The carpet in the room was noticeably worn out, there was a stain on the outside of the blanket, and the pillows were very small and had almost no support. The TV was also very basic, with none of the YouTube or other streaming features I've come to expect from Hilton properties. Overall, the room felt dated and poorly maintained and was definitely below the standard I expect from Hilton.

The historic aspects of the Inn are outstanding. The cleanliness is on point. Until my last visit, I would have sworn I'd stay there every opportunity I had. The only consistent complaint I have in all four visits was the AC either stopped working completely (requiring multiple engineer visits but the plus was complimentary wine) or was near broken and not cooling predictably. Other than that, this place was like my dream home away from home. However, there has been a significant drop in service by the front desk and reservation staff starting in fall of 2025 which has accelerated in spring of 2026. Over a four night stay in May, three mornings there was either no sugar, cream or coffee available during reasonable coffee times (7:30am) and I had to go to the desk to request restock. Also, someone reported to the front desk that a large roach was in the men's lobby restroom sink...the women at the front desk (also day shift) laughed and said they weren't dealing with it. These same employees made fun of some visitors who accidentally came to the wrong business by mimicking them after they left. I've received a few emails promoting an incentive for a return visit, but it has "?errors" all over it even when I open in different browsers. When I call about what it entails, I am told they don't know. And that's if I can get them to answer the phone. I've tried emailing and have received no reply after more than a week. Regretfully, I've booked another Inn for my next visit...I truly enjoyed most of my stays at the Governor Calvert House, but I don't like the direction its service has headed and it's too much money to spend for poor service. However, the windowsills and shades are caked in dust. A bit disappointing especially since we stayed in the pure wellness room which is supposed to be allergen friendly and with an air purification system. The furniture with outlets basically all do not work, making it harder to find places to charge anything. The window by the bathroom is broken and was taped back together with painters tape. The bathroom wallpaper was coming off the walls and the shower curtain was falling out of the wall. We tried to twist it back up in place but the wallpaper and wall where it is screwed in appears pulled away from the wall and needs more serious repair. Lastly, $50 per day for valet when there are basically no other parking options is pretty steep and they don't openly share the cost upon check in... just beware of the cost in case you want to make alternate arrangements! If they took a little more care to clean less trafficked areas and ensure things are repaired and in working condition prior to guests staying in the room, this would be a really awesome place to stay.

Rooms have a nice kitchenette with microwave, full sink, dishwasher, plates, cups, bowls, and utensils, plus a sponge and dishwashing liquid. Plenty of room to spread out. There's a nearby Safeway if you need groceries. Parking was easy. The cons: The bed was uncomfortable for my wife, she kept tossing and turning. The flat sheet was a weird sheet/thin comforter combo which wasn't tucked in properly and was uncomfortable after a few hours. The room thermostat did not work as programmed. We set it for 66 to sleep but when we woke up groggy at 3, it had only gone down to 71. We turned it off and on, plus used the fan feature, no difference. The room vent is located by the kitchen, not the bed, so keep that in mind. The bathroom door slides, is heavy and does not have a true handle as it can retract fully in the wall. Based on that lack of handle, it was occasionally difficult to close and open. Due to the time, we did not want to try to switch rooms as we had to leave for a family obligation in a few hours in the morning. To the hotel's credit, they reached out immediately after I did an internal survey. They said to not hesitate to contact the front desk as it's staffed 24 hours. After being an extended stayer/guest, who has tried to stay away from folks and walk with my fur baby, there's management issues that needs to handled. First and foremost, there needs to be two people on the front desk after hours. The individuals that tend to have this particular shift-time should not be alone and need property support give the eclectic individuals that check-in and out of this Hilton owned property. I could share much more, which I will do once I check-out. However, this review should be an initial preview of what to expect if you are looking for a short, mid and/or long-term stay.

I always stay at this property several times before and other Residence Inns and this was by far the worst as far as cleanliness goes. Again stay was amazing and super helpful. I stayed 3 nights and received 20,000 points for this issue which doesn't even equate to a full nights stay at this property. Super disappointed and won't be returning here. Upon arrival, no staff was present at the front desk. When someone finally appeared, they failed to follow standard check-in procedures, including not requesting a credit card for incidentals, which is customary at Marriott properties. After three days, at the time of checkout, I was suddenly stopped by staff and treated as though I had done something wrong, despite the oversight being entirely on their end. I was then asked to place my card on hold for incidentals on the day of checkout, rather than at check-in. Weeks later, I discovered that $596.81 was charged to my card, even though the entire stay had already been paid for using Marriott points. This charge was not authorized as a room payment and was never clearly explained. As a result, I am now disputing the charge with my bank, and the process has taken weeks to resolve. While the physical stay itself was nice, the lack of professionalism, poor front desk management, and unresolved billing practices are unacceptable. Being treated like a criminal for an internal staff error, followed by an unexplained charge, has completely damaged my trust in this location. I strongly recommend that management review staff training, check-in protocols, and billing controls to prevent this from happening to future guests. This hotels charged me for the entire stay which is very disturbing to the highest extent. When I called the representative at the front said, "Nothing was taken out and I needed to call my bank." Returning around 6:15 pm nothing was done and the front desk person handed me a large black trash bag and told to collect the trash from my cans and leave the bag in the hall. Their professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness made me feel like a valued guest, not just another check-in. What really blew me away, though, was the condition of the hotel--it was immaculate. I genuinely thought it was a brand-new property until Oladipupo casually mentioned that it's actually been around for seven years. You would never guess it. The cleanliness, modern decor, and attention to detail are beyond impressive. I am only giving four stars because when we booked directly through the Hilton website we were not informed about limited pool hours. When we checked in we were informed that on weekdays the pool was only open 3pm-9pm, and the weekend only had limited hours as well. On the evening of 7/7 our family was swimming and it was sprinkling rain. We didn't think much of it, nor did the lifeguard that was at the outdoor pool. On 7/9 we attempted to swim at approximately 6:30/7:00pm after the rain had cleared and there was blue skies and sunshine. The pool was closed and locked. We were told that the lifeguard had been sent home and that the pool was closed for the night. This really disappointed us and our kids. This morning at check out I spoke with the manager, Charles. Charles was very understanding and was a great representative for the hotel and brand. He stated that laws in the county require that they shall have a lifeguard on duty when there are people swimming in the pool, and they have been trying for two years to obtain a waiver from the county to be able to open the pool without a lifeguard due to difficulty staffing that position. After Charles explained this to me it made more sense, and I better understood why the pool hours were limited. Charles helped me to understand and made situation right. Charles stated that he will attempt to have the limited pool hour information put on the Hilton website as well. I would recommend this location for families visiting the Washington DC area!

From its broken toilet and prehistoric AC Unit to cigarette burned bedspreads, my room was something right out of a Martin Scorsese film. I quickly took an inventory of the items in the room that broken and poorly repaired, and realized that not only was this a setting for a mob hit, but a comedy as well: The AC unit had an extension cord running into the bathroom and would cut off if you turned the bathroom light off. The wooden flooring was missing a large chunk. The refrigerator leaked and stopped working mid-stay The front curtain was a bedsheet, allowing streetlight to cascade in. Cigarette burns on bedsheets Missing towel rack Missing handle on toilet, replaced with an old phone charging cable. A somewhat sketchy route 1 area, reminiscent of the movie Barfly or Mean Streets... ok, maybe not quite that bad, but you get the idea. With all this in mind, I was at first baffled as to how this place still had a 3.5 rating until I checked the dates of its reviews. It seems that 7 to 9 years ago it racked a number of 5 star reviews, with customers using words such as charming, quaint, and love. I can only surmise that it must have changed ownership and fell into disrepair. However, it is not all bad news. I did find some good things that saved this place from the abyss 1 star hood. The people working the front desk were nice and tried to help you out. It was clean. It didn't have any bedbugs. And finally, I wasn't murdered. All that being said I hold no malice for this wounded soldier of a motel.
