If you go up and down the long way, you can get a nice 3.5 miles in on this baby with some hills. Throw in a weighted vest, and you're getting yourself a solid light workout. There are already so many reviews, so just some notes: 1) Make your way around the current dump (also a Nassau County gem, seriously) and drive slowly. 2) Parking is tricky at certain times of the day and on weekends. Make sure to come before 9:30 on beautiful days, or else you'll be parking far, far away. More steps, If you really want them I guess. 3) Wear your sunscreen! Skin cancer is no joke, and it's pretty bright up top with not a lot of coverage if you walk around to the lake. 4) Beware...No lights in the bathroom and really not the best place to use the loo. There however is a shopping center close by... 5) Look out of all sorts of critters from birds to bugs.. including ticks.

On a quiet day, you can see fish literally jumping out of the water.. how cool is that?! It seems to be quite the interesting park, with activity randomly converging from all directions. You have folks pulling over for a short respite, bikers emerging out of the nearby trail, the occasional lay fisherman near the bridge and boaters loading or unloading for the day. It's really a special slice of calm along the busy Atlantic Ave.

I attended the free 2 hr pickleball clinic in Baldwin Harbor Park, located in in The Town of…read moreHempstead. It was my first time playing, and I took to it like a duck to water. We played doubles, and my partner and I won the game against the other two players. Points are scored only when the serving team wins a rally, and I am a good server. I learned fast how to make the ball hit the court in front the blue line, which is known as the kitchen. Elvis, the head coach, was thorough in his explanation of the fundamentals of the game. We practiced our skills with our peers, getting feedback from the coach that was assigned to our court. There was a coach for each of the eight courts, and each court had four players. I learned the rules of the game and how to score. The goal is to keep the ball out of the kitchen. You can only volley outside the kitchen. The class lasted approximately two hours, and we all had fun. I will definitely be back to take more classes. What I mean is that, when I'm here I am able to find peace and solitude, which is rare today. I'm currently experiencing a profound personal loss and feel my world will never be the same. My mind's been racing and my heart's been beating fast, from both being sick and from ruminating thoughts, however standing along the water's edge provides a much needed sense of tranquility. It's a feeling that inspires hope and reminds me that while sometimes our best made plans go awry and tides made change, the current of life still flows. When you can't change things, perhaps the best thing to shift is mindset. I'm still working on that one, one day at a time.. and walking along the sand here at Baldwin Harbor Park's secret beach gives me the mental space I need to keep on at it.

I've been addicted to nature so badly lately like needing a nature fix or two each day even if I only get to stop for 10 minutes. This morning my first morning bringing my son to school from Baldwin to Babylon and starting my first work day with later hours was a little hectic but I was able to duck into this preserve for a quick escape from the daily grind for about 15 minutes. This trail looks bad ass. It's not overly maintained, I'm suspecting there's a lot of night activity. There's graffiti but I can dig that on a trail. There's litter which I do not dig, destroying nature isn't cool. I can't wait to explore this trail more since it's my new home trail to run it and to hike it and see as many nooks and crannies as I possibly can! I'm happy to have a nature escape relatively close to home as well.

You'll see locals fishing from the rail, walking their dogs, and catching the view with family. You can even beach your kayak or canoe here, just make sure to tie to a tree or large rock. They had a very large commercial sized fridge/ freezing for your food. All tables were out but if you needed more they were very accessible. We paid in full in advance, we chose to pay for everyone's parking which we paid for at the end. Very easy. The girls loved riding the carousel a million times! Only draw back it's there is no AC abs barely breathable fans. Very hot. Would do it again :)

It seems the rest of the park's activities have been upgraded though, such as the kids' apparatus, new and fresh pickleball courts, clean tennis courts and such. The structure of the park is organized and great for the large space. On hot days, there's plenty of shade with trees. The public pool here is large and fun! There is bugs often just as fyi and you need to look online to make sure it's open. There's so much to do here with the different activities!!! Cant wait to see more improvements!!

My favorite is the 8 new pickleball courts shared with tennis courts but the primary use is for pickleball. The courts are lighted for nighttime play and always gets a good crowd. Other activities are as follows: Racquetball Courts Basketball Courts Jogging paths Pool Indoor ice rink Baseball field Playgrounds Dog park Archery There may be more activities available but these are the ones I noticed and have made use of. Staff is terrific. They keep the park clean and maintain the facilities.
