This bar throughly won me over the second I walked in. A very cute space they have an excellent section with some 16 beers on tap and an extensive case of unique as well as classic favorite craft bottle and can beers. I really can't properly convey the vast and impeccable selection. The prices are also incredible reasonable even as the neighborhood gets more and more popular. The owners and staff are so wonderful and incredibly knowledgable about every delicious beer they carry. And as neighborhood natives they are invested in the neighborhood and community which is always appreciated. Terrible service! My friend was spoken to very poorly by the gentlemen delivering food. When her husband spoke to the manager, the response was even worse. He kicked out my friend for complaining while other customers could hear. The manager then chose to be rude to the rest of our group. It was disgusting behavior!!! Very unprofessional! read more

Covfefe. Close to great but...The. Beer. Was. Warm. Ok not warm but not nearly cold enough, each beer was barely drinkable by half way through. The beer list was a chalkboard mess without even the alcohol% listed and so tight/illegible it felt more and more like a sobriety test with each beer. The taps weren't labeled and at least half the time you'd ask for a beer by a name and the bartender would tilt his head, squint at you and say "what number is that?" so you'd have to decipher more unnecessary chalkboard nightmare. This place is so much fun!! We were lucky enough to randomly show up the day after their anniversary party so the tap list was freaking amazing! I had a couple great brews by Grimm, Evil Twin, Farmhouse, etc. They have a ton of games you can play as you drink great brew, and they have bottles available for sale which is a bonus. What a nice place. There is a refrigerated glass display of bottled beer across from the bar, and choosing one to try feels like choosing a new book from a shelf in a neighborhood book store. There are two prices listed for the bottles in the refrigerator -- the higher one to stay in the bar, and the lower one (about half price) to take out. The bar does "features" on draft from breweries, so ask for a recommendation if they're featuring something you haven't heard of before. For food, there are usually a few variations on a grilled cheese (with different cheeses, breads, meats, and mustards), or order a big doughy pretzel. read more

I don't understand how this place doesn't have more hype. It has one of the best collection of craft beers in Brooklyn, a really big variety from all types of breweries - much more than Torst or Blind Tiger. I had a great soury-brown ale and an impeccable saison. The bartenders were nice, helpful and unpretentious- which is rare to find in an Brooklyn beer bar. I didn't get to try any of the cheese but it looked like a great selection! The to-go beers were awesome too. It was pretty small and crowded so I couldn't get to peruse them as much as I would have liked but there were some big name beers in there. read more

They have a cute little selection of board games to choose from (bring non-competitive friends, you might have more fun). Huge selection of local craft beers to choose from. Very cool bar. Both the beer and cider selections are awesome, and the bartenders are very friendly and ready to help you choose (they made us try some samples to help us decide). This bar must have split personalities: Saturday night and every other day. We stopped in here after reading the glowing reviews but can't attest for what these regulars speak to. The bar was disorganized and understaffed. The choice between choose your own bottle from the refrigerators and draft was novel but it took so long to get the bottles uncapped, the beer was nearly warm! We stayed and killed a few rounds while deciding our verdict. We weren't overly impressed. The pretzels were impossible to track down after you paid for them. The first time, the bartender told us to come back up in "five minutes" and when we returned, it took 10-15 minutes to get his attention to serve us our food. He gave us crap for not "going directly to the pretzel station." As if, you know, it was totally intuitive to go to an arbitrary spot in the back of the bar with a staffer I had never interacted with before. Nevertheless, the pretzel was delicious so we went back up for a second. Same disorganized chaos, same "five minutes." When we went directly to the pretzel station, the guy said they weren't serving anymore pretzels for the night. We explained we had already paid and suddenly he changed his tune! It was really very bizarre. Neither staffer we interacted with were very customer service oriented. If you want a trendy bar, sure this place works. You could also "uncap" a beer in your living room (without paying $2 for the act) and save yourself the headache of wildly chasing down your late night snack. read more

I like this place, but I don't like surprises. I went in, & was drinking beers pulled from the cooler that were marked with a $5.00 price tag, however when it came time to settle up, suddenly the beers were $9.00, because "we drank them there instead of taking them to go". Huge variety of beers but in terms of what's on tap not a lot of subtlety. Also careful of leaving your beer unattended for more than a minute, they'll sweep that shit clean. Nice ambiance generally. Small garden in summer. read more

They don't do flights, so thats a bit disappointing, since they have about 20 beers on tap. The bar tender was very nice in helping us pick the beer we wanted. Beer in the fridges are priced to stay and to go; often at twice the price to stay. Decent vibe, got busy really quickly. read more

Its all about the beer selection. They have a great rotating tap selection from lots of local brewers as well as some really interesting international microbrews. Bottle selection was equally impressive. The service was friendly. When I visited there was only one point to pay which resulted in some lengthy wait times just to settle the tab but I was told that would be remedied in the near future. read more

I love this bar. The taps are constantly changing so there's always something new to try. My boyfriend like to come on Sunday afternoon, sit at the bar (or the backyard when it's nice outside) and play Scrabble before taking home a bottle of beer from their selection for dinner. I am so excited this beer bar with garden just opened a block away! They have a nice selection of beers on tap as well as a whole fridge of specialty beers that you can buy and take out or have there. The bartender was very nice and let us taste before deciding which is very helpful since there were some esoteric beers no the wall. The prices were reasonable (6-8 bucks for a beer). The bar itself if modern with some wood and the backyard is casual with chairs on a raised lawn. It felt like being in a friend's backyard. Such a great addition the neighborhood. Most bars have inventive and amazing cocktails around here but are lacking in beer quality. This bar and bottle shop is a perfect solution to that problem. I've been to Covenhoven several times - once for a work happy hour and other times catch-up time with friends. The backyard during the summer was cozy. The beer selection is always interesting. DON'T forget to get the grilled cheese - that was the best part - harvarti, arugula and fig spread - AMAZING. Now that a year has passed, I've noticed a decline in quality. I think it's in large part because of the large amount of people that they serve every day. It must be a challenge to keep up with the demand. It's a testament to how good they were that they have attracted such a following, but it's for that very reason that the availability and variety has suffered. My original review also misrepresented the place as a whole. I've had their food and it's not very good. The grilled cheese is comparable to two pieces of cheap toast with a Kraft Single in between. I would not recommend this place if you're hungry, only if you're thirsty for good beer and then happen to want a small snack on the side. read more
