I'm 6'3", 205lbs, average adult male dimensions. The body shaming was something different. I have a locked up muscle on my left outer thigh that I asked beforehand they spend a little extra time on. Also in that spot, I have a healed scar from a serious burn. It's about the size of a silver dollar. It's a burn scar, it's not very pretty, but it's healed skin...it is what it is .
Lisa was the person performing the massage. And it was going well up to the point (around 80% completed) that she kinda danced around the locked up muscle and then went to move on. Figuring she just missed it, I paused and asked that she work on the specific locked up band, not even thinking about my scar at all....and she pointed to the scar and said "No, no, no, it's okay, it's okay", and refused to work on my muscle because of my FULLY HEALED BURN SCAR. The muscle I'd brought up beforehand. I was kinda speechless.
I let her finish the last of the 90 minutes. I didn't feel like having to argue about the price by shortening the time. There was an obvious dynamic shift in the room and we just got through it.
Now, I'd called ahead of coming to check availability and spoke to a man - the same man I spoke to when I arrived who led me to the room.
When i walked out to pay, she and he were both at the counter. I paid for her services as I told them how unprofessional that was, and that I've never had this occur, and I've had massages with this scar... God forbid anything below a significant scar ever lock up. But anyways, as I'm saying this, they both begin to act as though there was some language barrier than prevented them from responding to the complaint. They both just smiled and nodded and said "Thank youuu" in high pitches until I laughed and walked out, which took about ten seconds, which was a long ten seconds.
So that's ridiculous. Like ridiculous. She agreed at the beginning to what I told her I needed, and she saw it then. If it was going to be like THAT, she should have told me then, and I wouldn't have used their services. That would've felt badly enough. But doing it after having agreed to do the work, while I'm relaxed on the table, and 80% into the massage is every kind of unprofessional there is. And then to just nod me out the door and pretend nothing was comprehended. I'll leave, you're not gonna take my chill from me. But I'm able to articulate my thoughts here, and I hope the whole town reads this.
So listen: If you have any blemishes that you try to convince yourself are only a big deal to you....and that nobody else is actually judging you off of them...they actually might do that to you, here. But it's okay, because afterwards, they'll pretend like they didnt.
