Signs off hwy 99 directed us nicely to the winery. It was a nice detour on our long trip. We walked into a nicely air conditioned foyer and bar. The hostess/host were setting up for a Friday night event in their main room which was spacious and filled with barrells. The tasting was incredible, and they offered us wines off the list as well. In the middle of our tasting we were given a tour of the winery. It's small but a great space where they procure grapes from the central coast and bottle the wines. It was explained that grapes for most of their wines would not survive the heat Madera. If we lived closed we likely would be back. Great stop for all those traveling the 99. Tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle but checkin on yelp for free tasting otherwise. read more

I called a couple of hours prior to arrival because there was going to be about 8 of us wine tasting. Bre (or Bri?!) was super friendly on the phone. She asked if there was an occasion and I told her we were doing a joint bachelor/bachelorette night out and this was a brief pit stop to our final destination. She went above and beyond to make it special for the soon to be bride and groom! She made a bunch of delicious appetizers and little cheesecake desserts as well! She also typed and laminated a paper wishing them congratulations and had sharpies so everyone could write a little note on it! She gave them both a free wine glass as well! Being ignored during a wine tasting sours the wine. We had horrible service the woman behind the bar was so "into" the only other couple there that she never told us what we were tasting. Being members at other costal winery's we were very disappointed in the service. Wine was ok, just don't know what was what. We were going to head to paso but wanted to stay close to home wish now we had taken the drive to Paso. read more

If you are headed up north or if you happen to be in the Madera and Chowchilla area and like wine, you should definitely make a stop here. We never knew about Cru Winery until we moved into Palm Lakes Apartment Complex. Our apartment complex owner is also part owner at Cru so we get a lot of Cru and Mariposa wines for special occasions. However, the first time I ever went to Cru was in 2014 for the chocolate and wine event. It was fun. It wasn't dinner, you just had wine, snacks and a chocolate fountain. I loved their wine barrel room and cute courtyard and their entrance was very appealing to the eye. I am a big fan of their unoaked Chardonnay. A lot of their wines are made from grapes found in the Central Coast. It goes down smooth and has a slight smoky taste to it. Checking in on Yelp gets you a free tasting. If you get Nate to do your wine tasting, he is very knowledgeable about every wine there. They also ship if you want to send a bottle of wine as gifts! Decided to stop in on our way up Hwy 99. The wine is very good and they have a great tasting room with a nice patio area.

This was a great stop for us to get off the freeway and relax. After buying 8 bottles, it's apparent that this was fabulous wine! The girl working (I wish I remembered her name but I do know she was vegan) was awesome. I highly recommend this stop. I have probably been to 100 plus wine tastings and I can say this was great. Ken, the winemaker is very knowledgeable on all wines and offers delicious food ideas through his experience and his customer's testimonials. Prices are good considering the quality is so good. Had a blast here with my friends today! We drank a bottle of wine on the patio with some cheese and salami! Not a great place to come if you are looking for a meal with your wine but they have great snack foods like Bravo farms cheese and other great wine snacks! Was very reasonably priced! Even on a hot day the patio was great because of the breeze and misters! The girls who were working the wine tasting counter were very friendly and knew how to find a wine for each of our tastes! CRU is a wonderful wine company with an amazing and inspired winemaker, a friendly, knowledgeable and efficient team and a wide variety of really wonderful wines. I visited this winery with a friend almost two years ago and after one wine tasting (which included me purchasing quite a few bottles of one of their award winning Pinot Noirs) I became a member and have really enjoy the experience. The events held at this winery have also been fun including Paint & Sips, Paint & Design, Wine Down Fridays (with terrific entertainers) and so on. I have been wanting to come here for years because their Pinot Noir is so tasty. Decided on a Sunday to pop in and Kali helped us. We loved it so much we decided to join the wine club! This is probably the best kept secret of the Central Valley and is located off the 99 just north or Madera. We originally stopped here a few years ago on our way to Sonoma and were impressed with the wines, and then we re-visited the tasting room when we moved our granddaughter to Merced in August 2015. The wines were excellent, the prices were reasonable, and the service was attentive and friendly. We loved the wines so much that we joined the wine club. We visited our granddaughter and the winery again in April 2016 and bought a case plus of wine. We were so appreciative that one of the girls in the tasting room offered to carry the wine to our car, as it was heavy, and we are in our 70's. Customer service is great here. We again visited the tasting room in August 2016, this time with one of our daughters, and again bought a case plus six bottles of wine. The girls in the tasting room remembered that we have a granddaughter attending UC Merced and asked about her. Again, the girls in the tasting room transported the wine to our car and loaded it into the trunk. When we got home, we found that instead of three bottles of sangiovese, we had two bottles of sangiovese and one bottle of tempranillo. I called the winery, explaining the situation and that we live five hours away. Alexis was very apologetic, told us to keep the bottle of tempranillo, and managed to find another bottle of sangiovese for us, which we agreed to pick up on our next trip to Merced. That next trip was in October, just last weekend. In the meantime, we had ordered three cases of one of the wines that was on sale, so we had three cases of wine plus our September wine club shipment to pick up. The girls in the tasting room asked about our granddaughter and also remembered that the last time we had visited our daughter had been with us. They seem to really take an interest in their wine club members and amazingly remember conversations from prior visits. (I wish my memory was this good!) Alexis and the other servers in the tasting room made our visit so pleasurable and went above and beyond in customer service. Again, one of the girls took the wine to our car and loaded it into the trunk. I cannot say enough good things about the wines and the customer service here at this winery. Wine tasting was great. However, they told us that if we bought a bottle of wine, the $7 wine fee would be waived... They told us that the tasting was $9 for individuals, but for parties of 8 or more the tasting fee was $7. The wine tasting "itinerary" they brought all 15 of us, said $5 wine tasting... That was fine, no issue. After we paid for our $7 wine tasting fee, and went to buy 2 bottles of wine, they said the wine tasting fee isn't waived for a party of 8 or more... Every person/ couple paid separately, so a party of 1 or 2, got charged the wine tasting fee and for the full price of the bottle/s of wine. "Party of 8 gets charged $7 instead of $9 and the $7 fee gets waived when you buy a bottle." I made a phone call to the winery the very next day, anonymously, and asked how the wine tasting fee/ buying a bottle with a party of 8 or more worked because I had "heard" about them not waiving fees for "parties". Girl on the phone, (never told me her name), said "the fee is always waived". Did I get swindled for my girlfriends birthday wine tasting, or are they not on the same page?? read more

Just had my Daughter's wedding at CRU. We were able to do the whole event in one place which was a big help. The wine is great. Liz the CRU event coordinator was delightful to work with. The dinner in the Barrel Room was beautiful. The staff worked to accommodate our needs. I liked that guests were required to go to the bar to be served wine which we had purchased for the event, it avoided wine waste and kept a few from getting too "happy". A great evening was had by all, lots of compliments, no complaints from the guests. I recommend this venue, and the wines are really worth a taste even if you don't have an event to put on. read more
