Nice Hotel in a Great Location, But the A/C Leaves a Lot to Be Desired
I recently stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Cologne and overall had a good experience. The hotel is clean, modern, and located conveniently for exploring the city. The staff was courteous, and the on-site restaurant served a very good breakfast -- plenty of options and a comfortable setting to start the day.
The one major drawback, though, was the lack of effective air conditioning. Even with outdoor temps in the 70s (Fahrenheit), the room felt stuffy and borderline unbearable at times. I ended up taking multiple showers just to cool off. The window in my room faced a busy street and barely opened, so there wasn't much airflow to help either -- and noise from traffic made it tough to leave open anyway.
I've noticed this issue at several hotels across Europe, so maybe it's more common here -- but for comparison, the Sheraton in Lake Como, Italy had A/C that could practically turn your room into a meat locker (in the best way possible). I wish more places followed that example!
Despite the temperature issues, I'm giving this place four stars because of the great location, friendly staff, and overall quality. Just be prepared that you may be warm, even when the weather outside is mild.
4 stars, lost one star for a warm and stuffy room - all day and night. read more
