I was greeted with a warm "Happy Birthday," and throughout my stay, every staff member I encountered was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. They truly went above and beyond to make my birthday special. I especially want to give a huge shoutout to Michael, who was there every morning at breakfast. He was the perfect person to see first thing in the morning -- friendly, helpful, upbeat, and genuinely kind. He made each breakfast experience even better. Queen and Kendra were also incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful during my stay. I also have to recognize the wonderful woman who checked me in upon arrival. First impressions matter, and she absolutely delivered. She welcomed me with a beautiful smile, wished me a happy birthday, and immediately made me feel comfortable, valued, and excited to be there. Returning around 6:15 pm nothing was done and the front desk person handed me a large black trash bag and told to collect the trash from my cans and leave the bag in the hall. There's a nearby Safeway if you need groceries. Parking was easy. The cons: The bed was uncomfortable for my wife, she kept tossing and turning. The flat sheet was a weird sheet/thin comforter combo which wasn't tucked in properly and was uncomfortable after a few hours. The room thermostat did not work as programmed. We set it for 66 to sleep but when we woke up groggy at 3, it had only gone down to 71. We turned it off and on, plus used the fan feature, no difference. The room vent is located by the kitchen, not the bed, so keep that in mind. The bathroom door slides, is heavy and does not have a true handle as it can retract fully in the wall. Based on that lack of handle, it was occasionally difficult to close and open. Due to the time, we did not want to try to switch rooms as we had to leave for a family obligation in a few hours in the morning. To the hotel's credit, they reached out immediately after I did an internal survey. They said to not hesitate to contact the front desk as it's staffed 24 hours. I appreciate them hearing my concerns.

The historic aspects of the Inn are outstanding. The cleanliness is on point. Until my last visit, I would have sworn I'd stay there every opportunity I had. The only consistent complaint I have in all four visits was the AC either stopped working completely (requiring multiple engineer visits but the plus was complimentary wine) or was near broken and not cooling predictably. Other than that, this place was like my dream home away from home. However, there has been a significant drop in service by the front desk and reservation staff starting in fall of 2025 which has accelerated in spring of 2026. Over a four night stay in May, three mornings there was either no sugar, cream or coffee available during reasonable coffee times (7:30am) and I had to go to the desk to request restock. Also, someone reported to the front desk that a large roach was in the men's lobby restroom sink...the women at the front desk (also day shift) laughed and said they weren't dealing with it. These same employees made fun of some visitors who accidentally came to the wrong business by mimicking them after they left. I've received a few emails promoting an incentive for a return visit, but it has "?errors" all over it even when I open in different browsers. When I call about what it entails, I am told they don't know. And that's if I can get them to answer the phone. I've tried emailing and have received no reply after more than a week. Regretfully, I've booked another Inn for my next visit...I truly enjoyed most of my stays at the Governor Calvert House, but I don't like the direction its service has headed and it's too much money to spend for poor service. THIS DOESN'T APPLY TO HOUSEKEEPING OR THE NIGHT SHIFT EMPLOYEES-they continued to be outstanding.

I would have given the stay a five, but after accidentally leaving a small item behind, I feel extremely taken advantage of by the hotel. My son left a small part to his camera in a drawer. We called and the hotel located it. I was contacted by a staff member about arrangements to ship the item to our home. She was rather rude. I was given three shipping options ranging from over $180 to just over $50. I ship things every day and this small camera part would have cost no more than $7 to ship. Basically I felt like the hotel took huge advantage of me when I was already feeling down that we had left something behind. This experience ruined the whole thing for me.

This is a great place to stay due to being on base so there is the safety & security aspect plus the value is outstanding. It is very affordable considering the amenities like a gym, laundry room and business center and a free breakfast to begin the day and the nicely appointed suites with full kitchens. It's always so clean and the staff is very friendly and professional. The location is ideal with proximity to the exchange, food courts, commissary, and gas station. We do appreciate the security and the need to post guards at the gate. The one downside is their continual rudeness. We miss the military guards, who know how to show respect & courtesy. As a military retiree, I do not appreciate these guards treating you as if you've committed some infraction at the gate or chastise you because you've driven through the lane marked "visitors" then proceed to ask why I used this lane when it's only used for "vehicle inspection." That is not the sign posted! Then make the signage clearer!!! These guards truly need an attitude adjustment; remedial training in courtesy & respect!

I am only giving four stars because when we booked directly through the Hilton website we were not informed about limited pool hours. When we checked in we were informed that on weekdays the pool was only open 3pm-9pm, and the weekend only had limited hours as well. On the evening of 7/7 our family was swimming and it was sprinkling rain. We didn't think much of it, nor did the lifeguard that was at the outdoor pool. On 7/9 we attempted to swim at approximately 6:30/7:00pm after the rain had cleared and there was blue skies and sunshine. The pool was closed and locked. We were told that the lifeguard had been sent home and that the pool was closed for the night. This really disappointed us and our kids. This morning at check out I spoke with the manager, Charles. Charles was very understanding and was a great representative for the hotel and brand. He stated that laws in the county require that they shall have a lifeguard on duty when there are people swimming in the pool, and they have been trying for two years to obtain a waiver from the county to be able to open the pool without a lifeguard due to difficulty staffing that position. After Charles explained this to me it made more sense, and I better understood why the pool hours were limited. Charles helped me to understand and made situation right. Charles stated that he will attempt to have the limited pool hour information put on the Hilton website as well. I would recommend this location for families visiting the Washington DC area!
