I ended up not staying at the Courtyard in Springfield, OH as scheduled because the very rude front desk employee, Judy Snell, had no idea how to enter my Marriot discount code into the system. I have used this before and it was seamlessly easy. I arrived after 11pm and the front door was locked, I knocked for 10 minutes before another guest let me in. We were all bunched around the check-in desk waiting for assistance. When she finally emerged from the back, without apology, she started grumpily checking in each guest. When it was my turn, she had no idea what to do with my Marriot discount code and said she would be charging me full price and that I could take it up with her manager in the morning. I didn't want to do that because she said the rack rate was $200+ and I didn't know if the manager would even be on site before I left in the morning. She happily cancelled my room, so I am hoping my card is not going to be charged! I went on to stay somewhere else. As I was walking away from her counter she even yelled "they can't fire me, I am a cancer survivor!" Crazy! read more

Check in was awful. The front desk every single one of them has been rude. Rented a room for 2 nights which was a king, added a night on the front end of the stay had to rent a double for that 1 night. No big deal since the next two nights were king. No they sold it from under us assuming we wanted doubles even though at check in i told them I wanted to keep my king for the 2 extra nights. No apologize for selling it, no willingness to try to make it right. The property on top of that is dated, needs a good deep clean, and stinks. The a/c- heat until has an extension cord connected to which looks like a fire hazard. Staff was annoyed when asked for more towels for our other night stays. Will find a different hotel for future stays. Staff has killed this place. Oh also no coffee, or hot water for tea. You can purchase coffee from their coffee corner during breakfast hours. So we decided to stay here after reading the reviews on Marriotts website. I wish we had read the reviews in Yelp first. We reserved a King suite in the top floor, when we arrived we were told due to a mistake it was no longer available we were put in the 2nd floor, affording us a lovely view of the roof and air conditioning units. We had also requested no down pillows due to an allergy and were told to use the extra hypo-allergenic one shoved under the filthy hide-a-bed. As for the room, the bathroom was dirty with mold on the cracked tile, the floors was covered with stains and piece of what appeared to be food and when I opened one of the dressers there were several dead bugs inside. Less then a quarter of the television channels came in. The jacuzzi tub had dirt rings which we scrubbed only to find out the jets did not work. The normal amenities were absent, glasses, coffee cups. For a supposed King suite this was an utter disappointment! There was no coffee in the lobby or even hot water for tea. The hair dryer was broken as well. Outside of the hotel was a putrid smell of backed up sewage, which was visible all throughout the parking lot and the icing on the cake were the homeless people in front of the hotel using needle and pipes. To finish the same elevator mentioned in other reviews is still broken and at 0900hrs without knocking housekeeping decided to come into our room, despite there being a do not disturb sign on the door. read more

We stayed at the Courtyard for our visit to downtown Springfield. The location is solid, as your a short walk to the Co-hatch market and Mother Stewart's brewery. The neighborhood is sleepy, though the hotel is adjacent to railroad tracks which means you'll have trains passing by at all hours of the day. The lobby and our room were both clean and they provided our room at noon, which was appreciated. The bathroom products were premium and our room came with ample coffee and towels - always appreciated too. One (of 2) elevator wasn't working and it seems to have been that way for a while as we saw a number of printed signs saying that one of the elevators was out of service - it made for some slow and crowded elevator rides. On our second day, we got a stern knock at 11am from housekeeping to say "check out noon." I'm not sure if they were asking if we needed our room cleaned or they were warning us that we needed to be out, but it wasn't welcome. Overall our stay wasn't the worst. read more

My wife is from the Philippines which we visit every other year as well as visiting other states in the US; we have experienced many different hotels, but, visiting Courtyard Springfield with their pet friendly policy, I was taken aback - this is the first experience with dogs staying in the adjoining rooms - was surprised to hear barking and running in the hallways. There were dogs across the hall from us as well as in the adjoining room. We were not informed that dogs would be staying in rooms around us - this was a disappointment and not appreciated. We stayed in room 314 at Courtyard Springfield, a room that perhaps is intended for wheelchair bound guests. My wife and I have no special needs and are not in wheelchairs, yet we had to navigate a shower that had no tub, merely a wheelchair ramp, I'm guessing, We found this accommodation to be very dangerous as the ramp is very slippery when wet and allows water to run onto the floor outside the shower curtain. The shower was without the handheld shower head, as well, the hair dryer had been removed from the wall. The door to the room was not flush allowing light and noise from the hallway to come into the room. We were also disappointed to find the hotel did not offer any complimentary coffee or continental breakfast. We had one breakfast and coffee the following day; eating and finding coffee outside the hotel during the remainder of our visit. The early buffet was not appealing nor appetizing, the offerings looked old and unattended. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My wife and I did not spend much time in the room, so it was not essential to request a room change. Overall, the stay was adequate; being that the building is quite old, the room was clean, the bed comfortable despite the late night trains rumbling by hourly after midnight. read more

Absolute worst stay of my entire life. I travel a lot throughout the year and this hotel made me terrified of the next time I will travel. The whole room smelled like a dead animal. The front desk was extremely rude and completely confused. The water was yellow in the shower and sink. The toilet wouldn't flush. I had to ask for a different room 3 times due to the horrendous smell. Whatever you do, do not stay at this hotel. I'm honestly worried for my health at this point. read more

On the night of 9/23/19, I show up around midnight to get some sleep before I work at 6am. I'm promptly informed by the night front desk gentleman, that "the system is down and we don't know which rooms need cleaning, so we won't have a room for you for another hour." I'm tired & confused, and have him explain it again. Yup, heard it right. He recommended going to the Station Bar, up the road. The club/meatmarket wasn't my vibe, but I waited it out and finally got into a room by around 1:30am. I was reassured that I would be taken care of with Marriott points for the inconvenience, and I was offered a chance to spin a cheeseball prize wheel, which provided me with a free drink card... which they were out of. I was also given a complimentary breakfast for each morning of my stay, minus the fact that I work at 6am, which is when they open. Once in my room, I have to decide whether 4 hours of sleep is more important than getting another room, which may not be available anyways, BECAUSE THE ROOM THEY GAVE ME WAS LITTERED WITH DORITOS, RICE, 16 CENTS IN CHANGE, FINGERNAIL CLIPPINGS, and other debris. The bathroom looked like a pubic hair barber shop had been the previous occupant, and old soap remained stuck to the counter. The good thing? Only one towel still had pubes in it. Too tired, and confirming sheets are clean, allowed me to sleep. I try to reassure myself that maybe they were afraid to vacuum after 9pm or something. On my lunch break the next day, I request a vacuum only cleaning, and the gal informs me that her "section of rooms only goes up to here..." (the room next to mine), to which I respond by asking if I can just use her vacuum to pick up all the stuff on my floor. She let me use it for 4 minutes as I race to pick up all that I can. I videotaped my vacuuming, because I knew no one would believe my story. The bathroom had 2 rusty toilet paper rolls, and the grate for the bathroom fan had countless years of lint buildup on it. The carpet in the elevator should've been the indicator for what my room experience would be like, because it looked like it hasn't been vacuumed for 12 years. Maybe this is what I get for not springing the $12 more dollars per night to go from 2 stars, to 3 stars. Needless to say, my bathroom was wiped clean, and the room was left FAR MORE CLEAN than I received it. The good: I was treated well by every employee that I interacted with, which makes it seem like management is the issue. Stayed two nights at the Marriott recently. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, and the staff was friendly. I wish they included the breakfast with the room, but they don't...and breakfast cost $45 (with tip) for four of us. The food was okay - typical continental fare with boxed biscuits and gravy. There are two entrances to the hotel, both of which you can drive a car up to. There was a private parking lot, which was nice. With the air conditioner running at night, I could barely hear the trains running in the middle of the night. I'd stay here again. In fact, I'm looking forward to visiting Springfield, Ohio again. We me and my friends been planning the trip tp Springfield for a convention at this hotel. I was the first to arrived and found out we didn't have a room and that they was booked up so I called my friend cause they was on their way to verify the room and they the staff ask us to spell his name which they then said they have no one in that name to I had to leave and drive back home a hour and 15 minutes away then the next day they charged my friend card for one night smh so he called them and they said they're give us the nite free but of course when we got there it wasn;t free so we paid the night only for my friend to wake us at 4am in the morning complaining of bed bug bites and one was in his pillow and we took a picture of it, they offered us another room which we refuse and went home, not only did we miss half of the convention we also got ran out by bed bugs then they lied after we complained to corporate that we brought them in and gave us a $70 credit and never once took responsibility for out horrible experience so now I read the reviews and see that similar stuff has happen to other ppl this hotel but never again read more

Just passing through on a trip, Decent rate and location. Staff was 5 star, the hotel? 3 maybe...as it needs some updating. Checkin/checkout was quick and easy. Large group using the conference areas on checkin, but didn't phase the front desk clerk...won a "free breakfast" on the wheel spin, but didn't end up using it as I ordered pizza from Rapid Fired Pizza...great stuff even for breakfast!! Anyways, parking was easy in their large lot. Once they update the rooms...this place will really match the staff. read more

However, I suspect that what sustains this Courtyard location is the business, not leisure, traveler. Someone else must be picking up the tab for most guests because all a rate 60% higher than other properties in the area will get you is: 1. A downtown location; 2. A guest laundromat; & 3. An overpriced restaurant & bar (no complimentary breakfast). When you consider these points along with room accommodations which are typical by today's standards, what you get is an average experience at an above-average cost. I've frequented the Courtyard Springfield Downtown on numerous occasions for various events (Mil Ball, Bridal Shower(s), Birthday Party, Christmas Party, etc.). Each time I've been here the staff has been friendly/accommodating and the food is good. This hotel is pretty clean within the common and banquet room areas. Yikes...where to start. We arrived and were impressed with the outside of the hotel given the mixed reviews and remote location. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly staff member who was great but that is where great ended and yikes started. One of the elevators was being repaired but from other reviews it seems to have been under repair for several months. Surely you can get an elevator fixed quicker when you only have two to start with. So after an extended wait for the elevator we arrived to our room on the top floor. The room was clean but there were a few mystery stains on the carpet and a leak on the ceiling. The bathroom was ok. I wouldn't put a gold or platinum member in this room but... Overall we will not be staying here in the future, there are some other Marriott branded hotels nearby we will try next time we are in town. read more

The first and foremost thing about this hotel is its location--its next to an active railroad. Admittedly the trains aren't allowed to honk their horns next to the hotel...but if you can imagine a freight train rattling by a few feet away I'm sure you can imagine the effect it might have. They provide ear plugs in the rooms. I should probably have prefaced this review with the fact that I'm relatively biased against this hotel because it's construction was predicated on the tearing down of an extraordinarily beautiful and historically relevant arcade. It makes me bitter that they thought a hotel in a wacky location (read: next to a train track???) was sufficient reason to destroy a local landmark. Great job Springfield. read more

This hotel is right downtown in Springfield and about a 10ish minute walk from Wittenberg's campus which I really like and makes it convenient for folks who come back to campus. The hotel is nice and the rooms are a nice size for a Courtyard. The front desk staff was very friendly. They greeted me immediately when I came in the door to check in and each time I came back into the hotel. They were even super friendly when I came in and realized I had left both of my room keys in the room and gave me new ones with no hassle. This hotel also has a restaurant which is nice if you don't want to leave as well as a small marketplace with snacks and toiletries. This hotel is my favorite one in Springfield, it's nice, great service, and located close to campus. read more

Got a great deal on Hotwire for $77 before tax. I will want to stay here in the future instead of over paying for hotels in Dayton. For whatever reason Dayton area hotels always seem to be way over priced. This was a much better value and is not far out of my way. The hotel itself is about what you would expect from a courtyard. Not my best hotel stay (and I stay in a LOT of hotels). Night 1. Late check in. High room with a nice view of the clock tower across the street. Room is slightly dated, but reasonably spacious and laid out well for a business traveller. So far all is well. The earplugs on the nightstand are never a good sign and foreshadowed the rest of my experience. It turns out that the earplugs are there because the hotel is located next to a well used train track, as mentioned in other reviews. This might be annoying for some, but was not my biggest concern. After the train, I noticed that the old climate control system was very loud, so I turned it off. Then I noticed that there was a pretty annoying buzz or hum in the room coming from some sort of ADT security apparatus on the wall. I tapped it a couple times (bad idea) and then called the front desk at around midnight to ask about it. They confirmed that yes, that doohickey on the wall does, in fact, hum or buzz in some rooms and that it might go away when the lights are off (not). Then came my favorite part of the evening. At around 12:30 AM there was a vigorous knocking on my room door. After rising and partially dressing I had the pleasure of arguing through the door with a fairly aggressive security guard. She insisted that I open the door (presumably to confirm my safety), which I eventually did after a brief debate. Once my safety and the intact-ness (not sure if that's really a word) of the room were verified, I returned to bed to enjoy the ultra-loud TV noise from the room next door. My neighbor was presumably hard-of-hearing, inconsiderate, and not an early riser, because I was able to follow along with a variety of programming all night long. I am not sure if it felt like we were sharing a TV due to paper thin walls or the presence of the adjoining room door between our sleeping quarters. I am sure that if I busted down the door and threw my neighbor's TV out the window, I would have received another visit from the crack security team, so I just buried my head in pillows and tried in vain to sleep. Night 2. Holy cow. I swear the TV is louder than last night. Midnight switch to another room handled acceptably by the front desk. The new room is more peaceful. Other comments. The breakfast was ok, but uninspiring. The eggs were beyond dry (perhaps a NASA recipe), but the standard fare was available. The gym is typical. Two treadmills, an elliptical, and a bunch of barbells. The indoor pool looked fine through the window. In summary, not a great place for a light sleeper. My company recently switched our "preferred" hotel in the area to this property and I must say I am not thrilled with the change. read more

We've been staying here whenever we're in town visiting family since the early 2000's. Back when this place was just the Springfield Inn it was nice, but over the past decade or so, this hotel has been sliding downhill and had become as much of a dump as Springfield itself... This time I had a 2 room suite. The suite's great for the family because we can lock the kids in the other room to sleep on the the hide-a-beds. That's about all I can say thats nice about this place. The room was dated, dirty, the carpets were stained (pics), the walls had crap on them (pics) housekeeping sucked, the bartender sucked, the breakfast buffet had several broken serving trays (still on the serving line with "out of order" signs hanging on them). The most irritating thing was housekeeping didnt refill the in room coffee supplies. This is a typical problem in hotels and I intentionally left the empty coffee ground wrappers on the deck where they could be seen by houskeeping- she picked them up, threw them away, but DIDN'T REPLACE THEM. Also, someone had a party in this room at some point and hung stringere or crate paper or something like that and the tape that hung that up is still hanging in the corners on the walls (pics). This place has gone downhill. I think this is probabally my last stay. Sorry Springfield Inn, but you've become as big a dump as this dead-ass midwestern town. Edit: Added a picture. I stayed at the Courtyard for 5 nights while in Springfield on business. Upon my check in I was given a room on the 2nd floor. The room had a behind the wall water leak coming from the shower. My bathroom floor was flooded so I requested a move and was given a room on the 5th floor. The room itself was ok, a better view of the heritage building but aside from that nothing spectacular. The cleanliness of the room was subpar, a ring of some sort of oily looking residue left on the nightstand (one can only imagine what that was), stains on closet doors, dirty mildewed grout in the shower tile, fibers and crumbs in the carpet that would have been picked up if thoroughly vacuumed. The heating/cooling wall unit was loud to the point of waking me up every time it kicked on so I kept it off and dressed warm at night. There was some sort of constant buzz in the room as well which remains unidentified. The housekeeper who cleaned my room unplugged my curling iron (which was powered off) which is a big no-no for me-don't touch my things. The hotel restaurant was awful. The breakfast uninspired and generic. The dinners absolutely horrid, dry, stale breads, and the cook completely destroyed my steak which was ordered medium and was bloody rare to the point that I couldn't eat the center. My colleague I was traveling with ordered hers rare and it was blue. She ate a quarter of it before retreating to her room where she later got sick. I've seen chefs overcook steaks in an effort to be on the safer side but never have I seen steaks so grossly undercooked. The kicker of the trip was waking up in the mornings to find German cockroaches scattering around in the bathroom after turning on the light. On the last morning there, there were cockroaches on the walls in the entry of my room near where my luggage was being kept......On checking out, and asking to speak with the manager I was given a card for the desk manager who was not there "that early". I will be calling her today to discuss a refund on my room and I will NEVER stay here again. read more

This place is a Marriott, not an independent Inn, as the name suggests. We started a 2 1/2 week string of hotels with a stay here and were completely spoiled. The rooms were nice but the service was the best I've ever had in a hotel. Everyone was extremely friendly, from housekeeping & front desk to restaurant. I've stayed here over the course of about six-seven years, and it's consistency is laudable. Beautiful surroundings, both the hotel's location in a picturesque portion of downtown (close to the symphony hall, museums, fountains and inviting greenspace and landscaping everywhere, not to mention the stunning, historic architectural treasures--most notably, the heritage center--throughout downtown) and inside-- sleek, modern, and welcoming. It feels more like a spa than a business hotel. Some very hip restaurants on the square just outside the hotel, and beautiful historic neighborhoods with giant victorian homes adjacent-- perfect for walking. This downtown Springfield hotel is vastly superior to just about any business class hotel experience you'll ever have-- truly memorable. read more

I stayed in the Downtown Marriott to attend a meeting and multi-day workshop. I've stayed at other Courtyards and this was one of the nicest. The rooms were spotless and well cared for and the staff was super friendly. I appreciated the reciprocal agreement with the downtown YMCA and the restaurant was decent. I wish the staff at other Courtyards were as friendly as those that worked here. Can't say I'll be back to Springfield but I certainly enjoyed my stay. read more

The room was just what I expected from stays at other Courtyards. Everything was updated and very clean, the front desk staff was very courteous every time I walked in and/or out of the front door. They had security walking around the parking lot which I feel is very important when the hotel location is downtown in a large city. The indoor pool and whirlpool were very relaxing, especially after a hot day on the course. I would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in town. read more

Could not believe this experience today. 0 Stars if Yelp would allow it. My colleague and I were staying at the hotel for one night for a major meeting and presentation today. We brought product samples that were custom made by our team back in the office specifically for this meeting. We met for breakfast at 8am in the lobby and returned to our rooms at 8:50. As we got off the elevator Housekeeping was already in my colleagues room (we had not checked out!), and many product samples were missing. Two Housekeepers were in the room. One apologized and then said that she needed to call down to Regina to get more of the product back. We recovered some but 5 or 6 bags were still missing. Presentation in an hour! As we went downstairs to the lobby to checkout and speak to Manager on Duty, her name was Regina. She apologized for her Housekeeping staff, asked what she could do, but explained that this happens "all the time because people leave samples in their room" and asked if we had put the do not disturb sign on the door. Yes we got the room comped, but still charged $5 for cranberry juice and Gatorade from the night before. Impressive brand experience that Marriott should be proud of... read more

We chose this hotel as the closest (25 miles), nicest hotel with room service to our Christmas destination (the in-laws). I feared this would be the case and should've asked in advance, but the restaurant was closed for all but a few Breakfast hours on Christmas morning. We ordered three out of four of the breakfast menu dishes, knowing we'd have few options the rest of the day (eating at the in-laws wasn't going to happen) and two out of three of the meals were absolutely cold. I know I'm asking a lot for someone to work on Christmas, but it was probably one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. On top of being cold, the eggs were underdone and inedible. The staff at the front desk was nice and we had no maid service due to the holiday. The room was nice, clean, and reasonably priced. The hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas and parking was easy. Since the room had no fridge or microwave, eating was difficult and we felt like homeless people on Christmas. We found a Walgreen's open in the next town over and bought bread and cheese to make cold sandwiches. If I were to go to the in-laws for a different purpose (not a holiday), I'd consider trying the Marriott Courtyard again -- unless I find an equally nice hotel with constant room service. My sister got married at a venue near this hotel, and blocked off some rooms for us to stay in. We were happy because the hotel was dog friendly so we didnt need to worry abut our pet during our stay. The hotel was so accommodating with just ablut everything. They brought items to my sister's bridal suite as we were finishing up the crafts. They found numbers and names for places when we asked questions about places we wanted to go to. The night time manager Ronnie was the worst ever and she single handily ruined my wedding night. Not helpful at all. I spent my wedding night here, and the night previously with my bridesmaids. While in my wedding dress I calked to get my room cleaned from housekeeping. After my wonderful wedding, my husband and I went back to the room to find food not cleaned up, a messy bed and just not cleaned. Of course we both contacted the front desk. I was hung up on numerous times by the so called night manager. After many minutes of aggravation and crying, I never even got my room cleaned, nor my bed made. Not to mention gnats were forming around the fruit that the staff failed to throw out. The night manger was awful, not helpful. Even when we contacted the hotel manger she only wanted to give s a free night stay at the same hotel. I'm sorry I live in springfield, why would I want to stay in the same hotel that Gave me such horrible service. This was the worst stay ever. I do tj recommend for a wedding night.
