One of the best trips I have had on a river. Brady knows his stuff and was not only a great guide but a master rower. He put me into fish like few know how to do. Not only did he know what they were eating but he also maneuvered the boat constantly to get my flies where he wanted them. It's been a long time since I be learned on the river, Brady taught me some things I will use many times in the future. We went as a group of three boats. The other two guides were amazing as well. Had two guides...one was average the other was completely new and didn't know how to tie a proper knot....a bit disappointed compared to previous years and will likely never use them again. So I've floated the Gray Reef a number of times with different guide services, and Cowboy Drifters are hands down the best outfit I've used by a long shot. 1. They are located at a boat take out on the North Platte with access to private water to fish if you stay in their waterside cabins. And the access/fishing is great! 2. I have taken float trips in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Washington, and this was the FIRST guide service that went from dawn to dusk. We fished a good 2 to 2.5 hours longer than I was expecting. 3. Our guide, Charlie, was very knowledgeable and actually gave the first logical answer to the question "why might barometric pressure affect fish feeding in different ways?" that I have ever heard. Plus he put us on some nice fish and great drifts. Really, can't say enough good things about Cowboy Drifters. Highly recommend! read more

On October 18th, I made a float trip reservation with Cowboy Drifters for October 24th and paid a $212.50 deposit. On October 20th I was admitted to Piedmont Hospital for emergency cardiovascular surgery. As a result of the hospitalization, I had to cancel: 1) my flight to Casper, 2) my week long hotel stay in Casper, 2) my week long car rental in Denver and 4) my float trip Cowboy Drifters. All of the businesses involved either refunded or credited my fees EXCEPT Cowboy Drifters. Cowboy Drifters took the entire deposit and would not allow me to reschedule, nor were they willing to work out any compromise! (I sent a picture of my surgical wound and the doctor's transcript describing the procedure to Cowboy Drifters.) No guide service has ever had such a callous attitude. read more

I recently stayed at Cowboy Drifters and used them as my guide service for 6 days (3/27-4/3 2019). We fished the Grey Reef section 3 times, Fremont Canyon a half day due to a blizzard!, and the Mile twice. The accommodations we're great, very nice and roomy and more than you could ask for in a fishing cabin...not to mention the awesome fishing just outside your door! Now to the fishing..EPIC! The Grey Reef section lived up to everything people have said and what you've read about it! The guides, Tony and Blake, were awesome as well as knowledgeable and rowed me thru all the runs multiple times each day. We caught lots of fish. Guide Kelly took me to Fremont Canyon one day and it ended up being a wild snowstorm but the fishing was just as wild the few hrs we spent there..the prettiest colored up pre-spawn trout you could imagine! A awesome place to fish, especially with a rad guide like Kelly! Then the two Mile trips with guide Tony English to end the trip, what a special place to experience with a guide that knows it like the back of his hand. Caught some of the best fish of my life! Look no further and book Cowboy Drifters for the best experience possible! Jason and Bethany, the owners, we're awesome. They'll make sure your comfortable, fix awesome lunches to take on full day floats, and will put you on the best piece of water whatever given day. This was our second float on the Gray Reef, and we did the upper stretch this go around. Was not disappointed! The Cowboy Drifters Team (Bethany, Jason and our guide Tony) are outstanding! Bethany and Jason are very hospitable and made booking the trip very easy. We were on the water a solid 8+ hours. Tony knows this river like the back of this hand, and put us on some great fish. We lost count on what we netted / hooked - you can't ask for anything better than that! If you haven't experienced fishing on the Reef, you're missing out, and the Cowboy Drifters Team are who you want to do it with! We'll definitely be back - looking forward to another trip this summer with Tony and the CD team. read more

Fishing and lodging from Cowboy Drifters was great. Heather communicated perfectly and professionally from the very first inquiry I made. Nick, my guide, called me the day before to sort out details and clarify my expectations for the trip. Then, on Saturday, we fished Fremont Canyon. I caught 8 trout; lost another 8 or so due to breaking off. I learned a ton and improved my game along the way. The next day, I fished Fremont again on my own and caught a couple trout in a short session before getting back on the road to Denver. I highly recommend this outfit. read more

The absolute worst fishing experience of my life. The owner, Jason, is a terrible guide. Was told in advance that the fishing was great. Jason was not prepared and spent over an hour after we arrived to prep the gear. Got on the water at 9:30. We signed up for the magic mile, but he said it wasn't fishing well. Did catch one fish in spite of Jason. Not one constructive comment from our "guide". He did comment that we were not very bright to be fishing in August. (his girl friend told us it would be great, but she left him just before our trip) He put one fly and a hook with a bead above it on the line and never changed it when it obviously wasn't working. Our free lunch was a mediocre sandwich he bought at the general store on our way to the stream. No chips or drink, only a sandwich. The next morning we drove down to where the fish were rising, without our "guide" (when we asked him for advice on flies to use he said "try a scud". We ignored his moronic advice and did much better with dry flies than on our float trip. The cabin had no a/c and no screens on the doors. One screen was laying on the porch with broken rollers that he was too lazy to replace. It was in the high 90s and humid. Not even worth one star. When we protested the bill, he started screaming at us with all kinds of excuses and profanities. Even his neighbor said he was an ass. His new girl friend/assistant offered us a discount if we came back when fishing was better, We wouldn't go back if he paid us. It was 3 days of hell. In 50 + years of fishing, there have been days with few fish, but never a bad day of fishing until this trip. If the guide had been pleasant with some helpful advice and tips, not catching fish wouldn't have mattered that much. read more
