Their frozen hot chocolate was a high school staple, their flavored coffee and work friendly ambiance got me through graduate school, and I never visit RI without bringing back a bag of chocolate chip cookie beans. I've taken meetings at their small tables, curled up in an armchair with a book by the fireplace, gone on dates on the patio and snuggled with my infant daughter on the couch. There's a spot for whatever you need - as long as you get there before the rush! My go-to has always been a jalapeno bagel with jalapeno cream cheese; their baked goods are all made in-house and are chefs kiss. Once I became a coffee drinker I always opted for a black flavor of the day but have slowly been switching to a seasonal latte. It's all yummy. I love seeing their menu items grow and will occasionally treat myself to a slice of cake. It's not a cheap coffeeshop but I personally don't find it to be outlandish. Unfortunately indoors is not the most friendly atmosphere for a rambunctious toddler so on crummy weather days I visit other coffeeshops. The patio is better, though. When I asked about why we were charged more, I was simply told by the person at the counter that that was the price listed on the tablet they were using and that the menu above the counter must be out of date. I'm much less concerned about the overcharge $2 ($1 per order) than the attitude toward the customer evidenced by the person at the counter and, especially, the management, who should keep the menu above the counter up-to-date and instruct the staff to honor posted prices. I don't expect anyone to don sack-cloth and ashes over the overcharge, but someething like, "Oh, I'm sorry. We need to change the menu. I'll refund you two dollars" would have been nice. Posting a price and then charging a higher one, in addition to probably being a violation of deceptive trade practice law, is dishonest.

It's right across from a bus stop with the buses pull in turn around and go back out. It is kind of a busy street. We know that today but it doesn't seem overly busy. Just make sure you cross in the crosswalk type of thing. It's right up the street from assisted living and from the ocean you can grab sandwiches and stuff and eat there down the street and sit on little benches on the water and have your lunch and see the boats and stuff floating out in the harbor it's really very nice quiet beautiful location.

The bread was very good too but I wish it was slightly toasted (next time). My drink was good. It was not sweet at all, which the cashier did prepare me for, but it still tasted good to me. Generally, Sophie's is 5-stars, but: On our last visit, we overheard the person who was cooking/prepping sandos saying he'd make one more order before he left since he was already late. We were the "lucky" couple he stayed to serve. Translation - both of our orders were messed up. I'd ordered the Gardener, which was delivered without the avocado that is specifically listed on the menu, and which I wanted. My husband ordered the smoked salmon sandwich on an everything bagel, NOT toasted. His order included all of the elements, but the bagel was toasted. He hates warmed cream cheese, but did love the side of pita chips his came with. Still, the iced coffee was as good as usual (even in the off season) and the indoor space remained cozy, with several options for seating (high tops, low tops, and easy chairs).
