One Great Coffee - Practically nothing critical on even the 2 and 3 ratings. "I love your coffee but this one wasn't for me."

Great place to sit and enjoy coffee. Strong wifi. Friendly people. Delicious coffee. I will be backread more

My purpose for buying from "One Great Coffee" was to find a coffee company that roasts "Apricot…read moreCream," a flavor I used to buy from Gloria Jeans but has since been discontinued, and to get an adequate coffee that I could drink when I run out of my more expensive usual brand until it goes on sale again. I found onegreatcoffee.com on a Google search. My initial impression is that the coffee is good. IMHO, the Apricot Cream is better than the Apricot Creme that was offered by Gloria Jeans, and the Jamaica Blue Mountain is tasty, too. I give the coffee 4 stars out of 5, but I need to deduct a star from the business for what is potentially a deceptive practice. First, there are no independent reviews for onegreatcoffee.com. All reviews are on the website. A note about reviews posted on a seller's website: disregard them all. The webmaster can erase all bad reviews, and it seems pretty obvious that this one did. Over 1,550 reviews and all but five of them are 4- and 5- star reviews, and not a single 1-star review. Even the best businesses get 1-star reviews if only for stupid reasons. You're telling me of 1552 people, not one of them was an unreasonable asshole? Bollocks! I'm waving my bullshit flag on that! Nonetheless, I had a 20% off coupon on top of the 10% for purchasing multiple flavored bags, so I added 11 bags of 8-oz coffee to include a free bag. When I buy online I try to spend the minimum I need to get free shipping. On this site, that amount is $75. Before the 20% discount, the subtotal was $93.78. Take 20% off that, it's $75.02. But on the checkout page, the price got lowered to $93.75 which made the 20% off price $74.99. It's an amazing coincidence that a glitch would take exactly $.03 off the total, to make the total $.01 below the free shipping amount. I figured it might be the software, so I emailed Mike (identified as the proprietor on the site) to tell him about it. He told me he didn't know why that was happening, that he would refund my shipping if I ordered it, and he would even send me a bag of my choice for free in lieu of an order to demonstrate all was on the up-and-up. He seemed sincere, so I assured him he didn't need to do that, and the next day I went back to place my order, except the flavored discount had risen from 10 to 12% which lowered the total cost, so I added another bag to get the free shipping. When I received notification of shipment, I looked at the shipping location, and something didn't look right. The address of One Great Coffee says Nederland, TX, but this shipped from Canton, GA. I copied the ship-from address, threw it in a Google search, and Bam! This is the address of CoffeeAM - a coffee shop in Georgia that sells coffee online, the exact same flavors as "One great coffee" (many unusual) with a blog similar in layout and a website full of great ratings! But, in addition to a brick-and-mortar storefront, they also had something that OneGreatCoffee.com did NOT have - independent ratings. They're rated on Yelp and Restaurantji, among other sites, and the ratings are nowhere near as good as they are on their page. They did have *some* good ratings, but the average was not 4.8 like on their website, it was 3.0. Many 1-star ratings featured people complaining about quality, customer service, and shipping. These were not the glowing reviews they had on the CoffeeAM website, and since this is the coffee that One Great Coffee sells us, it confirms the questionable nature of the reviews on their website as well. As I said, for me, the shipping was fast and the quality was good, but clearly One Great Coffee is CoffeeAM's coffee in different bags. I emailed Mike to tell him what I suspected and to see if he had an explanation, but he chose not to reply, which probably means that I'm right. I'm not even sure there is a Mike. His address in Nederland, TX is a PO Box which you can rent anywhere and have mail forwarded. Mike might be the same guy who owns CoffeeAM trying to sell through a different website to distance his coffee from the negative reviews on Yelp and Restaurantji. I don't know that for sure, but I do know that OneGreatCoffee an CoffeeAM are the same, so if they would put the same roasts in different bags to pretend they were roasted by two different companies, then how do we know the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and the Burundi AA are not the exact same coffee in differently-labeled bags? A function of checkout that lowers a total price that sits just above the threshold for free shipping in order to incur the shipping charge, a website full of suspiciously high reviews, and coffee that ships from the same address as differently-branded coffee, when taken all together, spells deception. I suspect that even though some of us enjoy your coffee, many will not care for your chicanery. My present to you is I will continue to buy your coffee, but my present to my fellow consumer is independent reviews on Yelp. You're all welcome!
