We used CP Mechanical to replace our HVAC a couple of years ago. When our exterior stove fan went out we called them again. Within a few days of the first call we had a tech over to check things out and quickly diagnosed the fan assembly and capacitor needed replacing. Bait and Switch!! - Service request: Low airflow for the furthest branch duct. - Recommendation: New HVAC System ($9-$11K) plus rodent and asbestos abatement!!! Yikes!! ;-( See the pictures and judge for yourself! It's like going to an emergency room complaining about cold hands and they recommend heart surgery. My Tenant was complaining about a low hot airflow to the furthest ducting run. To complicate matters was that they had thought the low airflow was caused by rodents damage (possible leaking duct). My Tenant had CP Mechanical (apparently they are the preferred HVAC vendor at the property management company that my Tenant manages) came out for the service and instead of addressing the common problem of a low airflow to the furthest duct run, they recommended a completely new HVAC system ($9K- $11K) and that's not including the rodent and asbestos abatement that they recommended before they came out again to perform a more complete estimate. What makes this case worst is that the ducting in question was right there next to the attic opening and they could have easily addressed what was the problem but they complained about irrelevant things (rodent odor and asbestos) which were not stopping them from solving the problem. So in comparison, I had another company come out and they did not even raise the question about the rodent odor or asbestos. They were able to provide the estimate with one visit. However, CP Mechanical claims that the abatement has to happen b/f they come out to give a more "complete" estimate! Later, the fix that I did several weeks later was to change the furnace blower speed from Mid-High to High which I the Landlord did for FREE. Quick shout out to Ron at Maintech Service Plumbing & Heating Specialists for giving me the free advice over Yelp messaging. With the exception of the furnace voltage and thermostat, they did absolutely no quantitative testing for the problem (leak test, air flow and temperature measurements). Their only reply when I questioned their report for clarification is that they said that it was an initial or incomplete report. If it is why even give that recommendation. They also claim that they did not recommend a new HVAC system. You go see the pictures and determine that for yourselves. To make matters worst, my Tenant gets an attorney and weaponizes their "incomplete" report to tell me that I am breaching their warranty of habitability because the whole HVAC system needs to be changed!! So I contacted Chris Paul again to ask them to pull and disavow their "incomplete" report b/c my Tenants are weaponizing it against me to try do a constructive eviction where the Tenant can claim that they are living in an inhabitable house and thus they can terminate the lease and sue the Landlord for damages. Chris refuses to disavow the report and then punts me over to their attorney who also won't disavow the report. How hard is it for them to do that??? They still refused to disavow the report when I told them I was going to complain to the CA Bureau of Consumer Affairs (where they are have a contractor's licence) plus I was going to post an honest Yelp review about my experience. Well here's my review and the pictures with my comments of how "incomplete" their reports and recommendations are. TL;DR: See the pictures and judge yourself! Bait and Switch: issue is low airflow to furthest ducting which is a common problem in older homes and CP Mechanical recommends a new HVAC system!! I contacted them as they are a in the dealer network for my air conditioning unit- Bryant. Tech came out and immediately diagnosed the problem. Pump issue. Took it out and said they would order the part and get in contact with me. Left with the part. 30 mins and $190. 30 days and no contact from them. Called and the parts are arriving tomorrow magically! Didn't get authorization for the part, provide me a quote or anything. I found the part online at Amazon, Home Depot etc. Update: Their pump charge to me is $150 plus tax- $50 on Amazon Prime- delivered. Assume it would have been another $190 for installation. Good thing it wasn't summer or we lived in a hot climate or would have been in a tough spot. Based upon lack of responsiveness and over charging have downgraded from 2 stars to 1. read more

While my experience still happened, I have to give them credit for hearing about the problem and moving quickly to stop it from happening to anyone else. I cannot say enough good things about Bayside and Chris in particular. The radiant heart in my condo had died and space heaters we just not keeping it warm enough everywhere. I called Bayside for a recommendation; Chris immediately suggested a Mitsubishi ductless split system. He looked over the condo and figured out the best locations for both outdoor and indoor units. I had to then go to the HOA for approval; Chris even came to the board meeting to answer questions. He was great! The unit is in now and I am thrilled! I have a programmable thermostat so it all works on its own and it is awesome! Very quiet and comfortable in every corner of every room. Had 3 well known companies come out and discuss full house vs room options for my two story home. Chris from Bayside was the most knowledgable and discussed considerations that the others never mentioned. He was not the low bidder but worked with me to get a full-house system that I could afford. Bayside was right on time for all appointments. His crew was clean, fast, and the job looked great. I've been using the system for about a month and it is better than expected. I'm glad that I did not go for the low bid because it was cheaper. Getting it done right the first time is really worth more. Just had a new furnace and clean air mechanism installed by the above company. I can not praise them enough. The two installers, Miguel and Brandon were wonderful. It was difficult to access since this is an old house. They were careful, considerate, fast and expert. Plus extremely nice. Chris Paul the estimator/ supervisor was patient with my myriad questions, showed me how to use the new wireless thermostat and displayed great knowledge regarding a very complicated business. All three were fine to work with through a trying time for us. I hugged two out of three, Brandon somehow escaped! Ricardo was friendly, seemed very knowledgeable and got the work done quickly and professionally. I am not sure where to start as they helped our hole complex with a great working cooling tower!! That's how I came to meet Chris the boss. We had an on going problem with our one bedroom unit that was less then five years old. Chris sent a guy into look at it while they were working the tower install. They seem to know pretty quick the problem was an oversized heat pump. I have had the original install company and another out to check unit. (12 times) over the past five years. Chris check the serial number on unit and discovered it was to large. Yes you can have an over sized unit. I am only talking 1/2 ton more but the systems are smart technology and thats why it keeps shutting down. That lesson cost us $9000.00 and we still had to get it replaced. Bayside and Chris's crew came out and had us going within two weeks of contract. One instal visit which is followed by a technical service a week later to make sure it runs smooth!! I really wanted to rate Bayside higher as both people who came out (Eric to fix AC and Jim to give a quote to replace AC) seemed like nice guys. The work was somewhat disappointing, however. Eric charged two hours plus material (total of about 450) to identify the problem (he also spent time looking at the other two ACs) and to replace a broken capacitor. I paid without complaint but the AC stopped working after one day. Later on, I was told by another contractor that the capacitor Eric put in was of the wrong kind (the other contractor didn't know the capacitor was recently replaced by Bayside so the opinion was unbiased). To be fair, Eric did tell me that he put in a non-OEM part he had with him, to save a trip and extra expense. The quote Bayside gave for replacing the AC units was also a lot higher than another contractor's. Bayside's owner reached out to me after I expressed disappointment and offered a partial refund. I appreciate the responsiveness and gesture. read more

Our Eichler Style home was built in1954 with primitive and costly radiant floor heat. It was always too hot or cold and hard to control with its line voltage thermostat mounted 48" from the floor. The heat died in 2008 and major concern was a new heating system not air conditioning. We looked into ductless heat pumps (air conditioners that reverse) without the cost of ugly exterior duct work. . Chris was recommended by our friend who manages an HVAC supply store in So. San Fran. I asked him what system he would put in his own home and who would he have do the installation and he quickly said Chris Paul. . The installation was flawless, we used two condensers and five zones to accomplish the job. Chris is like a factory man for Mitsubishi, his depth of knowledge on equipment placement and sizing was unbelievable. Other contractors wanted almost the same amount for a Gas Furnace with ugly 12" ducts roof mounted. I don't think that you could find anyone better to successfully retrofit a 50+ year old hydonic system. His bid was only slightly higher than other contractors quoting LG and Fujitsu systems but we decided on Mitsubishi Mr.Slim because of its advanced design and 20 Seer ratings. Simply, you can't find anyone better if you need to redo floor heating. In its first month of use, our electric bill was only $ 80, remember you leave it off in rooms not used and when you turn it on it quickly cools or heats the area efficiently and quietly. read more

The office staff was flexible in setting up an appt to fit my busy schedule when I was having problems with my heater. The technician was also friendly and got my heater working again after 1.5 hrs and a $250 bill (ouch, but all HVAC vendors are outrageously expensive). He then recommended that I needed another replacement part at $400 as my problem may occur again. We left the house at the same time and when I returned there was an incredibly loud knocking noise in my utility closet that houses my furnace and water heater. So I called them back to tell them of the problem and their first response was sorry, we can come back but for another $130 service call. Being somewhat frustrated by the quick response to charge for another service call, I spoke with the owner, Jim who graciously said he would come out and look. Great. In the meantime, my good friend who is a licensed contractor (plumber and electrician) happened to stop by with his kids. While we were talking the owner arrived and within the first 2 minutes insulted me multiple times implying that I was stupid to think that his technician had done anything wrong and how dare I accuse his company of being unethical (which I never did). I only said that I do not believe in coincidences and that his tech had been working in the utility closet and now I had a problem with the water recirculator. The owner's tone was so outrageous that my friend, the contractor, thought that maybe he was kidding, but then realized that he serious and utterly out of line. In fact, the owner told me that I should find another vendor to service my furnace. If our children had not been outside playing while this was happening, I would have gladly kicked this guy off my property with a few choice words. I can honestly say that I have never been treated so poorly in my life by any vendor, and the owner no less. After the whole experience, my friend was so upset at how I was treated that he will also never use this vendor (and he is in the business), not too mention that, after meeting the owner, I truly doubt that I actually needed $400 more worth of work. read more

Am I glad I had the opportunity to hire this company to do a service call on our relatively new Trane HVAC system! Anastacio arrived on time and started right away to perform the needed checks and maintenance on the system. I also informed him of some issues we had with the wireless Honeywell thermostat not responding immediately after turning it back on after a long period or to adjustments we make in raising or lowering the wanted temperature. He was able to determine that the circuit control board was defective (ouch! several hundred dollars to replace!). However, he felt the board might still be under warranty, which was later confirmed with a phone call from Sue. She had called Trane and was able to determine that the board is indeed under a ten-year warranty (our system is five years new). Wow - that's what I call "above and beyond the call of duty!" Also, Anastacio provided me with other tips on better batteries to replace in my thermostat. In addition, I was able to get an introductory Yelp rate for my first time service call. I highly recommend this company and will definitely use them in the future! read more
