I tried to check in on Friday 1/27/17 and this listing wouldn't come up because it is/was listed as closed... It's not closed!... Cowboy Breakfast is open only one day a year and last Friday was the day... Cowboy Breakfast is open on the last Fri of Jan, 4:30 - 8:30 am... and after a couple of "Edit Business" sent to moderators, it is now listed as Temporary Closed until 2018. I said, "check my pictures, check the local events page because I made an event for it, check their website, etc. Ok, that's good that it is changed now, but I still wasn't able to check in Friday.
This year it was held at Cowboys Dancehall. I like it here and I'm glad they brought it back here. I remember it used to be held for many years at Crossroads Mall. Then it went to Cowboys. then back to Crossroads/Wonderland Mall... now back at Cowboys for the past several years. The party happens in the front parking lot. Food is under the tent. Huge stage with live music and DJ in between sets. Expect to be cold with long lines for free food. This is a favorite event of San Antonio. A MUST DO experience at least once in your lifetime!
Parking can be a bit of a nightmare. You can park in the empty grass lot next door OR park at the theaters right down the road and take the shuttle over.
* HINT * Dress warm and Get here early, like when it opens!
At 5am lines are LONG!... well, not all of them... so before we chose a line, we decided to look at what the line was for. Well the short lines off on the side, like 20 people in front of us which goes quick, was Chorizo & Egg Taco and also Sausage & Egg Taco. That was perfect for us. The really long line was biscuits and gravy. I can go down the street to Cracker Barrel for biscuits and gravy so I sure don't need to stand in that line for one free biscuit. Lol. The other long line was Bacon & Egg Taco. Let me tell ya, that Chorizo sure was good, especially since I could go through the line three times before someone could go through any of the others. Lol. I did not see a line for honey buns but I did see some people walking around with them so I assume they were out there somewhere. Lines were good for all the drinks, quick and easy... milk, OJ, coffee. Again, this was about 5 - 5:30am.
There were games like chess and jingo available to play. Photo booth. A few other vendors were out there. Things to do with your family and friends.
Weather is always a variable this time of year. This year is was about 40 degrees. I was prepared, dressed in layers and I was comfortable.
2017 was a perfect year! read more
