I lost roughly 35 pounds in a 2 and 1/2 week time frame. I can't prove anything but I am pretty doggone sure I was close to death. My strength was GONE and my digestive system STOPPED working. And those were the high points. (I will spare you the gory details; they are not worth repeating.) At the end of the day, the folks at Lakeview got me over the hump and I lived. It was a grueling and a difficult time, but I got through it with a little help from my friends, the grace of God and the folks at Lakeview. It wasn't a flawless operation (no one is), and there were some definite "needs improvements" along the way, but overall they did a great job. A very special shout out to Doctors Hidalgo and Christopher, Nurse Esther and Shane Brosette. There were several others who performed superbly as well. Again and for emphasis, at the end of the day I got well, and my recovery was (at one stage of the game) very much questionable. I believe it is a fair statement to say that Lakeview literally saved my life.

She ask me if I had a name change or what? She laughed at me for saying I didnt change my name and if you look closley you would see my whole name signed on the bottom of my license. She laughed at me again. I was burning up with fever and feeling really ill but she did not care at all. She laughed at me one more time when I said to her (Do you think this is funny?) I felt humilited at that point and said give me my drivers licence back. I started crying as I exited the door. All she did was laugh on my way out. I (luckily) haven't yet been to an ER in New Orleans since moving here 15 years ago, but I've been to plenty of bad ones in NYC, so when I needed to go last night, I feared the worst. Also, I was thinking of the Pitt which didn't help. But good news, y'all: Ochsner Baptist's ER isn't the Pitt. At least on a Tuesday after 9pm. My symptoms weren't life threatening and if Urgent Care had been open, I would have been fine to go there. I was seen by the sweetest triage nurses/techs who took my vitals and EKG. Like I can't say enough how these women made me feel comfortable and OK. I was then brought to a main room with a curtained off area so I could get seen by the doctor, a nurse, a breathing specialist (I have asthma) and while that process took long by the very nature of the procedure, I felt like it didn't take as long as I'd feared, with the exception of waiting 40ish minutes to get discharged. So the entire thing took 3 hours and I spent virtually no time in the waiting room (which was empty). The staff was courteous, nurses and techs were all amazing. I appreciated being seen by all women, including the doctor. Really, the best ER I've ever been to, so good to know!
