    Headed to the Crab Island!!
    Jason P.

This is an absolute Destin experience you do not want to miss. We made our reservations for our crab island excursion about 3.5 weeks ago and we were glad we did because bookings were filling quickly at the start of the summer vacation season. Everything was quite easy to reserve online and the confirmation process was as clean as a whistle. About a week before our excursion, we received a text message and email stating that our initial reserved time of 2-5pm pushed back to 3-6pm. This was not a problem and actually was a better time of day in my opinion. The email confirmation had links to complete the waivers online, which was a tremendous convenience. The waiver confirmations come with a nice email receipt to keep things very organized. As I'm rather OCD with having my excursion details easily at hand, this was great. On the day of the excursion, text message confirmation was received and provided better details on the parking situation and great landmarks to help with finding the meeting place. While they offer limited parking free of charge, the meet up location is practically across the street from Marley Public Parking lot. We chose to park there despite being the last excursion of the day. If you're going earlier in the day and think you might want to engage in anything after the excursion, it would be easier to use the Marler lot. It was only $5 for the whole day. Just know if you do, you have to pay via app and this can take a little time to download and set up if you're in a pinch time wise. Give yourself ample time to arrive because the traffic can be very heavy at various times of the day (aka ALL DAY). A quick walk from the Marler lot got us to the Crab Island Info check in. The girls at the desk were very savvy in checking in my family and found our completed waivers right away. The office doubled as a spacious shop offering some beach clothing, floaties, snorkel gear, and some water toys. They also offer a limited selection of alcoholic beverages, juice boxes, sodas, and YooHoo! Chocolate drinks to take along. There were restrooms for use while you waited to head to the boat and they were clean and stocked with some nice smelling hand soap. We were escorted from the staging area down the hill towards the dock right on time and were greeted by an excellent captain and first mate. I didn't think to ask their names but they really rolled out the red carpet for everyone on board. The boat was equipped with extra floaties and they kindly inflated any you may have brought with. There was a nice water mat at the stern of the boat upon arrival to crab island. The location itself is somewhat surreal... just a bunch of people having a bang up time in thigh high, crystal clear water. My wife and I decided to use a floater cushion and just lazily floated around. It was absolutely relaxing. The time allotted for the excursion was generous. The captain and first mate were extremely outgoing and had a great time with the guests as well. They really just made everyone feel included with their inviting demeanors. This excursion has been the pinnacle of our vacation here in Destin and we all agreed that this was something we will have to do anytime we come to the area.

During our tour Tonya was our captain. She was amazing and very knowledgeable. We spent an hour watching dolphins and then the next 3 on a sand bar. The sand bar was awesome for the adults and kids. She put out a floating mat to lay on and parked right next to an inflatable obstacle course for the kids to play on. While on the sand bar she took a ton of photos and videos of everyone so you didn't have to worry about it. At the end of the tour she sent them to us at no extra charge. If we ever go back to Destin FL then we will for sure rent the boat again!!!! Hopefully Tonya is our captain again! NOTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCE!!

They…read morewere very friendly and aimed at making this a great experience from the moment they introduced themselves. Immediately we were all laughing and joking like we were all old friends. The labeled life jackets are a nice touch. As we headed to the boat Chris got to know us a little and found out what type of experience we were looking for. At the beginning of the ride he asked what type of music we liked and he found a good station for the "turn up" to begin! It was a beautiful ride out and on the way he allowed us to do the Titanic pose and get pics of that lol. Chris was informed that we had one in our group that could not swim and did not want to be thrown into the water. He was amazing at making sure we got in a good ride without anyone being thrown off. Once she had had enough he allowed her to get back on the boat so that the other 2 of us could go for a faster ride. It was so fun!!! We both ended up being thrown off (which is exactly what we wanted). There weren't any rides scheduled after us, so on the return trip Chris made a detour to allow us to get up close views of some dolphins that were in the area! We saw about 3 or 4 of them swimming right next to the boat! It was beautiful and they captured it in our photos. We did opt for the photo package, and if you decide to do this ... I suggest you do to. They captured EVERYTHING. And who wants to worry about who's gonna take a picture when you're having fun and being thrown into the ocean?!? What I found exceptional about the photo package is that you are not given the photos immediately. You actually get a link to download them. This way they go through the pictures and get rid of any "junk" photos so you don't have to! You get amazing quality photos that will have you laughing for hours. We ended up with 82 QUALITY photos (in comparison to another activity we purchased a photo package for and ended up with 25 photos, but a couple were duplicates and another one was blurry/unusable). He even took the time to put the phrase "TURN UP" on one of the pics!!! It's worth it! Thanks again Captain Chris and crew for an amazing experience!
