My family and I stood at the "please wait here to be seated" sign for five minutes while wait-staff meandered past ignoring our requests for a table before we migrated to the busier bar. "You guys waiting for a table?" was the bar tender's query, to which I replied in the affirmative. He bustled off to find a restaurant staff member who guided us to a table "I think that's table's reserved but you guys can have it anyway".
Our menus and empty plastic cups arrived at which point we ordered entrees, requested a bottle of water and a few alcoholic beverages. After 10 minutes our entrees arrived. We asked the waiter who delivered the entrees about our beverages and he ensured us that they were on the way. The water arrived 4 minutes later (I had my eye on the watch, chortling at this experience on the inside) followed 6 minutes later by the two glasses of wine. A couple of minutes later a waitress with a towel walked out with her hand around the neck of an open beer bottle. She placed the beer on a dirty table and proceeded to wipe the table down with the towel. After this was done she looked quizzically around and to our table "you waiting on a beer?" "Yes, thank you" and it was placed unceremoniously on the table nowhere in particular.
We ordered food and it arrived. It was alright but nothing to write home about, but was certainly edible. I'm mostly disappointed by the complacency of the staff and their seeming lack of care as to basic F&B customer service. Bring the water out with the menus, bring drinks out before the entrees and all at the same time, pretty simple stuff. I understand that it's the Sunshine Coast so a relaxed atmosphere is typical, but this was a whole extra level of relaxation for the staff, not we the patrons. read more
