Le Boxeur Gym - Big Fred is waiting to be your trainer!

I did my research on boxing gyms, reading reviews and websites, and I will definitely say that I…read moremade the BEST choice by selecting Le Boxeur Gym. For the record, I'm from Houston and was visiting NOLA for a week. Additionally, I'm in my mid-40s, not as fit and trim as I once was, and wanted to take private lessons with someone who had years of experience. I've had some prior boxing experience, but had been 10+ years. I decided to train with Matt ('The Coach') because I wanted to focus on boxing technique, endurance and strength; Again, I made the best choice. Matt is one of the most intuitive people I've trained with. In about 5 to 10 minutes he knew everything from my personality to my taste in music. He has such a good sense/read of the person he is training, and of what they're capable, and oh man does he push you without using what I call shame tactics. These are the qualities to look for in a trainer because he will customize based off of your strengths and weaknesses. I trained with Matt for three days only, and while the warm-up was the same, everything the last 50-minutes was a surprise. Training with him makes one realize why boxing is called the "sweet science"; plus he's super smart, and a good conversationalist. The gym itself is pretty raw, meaning no A/C; however, it has everything you need to box (different types of bags, ring, etc.) and to train in boxing (weighted gloves, dumbbells, etc.). My recommendation is just go and train, with either Matt or Fred. I met Fred, the boxer, who looks intimidating, but is a friendly and approachable guy. I've already told a couple of friends who live in NOLA about my experience, and I plan on training here again when I return in October. This is an amazing opportunity (and price) for the training and experience they offer.

I'm heading into Year 2 at #crossfitfullboresouth and couldn't be happier. I turn 65 in July and…read morestarted cross fit 5 years ago. Prior to crossfit I was working out 3 days a week doing a boot camp workout, so when that ended and I decided to try crossfit I thought I was in semi good shape. Haha, what an eye opener. Yes , I had heard the CrossFit horror stories but was willing to give it a try. I started at a different gym and they were awesome and helped me to get going. That gym closed 2 years ago and I and many of the other members of our CrossFit family found Crossfit Full Bore South. This is such a great place! My crossfit family has grown with the coaches and members. This is such a great place. The coaches are amazing, they work with you, they never judge you if you can't do all of the moves in a workout. They work with you to help you do the best you can within your abilities. The goal is to be healthy and improve your life, not get injured and no longer be able to workout. I work out with men and women of all ages, (I could be the Mother of most of them)and there is never any competition to be better than you. Everyone supports each other. I do my best to go to CrossFit 4 times a week. The workouts are tough and there are times I think I just can't make it, but a put a goal in front of me and charge forward. It feels great when I complete my workout. Never doubt yourself, Crossfit is an attainable goal and the coaches, owners and members of #crossfitfullboresouth are the greatest. Thank you all.

There's ample street parking around, so accessing the location was easy for me even though I don't live in the area. The space was clean and well staffed. Great vibe when I walked in - from the music, staff, and members it just felt comfortable. I was greeted by someone at the front desk who checked me in, and then a nice guy walked me around to explain everything. There is a bathroom with two stalls and also a shower. Cubicles for belongings are in the main area. They have a small, yet plentiful retail section with gloves, wraps, clothes, bags, heart monitors, etc. They have difference membership options from x classes per month to unlimited, so you get a range of prices that are to be expected for that area. While we were waiting for class to begin the owners were walking around introducing themselves to everyone. After class they along with the instructors made sure to walk around to everyone individually to check in with them. The classes are circuit style training with a set number of stations including varying bags, ropes, free weights, row machines, and treadmills. The class that day was 45 mins including warmup, 3 mins in each station (I think 8?) and cool down. Most of the classes on the schedule look like they're 45 mins which is great for a downtown location when you need to truly be in and out in an hour. I don't know if this standard, but there were at least three instructors walking around during the class - one with a headset teaching, and the other two walking around providing support and additional one-on-one attention to each participant. The two guys walking around both seemed extremely knowledgeable and supportive, and kept each person's alignment/safety in mind. Each station has a TV that shows the moves as well so if you can't see the instructor, you can still follow the TV for instruction. Since they just opened there were quite a few people that hadn't ever been before mixed in with people that had definitely done this a time or two; overall everyone was really nice and supportive of each other. Great workout in a fun environment!
