The courtyard Marriott Tempe is located in a very convenient location that's walking distance to a lot of restaurants, bars, and anything else you can think of. The rooms here have updated carpeting and furniture but also some pieces that make it seem a bit dated. Not sure if it's new or maybe it's intentionally retro. I'm not entirely sure. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard Courtyard Marriott room. In the showers they have big bottle dispensers of shampoo, conditioner, body wash which is a good idea. They're actually better than the typical products that are typically at courtyard marriotts. I don't use the full bottle when I travel so it's a good alternative that cuts down on waste and probably good for the environment. Thank goodness they are conditioning works very well because it is a very warm day outside right now. The check in area is kind of small but it seems sufficient enough assuming that it's not busy. There's also an airport shuttle if you let them know to go pick you up. Be sure to sign up for the Marriott Rewards so your stays are being acknowledged for bonuses and what not. read more

Definately one of my favorite Mariotts near Mill Avenue. I like the new renovation and there are USB plugs everywhere in the room. They have a decent fitness room, outdoor seating everywhere, and when it cools off they will turn on the fire pit for all to gather. Beware parking is limited so if you get a spot it might not be there when you return. The daily rate is $12 and they have a lot on the west side of the building as well. Make sure you get tokens from the front office or you will not be able to exit the lot. They have a small bistro open in the morning and evening, there is no continental breakfast here. One think I like is the lounge had an assortment of board games. The pool was clean and a decent size for the property. Oh and bring your own bottle water unless you're ok with paying $4 a bottle. read more

We enjoyed our stay here a couple of weeks back. The hotel itself was clean and very quiet, which we liked. Front desk staff was nice and provided good service. These hotels can't do much for breakfast nowadays because of COVID but they have a small coffee counter area with a few tables, selling Starbucks coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Room was clean and again, comfortable, and again very quiet. Only issue we had was the parking. Small parking lot with very limited spaces, and you pay $12.00 a night. You use tokens which they provide to leave the lot. There weren't too many spaces the first night we went, and if you can't find a space, you park next door in the apartment parking garage. We also ran into a lot of construction in the downtown area close by which seems to always be happening near the school/downtown. read more

Not a fan. Spent a couple of nights here because we had to get some work done on our condo. The service was definitely not good. And the customer service that we received was very poor. We had to have house cleaning in our room twice to change the sheets because when we arrived they gave us a room that was not clean. Not happy with this place. read more

We enjoyed our three day two night stay here. Ruh at the front desk made our check in experience a breeze! Friendly and efficient, and she offered us chilled bottles of water as Elite Marriott guests. So nice to be recognized! We also used the Starbucks kiosk each morning for yogurt and coffee. The staff there was great! I especially liked the small booth tables with televisions for up to date "fake news". Haha! My only constructive criticism is for the elevator. It was smaller than some we have seen in other Marriott's and it's floor pace was slower than some. Not a big deal, but a busy weekend here could have you waiting to get to your room or the lobby. Plan accordingly if you are a business traveler. We are moving to Arizona in the next few months and my wife's office is in Tempe. We will be back to extend our house search!! read more

Spacious 1 king bed, large and clean bathroom with a nice shower and all the amenities. My review will be related just to the location of this hotel. I did not stay here, I just came to this place and met some friends who are racing Ironman Arizona this weekend. We were able to walk to and from the hotel to the Ironman Village. It is about half a mile away from the Ironman Village and swim start. It is really convenient. There are also a lot of restaurants, bars that are walkable as well. If I'm going to race Ironman AZ, I would consider starting here because of the proximity and convenience to the race event. read more

This Courtyard Marriott singlehandedly cheapened my image of the Marriott brand. Slow draining tubs, worn out fixtures, renovation dust, musty smells, and chaotically placed hand written signs guiding to the make-shift front desk as the lobby is being renovated make this a not-visit-again. $169/night? I've had better rooms for $39. You would do much better at a Super8, or Motel6. Same free wifi, and at least you would get a free cup of passable coffee and a styrofoam flavored waffle. And the train tracks 1/2 block away make it a noisy sleep. So all of the things I look for in a hotel - failed. read more

I've stayed in worse but I've also stayed in much better. On check in my room had already been paid for but they didn't check closely enough and debited my card for 4 more days plus an incidentals charge which was great to have that money held in a pending state for an entire week. The cleaning ladies spoke no English and showed up at the most random and inconsistent times (1:30pm, 8:30am, 3pm and I finally just gave up and locked the door and they banged on it for 30 minutes). Tempe is always pretty loud with airplanes, as it is so close to the airport, but the room I stayed in seemed to have less sound insulation than other places I've stayed so it seemed louder than usual and then I got a fantastic surprise of super loud trains adjacent to the hotel that take awhile to rumble past (I was in the army and I'm pretty good at sleeping through almost anything but the only louder thing I've attempted to sleep through was when I had to camp out next to howitzers firing all night). There are multiple trains that go by in the course of the night so don't think you will only hear one so expect several to shake you out of your slumber. This hotel is conveniently located but for nearly the same price the Tempe Mission Palms is a much better location with a much better nights sleep. read more

I stayed here for 2 nights for a conference. The rooms were clean and the staff very friendly. My room on the 3rd floor was very quiet and there were no odd smells or dirty items. My one complaint is that I had called for a wake-up call. It never came. Totally unacceptable, especially since I had an important business meeting early in the morning. I've always liked staying at a Marriott hotel, however, this particular area is a different story. My sister and I stayed for 3 days for personal trip to the university. The lobby is small, clean, and nice. The hotel does not have room service or in room movies to rent. There is a little cafe within the lobby that serves only breakfast and dinner. They serve Starbucks coffee, but lack the fancy machines. I ordered an egg-white, ham, and avocado breakfast sandwich. It was delicious. First night: My sister pulled out the luggage rack from the closet, only to find a dirty underwear. It was pretty hilarious at the time, but looking back at it now, it was unacceptable. We called the front desk to have someone remove the rack and the underwear. This is when I decided to sanitize the room with my Clorox wipes. Next Morning: We were rudely disrupted by the sound of the smoke alarm in our room. At first, I thought it was my Instyler, since I was heating it up. I was in the bathroom when this happened and couldn't get out fast enough because I was doing my "business" and thought, "Surely, it couldn't be what I ate." I quickly ran out of the bathroom and opened our door to the hallway see what is going on, only to find out it was only our room that had the alarm on. We called the front desk and they said they were testing the smoke alarms, but they were testing our room instead of an empty room. Someone came up and fixed the problem. Last night of the trip on wee early morning: We were awaken by a loud knock on our door at 1am by someone yelling, "Security." My sister jumped out of bed and looked through the peep hole and saw a security guard. She slightly opened the door and the security guard said they had a message that we were smoking in our room. My sister was already angry and told the guy to come in to see if he'd like to see. She yelled at him and told him that we were sleeping. He apologized. I gave 2 stars for the friendly staff at the front desk and shuttle service to the university and airport. read more

Do NOT be fooled by the updated lobby. The rooms are disgusting. I am a frequent Marriott visitor and this is undoubtedly the grossest one I've ever seen. Did someone run out of toilet paper and drag their butt across the carpet to wipe? I checked into one room and complained and they gave me another equally as gross. RUN DOWN is an understatement. I've had stays at this Marriott Hotel more times than I can remember. I've been going to Tempe and Phoenix to attend chiropractic conferences for nearly 10 years now, and this is probably the hotel closest to the airport that I've been to the most. It's my first choice when I go to conferences ( or football games) in the Tempe area. Things I like most about this hotel include the free shuttle from the airport to the hotel. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes for a driver to bring the van, so if you know where you're going once your plane lands, give them a call and you should be able to time your pick up just about right. In my experience rooms have always been clean and the hotel's been fairly quiet. The neighborhood can get quite rowdy (it's a college town) but this hotel is far enough away from the most popular bars that it's not too noisy ( but still close enough to stumble back to if you're out having a good time). I stayed on the first floor and the second floor, and I really like the rooms on the first floor that have Jacuzzi tubs, ask about upgrading your room if your interested and they are available. As I said regarding bars, the hotel is close to most of the action taking place in downtown Tempe. It's walking distance from ASU Stadium and there is an abundance of restaurants, shops, and places to drink along Mill Street. I've gotten some great prices on rooms, but there's never seemed to be a pattern for best time of year, probably expect lowest rates in July and August. Staff has always been friendly and the breakfast area is a step up from a few other Courtyard hotels I've stayed at. There's your typical morning selection including premade items like eggs, bacon, cereals, yogurts and such. There is also a grill cook for making omelettes and at least one waffle making machine. For short-term local Tempe business travel, that doesn't require rental car to get around town, this hotel is perfect. read more

This review may be long, but it is worth your while to read if you are considering this hotel... The hotel is very clean and very nice. The complimentary hotel shuttle is an excellent bonus, and the location in downtown Tempe is great. Now, read on for the negative comments. We checked in on a Saturday night after 9:00pm. After traveling all day, we were exhausted. However, we soon realized that the entire hotel was filled with LOUD, DRUNK, FRAT BOYS. Our room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard ended up being next to and across from 2 rooms filled with FRAT BOYS. We immediately had our room changed to a room overlooking the parking lot. Of course, we were awoken by the frat boys around 2:00am that morning. HOW COULD THIS HOTEL ALLOW FRAT BOYS TO RUN IT FOR A WEEKEND? It is the hotel's responsibility to enforce a quite and safe environment and they failed to do that. Thankfully the frat boy idiots left the next day (there were several busloads of them). Next, the hotel is located next to TRAIN TRACKS. So, we were awoken EVERY NIGHT and early morning by the horn of a FREIGHT TRAIN. I had read about this from other reviews, but I thought they were exaggerating. I was very wrong. How can this hotel be right next to a train track and not mention it on their web site? They should give out free earplugs. I was ready to overlook the idiot frat boys, but the loud train rumbling by every night totally ruined this stay for my wife and I. Lastly, the breakfast is over-priced. They messed up our orders and the "buffet" includes belgian waffles (which you have to make yourself). The "continental" breakfast costs almost $10 an includes juice, yogurt, pastries, bagels...basically the same stuff you can get for free at other hotels! The staff was all excellent, the hotel is actually very nice, but being awoken by a freight train every night is unacceptable. Also, the walls are very thin so you can hear everything outside of your room. We would never stay in this hotel again, not even with the wonderful "friends and family" rate. We would rather spend full price and stay in a hotel that is not next to train tracks. read more

A more humble abode than its flagship sibling. I stayed here for two nights for a conference in Tempe, AZ this past weekend. The hotel itself is clean, extremely close to ASU's campus (which the staff prides itself in since they were wearing ASU shirts on gameday), and for the most part, met all my needs. They seemed to be a bit understaffed, considering it was Parents' Weekend at ASU and seemed to always have a crowd of people waiting to check in or out. That aside, service was attentive (after you've waited 5-10 minutes). Rooms themselves are fairly spacious and comfortable. The toilet is in the same room as the shower, which is normal, but still less preferred than having them in separate areas so roommates don't have to occupy both at the same time. They have a pool. I didn't have a chance to swim this weekend, but it exists. They have an exercise room that consists of: two treadmills, an elliptical, and a modular bench with sets of dumbbells ranging from 5-27.5 pounds. Quiet and air-conditioned. There's a TV in the corner of the room, but it's really only viewable if you're on the bench. I don't really know the price, since it was comp'ed by my employer before I got there. read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in December while on a business trip. It was a decent hotel, but probably not what I would have chosen had I booked it myself. +++'s -The rooms are reasonably nice. Enough space to move around in, and really nice pillows and mattresses. I though the sheets were a little scratchy though. -At least in our room, the shower head was fantastic. A good shower with good pressure is basically one of the key standards by which I judge my stay in a hotel.. if I can't get a good rinse on my hair, I'm going to look like a basket-case all day. -Public computers to print boarding passes. -The lobby is pretty nice and expansive. If you're eating breakfast there, you won't feel cramped or on top of other guests. -Proximity to restaurants, bars, etc. It's not close enough to be loud, but close enough to walk. ----'s -They only had a room on the first floor available (and only two queen beds, despite our request otherwise). The first floor room window's were facing the parking lot, so you basically couldn't open the blinds at all or you would risk someone seeing into your room. -You couldn't get breakfast or coffee from the cafe before 6am. For a business hotel, I figured they'd start a little earlier. We had to leave for the airport at about 5:45am, and it was a little annoying not being able to get anything to munch on. -Related, the breakfast options were overpriced and not very good. I guess that's to be expected from a hotel? -The front desk is usually empty. A little annoying. Sometimes I found the front desk staff rude or unknowledgeable. We were in AZ during a freak rainy week, and the front desk was unclear/inconsistent about whether there were any umbrellas to borrow. read more

Very solid hotel. The beds were great, rooms were big, and the access to Mill Ave was great. The elevators threw me off as I thought they were service elevators but they work and that is what is important, right? The staff seemed friendly and the bar area was clean. The lobby looked a lot more chic than the rooms but that is to be expected. Like I said, the rooms were still nice. I would definitely stay here again. I just didn't stay in the hotel much to really figure out if it deserves higher. For the time I was there, 3 stars is more than adequate. read more

I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a better rating on Yelp than it does but I'll do my part to contribute to improving it. I stayed at the Courtyard Tempe Downtown for two nights last week on business. I immediately really liked the lobby area. It was welcoming and inviting and there were plenty of business travelers relaxing with a drink or coffee and getting work done on their computers. After a brief respite in my room I immediately joined the group and spent several hours getting work done in the lobby. The wifi was great and I also appreciated their business center and being able to print for free. My room was equally pleasing to me. It was clean and spacious. I also appreciated the comfortable bed. Finally, one of the great things about this hotel is it's proximity to so many things. There are a ton of bars and restaurants nearby and it is also very close to Sky Harbor Airport. All in all I had no complaints about this hotel and would recommend it to any traveler! read more

I will give the front desk Kudos for trying. Upon arrival it was late. When we got to the room it was filthy. Hair all over the vanity and bathroom floor. The kitchen area was very dusty and when we made coffee the next morning our cups were in bad shape. 1 looked like it had coffee in it for weeks black with stains and the other still had lipstick from the last user. The whole place was dusty, our heating and air register was coated in dust. The dining lamp was fuzzy from dust and our curtains are black with dust. I went to the local market to get wipes and make it livable. Free breakfast in the AM was ok, but they did not do a great job keeping up with the pace of need. We stayed here 5 nights, looked forward to the rooftop pool and spa and that facility was up to par. I like the location and use Marriott's everywhere. But will have to consider a Visit back as it will be a very hard sale to my wife that it will be clean next time. read more

First time in AZ for a 1 week business trip. The hotel is well within walking distance to many food and entertainment areas. My room was on the bottom floor facing inward to the landscape area. The outdoor view was tranquil and pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable. There was not a lot of drawer space if I had my spouse along, but plenty for one traveler. 3 stars as the tv got none of the nature channels and no Sci-fi, parking was down to one spot only available when I got off work. First, yes the hotel is near a railroad track. If you have a room facing the courtyard this shouldn't be a problem. That's really the only bad item and I only noticed one train a day. The good far out-weighed this one issue. Originally, I had reserved a suite (one bed and a pull-out sofa) for three people. One of the people in my group wasn't happy about this and asked that I switch rooms to two beds. I didn't think this would be an option as we were in town for a marathon/half marathon. However, the hotel was able to accomodate our request and we only had to move across the hall. The sinks are separate from the actual bathroom (someone said they were in the same room) and this is very nice when you have multiple people gettin gready. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and no issues getting extra towels. The hotel is very close to the airport and they do have a free airport shuttle. Just give them a call and they pick you up. The hotel is also just a block away from Mill Avenue so you can walk to a great selection of restaurants and bars. No car necessary. The hotel also has a little restaurant with a nice breakfast and dinner selection as well as beer and wine. I came back at almost 10pm (right at closing) one night and asked what food items were still availble. The woman working the restaurant said I could order anything I wanted. I ordered the mac n cheese. She said it would take about 10 minutes and offerred to bring it up to my room (no charge). Awesome service! I would definitely stay at this hotel again. It is near the college so dealing with student could be an issue at times. However, we were in town for the marathon/half marathon and most of the guests staying at the hotel were there for the same reason. No neighbor noise issues. read more

I booked a room at this hotel (two queen beds) When we entered the room, we learned we were given a room with a king bed, not two queen beds that we had booked. We returned to check-in and explained to Stephanie the room she checked us in to was a king and not two queens. She looked on the computer and explained our reservation had been switched by the Hotel Manager, Rob Liston with no further explanation as to why we were displaced from the room we booked with two queen beds. Stephanie added that Mr. Liston had gone home for the day and she could not place my family in a room with two queen beds as there were none available. No remedy, explanation or accommodation was ever made for us. Disappointing. read more

Pros/cons: 1. I was disappointed that the hotel didn't offer a complimentary breakfast - I mistakenly thought this was standard at all Courtyards. 2. The internet (wi-fi) was fine in the lobby, but inconsistent in the room (there were many dropped signals). 3. The room was fine and the bed was comfortable, but I wasn't wowed by the amenities - it seemed like things could use some updating. Everything was clean, though. 4. The staff were very polite, friendly, and helpful. We were dissatisfied with our initial room (located next to a busy road/train), but they were very willing and able to accommodate a switch. The airport shuttle was very useful as well. 5. The pool could have used some cleaning and was over-chlorinated. But the pool area was clean, and there were plenty of chairs/lounges. 6. Overall, it was an OK experience; really, a free breakfast would have made up for just about everything else. read more

This Marriott is in a prime location. Just a few blocks from the nightlife section near ASU. Although it is very close to the entertainment, surprisingly it is a quite place. The desk was very helpful. The beds are super comfortable. The price was much better than the others that double the price for the same location. read more

I have to start by staying we were not registered guests of this Courtyard. We were staying with a relative in the next door apartment complex and were looking for parking with in/out privileges. The staff was very helpful and easy-going. The were happy to help and I was pleasantly surprised when I was charged a guest rate (very reasonable $8/day!).
