While Wilma's got some poor reviews and that's usually enough to deter me, it's in the "Eating Your…read moreWay Across Kentucky" book so I had to check it out anyway. We visited the day before Thanksgiving and Wilma was busy filling pie orders. For $8-$9, you can get a whole home-made pie! You do have to give Wilma 24-hours notice to get one of her pies, but you can't make a pie that cheap!! We stopped in for breakfast and were the only people in the dining room. The restaurant is basically in a house so the "dining room" is a few tables spread around. Ours was right next to the kitchen and it's a regular home kitchen not a restaurant grade outfit. Most of the food is prepared in the basement and sent upstairs via a dumbwaiter. We got the Pork Tenderloin Breakfast Platter. Be sure to ask for the homemade strawberry freezer jam for your biscuit. It was a ton of food and was only $5.75! Wilma's isn't super fancy and but the food is reasonable priced and the place definitely has character so it's worth a stop.

I am here to report: it is actually really good. A lot of their schtick is weird toppings. I had sweet potato and chorizo. Chorizo's not too far off from a normal pizza sausage, but somehow sweet potato actually works. It was nice as its own thing, didn't really blend with tomato sauce but that's fine, and it was also perfectly tender somehow. What I really liked was how crisp it was. The dough was relatively thick and flavorful, but the whole thing had a really good char on it.

Lots of wood picnic style tables. You get in line and order, get a table buzzer and they'll bring the food out to you. You do have to go back in for more beverages. You can order pizza by the slice up to the whole za. They have a large topping list, you can get a slice or two or three with custom toppings. I got 2 slices and it was plenty, super cheesy too. I'd say I have a normal female appetite. Do they have other food? Yes, they serve breakfast, but I paid no attention to anything else. I had tunnel pizza vision goggles on. AND - live music

We ordered pizza for the kids, a burger and fries for mom, and dad got a a pork tenderloin dinner with onion rings. We also ordered bread sticks. The food reminded us of a high end diner. The kids devoured their pizza. The breadsticks were better as leftovers when I added garlic powder to them the next day. But the rest of the meal was great. We were mostly just thrilled with the cleanliness, and attentive and kind staff. The bathrooms were very clean and the women's bathroom actually had a changing table...a rarity and so appreciated by this mom with two kiddos in diapers. One other note: there is another restaurant across the street that looks like a shack. The signage didn't stand out because we almost got back on the highway to find food. The name of the restaurant was missing, as you can see in the photo I took. We almost missed this place. We will be back.

We order our drinks and then wait, and wait. We finally get up to just start eating off the buffet. They had several pizzas sitting out that appeared to be setting out for a little while. But it's pizza so how bad could it be. Well I found out... and it's bad. And by bad, I mean Little Caesar's is better. So as we sit down with our first plate, the power shuts off because the electric company is working on it. So we eat in the dark and silence. The pizza is like warm and taste a little like school cafeteria food. We finish and pay and find out the buffet is $10.59! The buffet wasn't worth 5.99. I hate to be mean but there is just no way I can say that this is a good place. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because our waitress was very nice.
