice flat course until mile 9, where you are running up Washington Hill, gaining elevation into Hillcrest and throughout Balboa Park finishing in the Gaslamp. When we finished the race, we were giving our medals or bling and were handed a goodie bag with a Monster, crackers, and a protein bar. They were even handing out chocolate milk, water, and bananas. They had photographers on-site taking pictures and a small after party in the park aside from the finish line. This was absolutely my favorite race I have run, and I had a blast doing it. The course was perfect and well organized. They had volunteers handing out water and Gatorade approximately every 2 miles. They had porter pottys all throughout the course, and the crowd was very motivating. I'm looking forward to come-back and doing the exact race next year as well since I had an amazing experience. Thank you to all the volunteers and the organizers who made this race possible.

I was really looking forward to running this particular half marathon for the first time. There was no expo with vendors, just a pickup at the Gaslamp Hilton. What was really special is the volunteers/organizers did a cheer as we were handed our medal so a big thank you to them! Besides the medal, what was picked up was the bib, shirt, and tote bag which included the Friar hat, snacks, and chocolate milk. The tech shirt was pretty unique. In my collection, it's the first to be patterned in camo style. I'm signed up for the challenge which consists of completing the Mammoth Half Marathon in June, thus receiving an extra medal. Crossing my fingers that event is allowed to take place. I crave the crisp mountain fresh air.

Decided to sign up for this race vs. the SGK Race for the Cure for 2011. I had done the SGK for…read moreseveral years and needed a change. I have heard of the IG from several friends so wanted to check out the girl power. Traffic was crazy exiting off the 5 freeway and Via de la Valle to get to the Del Mar Fairgrounds. However, parking was a breeze. Parking was free and tons of spaces. There was a 5k and 10k, and this time I opted for a 5k since I had just done the LA RnR Half a week prior and I was going to run the Silver Strand Half the following weekend. The 10k started about 15 mins before the 5k. If you're wanting a PR, you're in the wrong race. There are no corrals, and everyone starts at the same time. Also consider there are a lot of mother/daughter teams and lots of kids and strollers. Perhaps I should have started right at the front since we were in the middle of the pack and got stuck behind some walkers and some pretty slow pacers. I didn't care so much for the route. The first mile was just too crowded and there were too many people you were running into. It wasn't until mile 2 was when you're on the open road and you were able to spread out. Mile 2 was uphill, which sucked. Mile 3 was downhill and you finish back at the fairgrounds track. The race was an experience. It's a good way to run/walk with your mom/daughter or to empower your girl spirit. Hey ! Hey ! Hey ! It's another one !…read more The fifth annual 'Athleta Iron Girl' was at the Del Mar Fairgrounds this year ! The course started and finished on the fairgrounds. It was one of the easier runs for me since it was mostly a flat course with a slight incline towards the end. Great for newbies and experienced runners. I only participated in the 5K since I'm slowly incorporating short runs in between my training for my next BIG race in January: Disney's Tinkerbell WOOOT !!! I enjoyed seeing the mother/daughter teams and even little girls running while they held hands with their mamas. Uber cute ! Although, I think they should have had a separate wave for the young daughters and mama teams just to avoid any mishaps or collisions. Perks: post-race breakfast goodie bag, giveaways, performance tech t-shirts (so femme), professional timing, personalized race bibs, and love the custom finisher medal ! Proceeds go towards the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to help find a cure for all children with cancer. WIN ! Not so perky: When a little girl can run just as fast as me towards the finish line. Yup yup. Little rugrat was as tall as my knee. haha. She almost bruised my ego by nearly beating me. ooh wee it was close ! (note: still recovering from a knee injury)...not that I'm making excuses or anything. Overall, it was a fairly organized event and their website has more than enough information for participants. Great job Iron Girl ! I would LOVE to make this an annual run and hopefully get my mom involved. We both can go all out with matchy-matchy pink outfits to support breast cancer awareness and hold hands while we sing along and run ! OH JOY !

2.5 stars, it is!…read more This review is long overdue since it happened on Sept 17th but wanted to be sure that I eventually got around to writing one. While i'm not an elite triathlete, I've done many events since I've started in 2009. This was the first time that I actually did this local event. My observations with this race: PROS: --If you live in San Diego, course is in our back yard. No need to ship your bike and carry all your tri gear. For those who have ever done this, you know this is a huge plus. --Calm swim in the bay = fast swim times. --This year, the medal was pretty nice as were the two shirts that they gave out in your goodie bag. One was a t-shirt and the other a technical shirt. Both i've used several times which is unusual for race shirts. --Flat run course --Coach Gurujan was the Head Referree for the event so you know USAT rules were strictly enforced. Love it! --Beer garden was great but they ran out of a lot of things early on. CONS: --Expo is really small which I pretty much expected. Pretty much just consisted of their store. --Staff during check in/expo seemed unorganized and were not very friendly. If you had questions regarding the race, they were not very helpful or accommodating. I spoke to an employee (Rachel???) and she was border line rude and was talking crap about other participants in my presence. Not too professional. --Swim start was a joke! They were using a bullhorn and having staff run around yelling for people to get to the swim start. Ever heard of sound system and speakers...just saying. Lots of people missed their waves because of this. --Course cut off times seemed pretty loose. I had a few friends in the last few waves with less than 40 minute swim only to get cut off on their second loop on the bike course. Much sooner than what was communicated to us in the race details. Pretty disappointing since this was their first triathlon. They aren't slow on the bike either. Needless to say, not first time triathlon friendly. This is a nice local event in San Diego that I'd love to support but I'm just not a fan this race and in my experience with Moment, I'm just not impressed with their staff. There are a lot of local races that I'd rather participate in; San Diego International, Carlsbad triathlon, Solana Beach, Mission bay, SheRox and many others that run a lot more smoothly. A Stillwater start followed by a challenging bike ride through the submarine base climbing up to the lighthouse and back to liberty station on unexciting bobsled style downhill course. The race concludes with a run along the liberty station park. It's a great event well put together and USAT sanctioned.

Registration was easy as to where you sign up online and pick which race you will be completing In as for the 5K, 10k, or half marathon. I decided to go with the Half marathon to challenge myself and expierence the long run of 13.1 miles. The BIB pick up was at Road runner sports the day before in Kearny Mesa where it was quite organized and easy as where they also handed you your shirt. The race began on a Saturday at 715AM in Mission Bay with a nice upbeat crowd! The views were spectacular and breathtaking running along the bay seeing the water and that San Diego Sun shining down on you. The race started out great for the first 6 miles which was well put together while it was secluded for the runners participating in it but suddenly fell to anyone and everyone on the ground walking and riding bikes and also to people walking dogs. The race then felt as if it was a public race where anyone can join in the park and wasn't blocked just for the participants. It was a great event to attend and the volunteers did a great job handing out water and Gatorade. The shirt and the medals were absolutely beautiful and there were prizes for the top 3 in each age group which was a plus. Other that that I had a nice time at the Resolution run and looking forward to attend next year!

Registration was easy, parking was so-so and the communication up to the race was on point. Thank for the email informing us that Sea World Drive would be closed! I ran the 5k while my friends walked it and two others did the 15k. It was smart to have the 15k start 30 mins before the 5k group. The path they had us on was one of the best runs I've been on. It was a continuous loop around the island which was great for runner to keep going and not having to avoid other runners if there was a turn about. No one was fighting for space or running to avoid trees, objects or incoming runners from the opposite direction. I liked how the 5k finish line and the 15k finish line were in two different locations. This really opened up the space and people didn't crowd around the finish lines. It was also a pretty good distance away from the vendors. The "medal" was unique in where you got to write down your resolution with chalk/pain chalk. (too bad it rubbed off after moving around so much) but it also doubled as a magnet! Def a great run to benchmark the rest of my runs this year.

But I also used to run here on the reg when I lived close by. It just makes it hard to find parking since it's limited in the area. Loved the vibes before & after the race. They had a fun DJ/MC with dance offs & warm ups. Everyone was dressed up too! And a lot of booths giving away free things like hats you can bling out, water bottles, sunglasses. Coolest medal ever! The guy dances! Not a fan of their white t-shirt though. They had nice gold winners medals! I unfortunately didn't know they gave it to top 3 in age categories so didn't even check the booth to collect mine or wait for the awards ceremony. I've never been able to receive a winners medal so I was so sad when I found out I could've gotten one but missed the opportunity. So I tried to contact the event coordinators via e-mail & facebook to see if I could pick it up at their Long Beach race, but no answer! I'm obviously still bitter about this. Otherwise would've been 5 stars and I would've done their LB race..

This was the first year for the Disco Fever 5K to be run in San Diego. I've never run a race in SD…read moreso I'm can't speak to how it compares to other races in the area. But compared to other races I've run myself, this was on the small side. Packet pick up at Road Runner's Sports was easy; the process took me less than 10 minutes. The t-shirt is nice and there were some nice snacks and goodies in our race pack. The race is set at the Embracadero and run along the running path along the harbor. Despite it starting at 730am (first wave) there are still tourists taking a stroll and other non-race runners out so you gotta watch out for them too. I loved the warm up--even if you weren't participating, it was nice to have the music playing and the emcee keeping things fun and light. There was some runner support with volunteers cheering on the racers at a few different points and the water station half way through. I didn't dress for the theme (sorry!) but I did appreciate the different disco costumes I saw. Kudos to the guy who ran in full disco Elvis attire, including wig! And the sparkly disco dresses were fun and flirty. Every finisher got a medal--yeah! and of course special medals to the top finishers. There were bananas, water, gatorade and other snacks afterward--a lot more than what I've seen at other races. Everyone working the race were friendly and supportive. A really fun atmosphere. Glad I was in town to run the race!

I love riding my bike, I love watching the pros ride, but until the last few years I had no…read moreinterest in watching local/regional bike races. All that changed with the Carlsbad Grand Prix. It all comes down to the amazing bike culture we have here with local teams and local sponsors coming together to promote the best of cycling. Unlike 5k's and tri's which we all known more as individual sports. There is an aspect of cycling that is communal which separates it from other races. The fact that we do group rides, compete on strava and learn from other riders make us even more competitive. First off the view is unbeatable (above the flower fields with 100 degree view of the ocean. The crit is flat (basically) and fast with only 1 corner to really worry about. The last corner sees crashes of people positioning themselves. The recent edition was wet and saw wipe outs. It's a closed course blocked by CPD. The sponsors have really grown and provide pace cars, trail moto, on course ref's and officials along with expo. With most of the big races in San Diego, Long Beach, Ontario, Redlands. This and the recent SLR put racing back in NCSD and with such an abundance of talent training locally. This race has sparked my interest to upgrade from a Cat 6 racer. Fun run before Thanksgiving! It was our first time doing the Oceanside Turkey Trot, and the first…read moreafter Covid. It was still packed and lively. We did the 5K just to get some calories burned for our thanksgiving feast. It was nice, flat and you run thru PCH then the beach. The run was fun and close to home and easy to park and get to. There's a finishers medal for the 5K (score!) and at the end there's some apples, bananas and canned fruit. Not to bad! Fun family and friends event.

The sign up is easy and I love that $5 of each sign up fee is donated to the charity of your choice (from their list- which always includes local schools who really benefit)! The process for picking up race day materials is very efficient! Every year they have a new cool shirt and medal design. That's always awesome! The course is easy and amazing! Right on the coast and finishing on the strand. What could be better than running right next to the beautiful ocean! The crowd is always fun and energetic! This is a great way to "Move your feet before you eat" on Thanksgiving!

This was a very well organized and put together event. 5 stars for a really great experience! -850 +/- participants -No traffic -Parking was ample and easy (if you get there an hour early).
