I contracted Couto Construction last month for a massive exterior renovation project: we updated to new vinyl/PVC siding and changed the color from white to blue as well as work done to the soffit, etc. Every aspect of the job went smooth from the initial assessments with Corey, dealing with Mariana in the project department for payments and with the project managers (César and after the first week, Brian). Their construction team was top notch, professional and very pleasant to deal with. They were consistently on time and gave the highest attention to detail and quality. Any questions we had were immediately answered either in person, by phone or through their group chat. Before work began they dropped off the dumpster and porta potty: living in a city, I was concerned space would be an issue but they placed everything with no issue and without blocking traffic. The crew stayed into the evening each work day and ensured that the work area and the surrounding sidewalk were clear of any debris and stray nails while their supplies were kept tidy and off the walkways. Brian and the crew did an exceptional job and the finished product surpassed my expectations. Financially, they were very reasonable and willing to work with us- especially seeing the end result, the cost was a value. They are fully licensed and insured (which is a rarity these days dealing with contractors). I would not hesitate to contract them again for any further projects and would fully recommend them. When I first used Couto (actually I used them 3 times for roof projects to where they replaced it all) I was very pleased with their service and workmanship. I was also impressed that they gave a 10 year warranty on their work. Unfortunately, when you need to call on them to honor their warranty things go badly very quickly. I was selling my house and as a part of that process the buyer's inspector got on the roof in May 2025. He took a picture of what was essentially a swimming pool on my roof. The water wasn't draining. Interestingly, Couto was already aware of the issue because they told me about it when they did the last roof job in March 2025. But despite me calling several times to see when they would fix the issue, they just put me off and never came. With the impending sale and the swimming pool on my flat roof, I called in for emergency assistance. They literally kept telling me they were coming out the next day for weeks. It took them a month to finally get around to dealing with my emergency, and that was after my almost daily calls, emails and text messages. I tried to get one of the Couto brothers to speak with me but apparently they couldn't be bothered with it. a home that needed the roof replaced due to the shingles being but did not have any prior leaks. I hired Couto Construction. They installed the roof during a day that had rain left nails littered all over my property and now have three new areas that are in water. I had contacted them many times to fix the issue, but instead of doing that they insisted that the shingles properly, regardless of the visible water damage that I have. Last July our neighbors tree fell on a portion of my roof. I had contacted Couto construction to replace the broken sheathing and replace the they ripped up the shingles in an area where there was no damage in seal, caulked the pride up shingles, and a day. nobody has followed up with the damage and it is nearly impossible to get a hold of anybody via phone call. This was by far the worst company I could have contacted to do the work in the first place. This is a public service announcement. Everybody should my warning because now I am left paying for a roof that was installed improperly and the company does not want to take responsibility. read more

They did our roof today. Of course the shingles weren't the shingles we'd agreed on, but it's done. When we signed on for this job, we met with the salesman and it took us a little while to pick out the right color. He finished his work on the contract and I signed it. He notified me, via email, that he had the wrong shingle color on the contract and sent me a new corrected contract. I digitally signed that one. Two days before our assigned date I received a call from them at 7:00 in the morning. Being retired I wasn't really keen on this. They asked if I would like the date moved up to tomorrow. I told them no, because we had to finish plans on moving our four cars around including my expensive toy. Two hours later here comes the dumpster. The driver tells me the job is going to be done tomorrow. I told him to keep on going with the dumpster, I wasn't ready for it yet. They showed up on the approved date and when I finally walked outside to take a look, I noticed the shingles were the wrong color. They were the color that the salesman mistakenly put on the contract. Keep in mind that when I initially signed that contract I couldn't, for the life of me, tell you what that color name was five minutes after I signed. I pointed it out and he erroneously wrote it into the contract. I called them, and I'll admit I've been in a better mood. Bottom line is they told me that they would stop work, strip the roof and put the right shingles on. I took a hard look at the roof and it was about 80% completed. We were due for heavy rains and thunderstorms in three or four hours. They said they'd make it watertight, no worries. At this point I just wanted the roof FINISHED before the storm and told the salesman as much... Now I get a phone call from one of the managers stating they wanted me to be happy so she'd like to replace those shingles. She mentioned that I'd signed the original contract with the wrong shingles on it. I let that pass although it irritated me. She mentioned it again and I totally lost it on her. THEY screwed up and I signed a new contract and THEY screwed up AGAIN and used the original contract information... And she's pushing on me that I signed that contract. Once order was in place with Carlos our deck construction was to begin. On time on day expected three men arrived , introduced themselves and began setup. Very professional courteous and hard working. Answered any questions that were asked, worked in the hot sun this past week. Only break was at lunch time and back to work a half hour later. Cleanup each day was quick and done by 5pm. Next day same excellent service We were lucky to have Duarte Canadinha, Patrick and another worker on our project. Met David at the Home Show in the Spring. They had our information so they would call regularly to see if we wanted an estimate on vinyl replacement windows. When we were ready they came right away. Office staff was super responsive everytime I called with a question or emailed them. A man came to the final meaurements who was very nice and knowledgeable. The windows were in stock on time and installed a week after the original date that they gave us. The windows cost a little more than we expected but the install went great. The installers put in two very long days here and they were eager to please us. They cleaned up so well, my deck looked better than before they came! Very pleased with our new windows, which are easy to clean and not drafty like the old ones. read more

I signed a contract in May for them to side my entire house and front stairs, no small job, gave them a deposit with a start date of July 22nd , never showed , when I called they moved us to August 23 rd, called and was told they have no idea when they could start. They never even pulled the permit for my project. Clearly they never had any intention of ever doing the job. Now I am left 4 months later looking for a new contractor, which at this time of year is impossible. They came in with the highest quote , but I thought I was hiring a reputable company. Stay far away from this company if you plan on installing cedar shingle siding. The crew that they sent had little to no experience. The entire project was a nightmare. After one year of the work being completed I need to repair the damage that they did in addition to gutters not being installed properly and aluminum covering on the rake falling off. I would never have them come back to repair their mistakes since it would only create another nightmare. We paid a premium price for defective work. I WISH I COULD PUT ZERO STARS! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! I had 6 windows replaced in July 2020. Five regular window one large window in my kitchen. The kitchen window and one in my bathroom howl when the wind blows. I have been calling Couto to get this situation rectified since September. They sent someone in October who informed me that the kitchen window howled because it was no longer a bay window. I recorded the sound and sent it to the manager that was the begining of November. They finally sent someone out again in January. Manny said the window should not be making that sound and that Couto would take care of it. I was also told the regular windows were not wrapped on the outside and there was wood exposed. now say they have sent the info to the manufacturer for them to resolve it and they want to charge me $2000 to wrap the other windows. Sadly I am not a customer nor would I be one. Driving down 195 I had not 1 but 2 of their work panel vans, with ladders and their rigs strapped to the roofs speeding 85/90 down the highway. I'm no angel, I was doing 72, but doing those speeds through Dartmouth and New Bedford off ramps with backed up traffic is just dangerous. Granted 7:00 everyone wants to get home after a long work day. But one wrong strap slips or breaks and a long day turns into something deadly yet completely preventable. We contracted the company to add a four season room and railings on our steps back in November. The railings have been completed after some challenges, the work was done and I am happy with installation. However the four season room is another story... I was told that the job would start in March. Deposit for the Room was taken in November. I called yesterday and spoke to Lisa , I wanted to check on status. I was told that it may be another 6 to 9 months before the room could be installed. I told her that I need to speak to someone who can give me concrete answers. If you are looking to hire Couto Construction, I would advise you to find a different contractor. If I documented all the problems with my dealings with Coutu it would be so long no one would read it so I will be as brief as I can. I hired Coutu to fix a leak in a cement block commercial building. The quote was roughly $5K. The roof they said was leaking is 64 square feet, flat and 8 feet off the ground. When I questioned the price, I was told by the arrogant sales person that masonry work is expensive. The communication was terrible, they stood me up at the site three times, they showed up to the job with no ladder and one had to be provided to them. They never told me the job was complete but it leaked two days later. No masonry work was done! They had to come back and cut a groove in the cement blocks to put in flashing. I watched it take 30 minutes while the two workers were on their cell phones the entire time. It still leaked. Hours of time and arguments with multiple people at Coutu as they wanted to be paid the remainder of the contract. Brian Coutu told me that they were going to "skim coat" the outside wall to seal it. I was not able to go to the site until after the job was once again "complete". They decided, without my approval, to put white Plexiglas looking sheets on the outside wall. It looks horrific, sends up major flags to potential buyers and still did not stop the building from leaking. I paid the remainder of the contract as I am trying to sell the building and I cannot afford for there to be a lean on the building or to take them to court. So now, I have to pay another contractor to remove the mess Coutu Construction made and to fix what they could not because nobody is going to buy this building in its current state. read more

All I'm going to say is buyer beware. I contacted Angi's list who recommended this company. They called me the next day, sent a guy out to look at my project and give me an estimate within a week. I needed some trim and possible soffit replacement on my one story ranch type house. I was quoted 2300 dollars to replace approximately 20 to 25 feet of both. He even said he recommended replacing a large portion that read 12% on his moisture meter, which I know is quite normal for outdoor trim. I said no thanks. Called in a handyman, he replaced only what was needed, for 500 dollars. This company has a lot of overhead, schedulers, billing people, and various supervisors, production leaders, laborers and estimators. The estimated time to repair was 8 to 12 weeks. Do yourselves a favor, get more than one estimate, this company is keen on doing and charging for unnecessary repairs. I guess they do good work, if they ever get to you. They won't ever get a second chance with me or any of my projects. read more

Signed a contract. Rep forgot to put 3 windows on our contract. Had a conversation with him and he said he would talk to the owners. Never heard from him so assuming it was resolved. Install was suppose to take place end of May or early June. The remeasure happen which took over an hour as we had 29 windows and a slider conversion. Very detailed. It's been 2 months with no follow up. We put a down deposit down too. I decided to call since I had not heard anything in 2 months and it was near when installation was suppose to be. Those windows that the rep was going to talk to the owners about never happened and the project was on hold. Meaning they ever ordered the other windows because they didn't know what was going on with the other windows. So needless to say the whole project of almost $40k is cancelled and having to start back to square one and not have new windows for the hot summer ahead. Very disappointing. read more

RUN.DON'T.WALK.FROM COUTO CONSTRUCTION!! After a successful roof replacement by Couto in 2018 I was quick to have them quote a porch replacement and new siding for my home. The salesperson showed up for the initial meeting on time and I was told I would have pricing for the two separate jobs soon. Weeks go by and I left two voicemails, a week apart, for the salesperson asking him to get back to me. Never heard back on either inquiry. Another week goes by so I made another call that was actually answered by the salesman, who was very apologetic at his "unprofessionalism" in not returning my calls and/or getting me my quotes and again promising to get me my quotes within a few days. Nothing. I made another call after waiting for a week and the call was answered (with more excuses and apologies) with another promise of getting me the quotes that day. Again, nothing. Another week goes by and I called the office to find out what is going on and was told they would contact the salesman on my behalf and that someone would get back to me. Once again, you guessed it, no call from Couto! The following week, I call to complain and talk to the sales manager, who apologizes and tells me he will get with the salesman and get back to me. I waited seven days and got no call back. I again called Couto Constructions office and spoke to the sales manager again, who again apologized and promised a quote that day. I did receive the quote that evening but the job scope was not what was originally discussed, included pricing for gutters that I had not asked for, did not include a replacement door cost that I had asked for, and was all bundled into one price when I had asked for two different prices for each job (porch and siding). All in all, a huge waste of time and energy. The process to just receive a quote, which was wrong, took over two months. Again, RUN.DON'T.WALK.FROM COUTO CONSTRUCTION!! I couldn't be more dissatisfied with the way I was treated as a potential repeat customer. read more
