I visited this long-time Cecil County landmark on its opening day last Friday and I have to say I was really disappointed. It's under new management, owned by a restaurant as I understand it, somewhere else in the county. Ordered a dozen No. 1s. They sure seemed on the small side to me, and many were light. Seasoning was not Old Bay nor JO, but instead something with with nutmeg or other out of place herb. Not happy at all. Have to find somewhere else now. read more

I haven't Yelped in a long time, but this needed to be said. We got a half bushel of #1's on Saturday and they were the best crabs I've had in years. The crabs were all between 6 & 7 inches and were very heavy with the exception of maybe 5 or 6 paper shells. But other than that, I definitely got my monies worth. In years past, I've gotten some smelly crabs from here but they were always ready to replace them. So needless to say, I definitely recommend this establishment for your crab needs. Picked up a dozen #2's and a pound of steamed shrimp. The shrimp were fresh and well seasoned. 2 stars because the crabs were in no way fresh and were overcooked. It was a shame too as they were crazy meaty but it seems as if we got a batch they cooked earlier and pawned off on us hours later. The claw meat was tough and stuck to the shell and the crabs were in no way juicy. Disappointing :( read more

We are Elkton residents that have been a loyal customer of this establishment since they were in business. We purchased a half busshell of crabs on Sunday July 8. Out of the half busshell, we had to through out over a dozen crabs that had been steamed dead,. They weren't just soft they were mushy. My wife contacted the crab shack and spoke with the owner. He was rude and disrespectful to her as she explained what had happened. There are over a dozen crab establishments in the Elkton area. I would recommend dealing with anyone other than the Crab Shack, we will. I gave a one star rating only because I had to to wright this review. read more

I was new to the whole Maryland crab process. I decided to ride along to pick up the crabs that ere going to be the main attraction for a huge July 4th event. As soon as we pulled up, I could smell the Old Bay... Three guys met us at the car and quickly went to grab our bushels of crabs. They laid down a tarp or something in the back of the SUV and loaded in three large wooden containers filled to the top with crabs. When we brought the bushels of crabs to the party, it was game on. The tops of the crates were popped open and I saw the most beautiful display of Old Bay coated crabs...I couldn't snap a photo quick enough before people started pulling them out and tearing them apart. I waited to hear the reactions to the crabs, again, these are picky Maryland crab lovers, so are the crabs from Crab Shack going to cut it? Well, they more than cut it...apparently many other places had small crabs that were a disappointment. So, the crab experts assured me that these were the real deal. So if you are a resident, or going to try Maryland crabs for the first time, I would highly recommend Crab Shack. read more

Looked this place up as I was in the area for dinner, had good reviews. A little out of the way, but not hard to find. Friendly and quick staff, service was great. Bought a 1/2 bushel of #1's this week and my son bought same 2 weeks ago. Superb! They were the best crabs I have had in a long while (and we try crabs from all over!) Just called the Crab Shack a few minutes ago (1:00pm Friday 7/13/18) to see what crabs are available..#1 crabs $38 dozen...from Tilghman Island..However, was told the crabs "are light"...Very handy information ..buyer beware..I'd rather go elsewhere and buy #2's..But I did appreciate the honesty. read more

Great fresh seafood! I especially enjoy the sea scallops and crab cakes which are so much better than any seafood you can get at Costco or any supermarket. They make an easy week night meal or easy entertainment option. read more

I have to say that we have been buying , eating and talking about crabs for over 55 years . This place is now my crab house of choice. They are fair priced , great quality and I must say that were damn good this weekend. Seasoning is salt based , tasty and lots of it. All party members loved them . They tended to give me the larger ones than we paid for. I will be with this outfit from now on. Order them early they don't seem to last long. No lite ones in the 2 bushels and we picked several pounds for the freezer from 2 dozen crabs. Great staff and fast service . read more

Our family loves the Crab Shack.... Our favorite are the shrimp. Last spring and summer the shrimp were AWESOME! This year the shrimp are TERRIBLE! The shells will not peel off. It's like the shell is stuck on them. Plus they taste old and fishy! I hope they fix this. I could really go for those sweet shrimp from last year. I will try them one more time. read more

Don't let the outside of the building turn you off: these are the best crabs in the area! The price fluctuates and they sell out fast so it is a good idea to call and order them in advance. An old style, true crab shack. They get their crabs local and have commercial steamers and they do run out often. They seem to have more than their share of large parties and corporate events so indicuals sometimes seem to get the "leftovers" when they are preparing for such an event. Understandable, but watch out. Because they are getting local crabs, there is variation in the quality. Most people only want to know size. I don't care about size, give me a full crab with a hard shell and lots of yellow mustard, regardless of size! Sometimes crab shack will sell me a bushel of trash crabs....all recently sloughed and light or paper shelled. They can't control the moon cycle and impact on crabs, but they could communicate quality better to those customers who ask. I ask, and I find it hard to get a straight answer. Sometimes one of the girls will give me a cryptic "I wouldn't buy crabs this weekend". Which I appreciate. Also, their steamer is large and they steam their crabs all at once in the bushel. If you come to pick them up much after they were steamed, they put them back in the steamer to heat up! Ouch... Makes for watery crabs sometimes...not considered a best practice. But, when you get the good ones, how wonderful are true, sweet,fat Maryland crabs! read more
