This is an excellent facility with a local sourced menu. They have a great children's play area inside as well as a great play park outdoors. The cafe is also adjacent to Worcester woods, fantastic for short or long walks. read more

Premier Inn

I'm going to give this 5 stars for being a great Premier Inn, not for the grade of hotel…read more It's brand new, built by the river next to the Worcester County Cricket ground, which on my visit was completely underwater, as you can see in the picture! Rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable with all the usual facilities that you would expect from a Premier Inn - en suite bathroom, large TV, hairdryer, tea & coffee facilities (no biscuits though), choice of pillows for the bed, and 30 minutes free Wi-Fi. Minimal, but all you need for a good night's sleep - in fact, they do say that they will refund your money if you don't sleep properly. I was tempted to put this to the test as I didn't really get back to sleep after being woken up by the room upstairs returning at 1.30am, but that's not the fault of the hotel so it would have been churlish of me to complain. The check-in has two automated desks similar to ATMs or airline check-ins that are very easy to use, although there was a very helpful and friendly staff member on duty as well to help guide you through the process if needed. They also reassured me that the night watchman would keep an eye on the car in the car park and wake me up if the rising flood waters, which were already covering a third of the car park, threatened to engulf it. The bar and restaurant is in the building, and the staff both at the bar and at breakfast could not have been more helpful and friendly. I didn't eat the evening meal in the bar, but the menu looked OK and reasonably priced. Had I not had a prior engagement I would have eaten here quite happily. As usual at Premier, breakfast is extra but it's worth buying one as you can eat all you want from the buffet. There was a good choice of hot food to order, including vegetarian sausages (yay!). This might be because the place is new and they're trying to make a good impression (it worked!), but I hope it lasts, as this is a very convenient location close to the city centre when visiting Worcester.

Maid knocked on my door at 8.45 on the Saturday morning which I thought was a bit early! Drinks were stupidly expensive and not a massive choice. I've heard good things about the breakfast but we didn't feel like paying £10 extra for that. I seem to be posting a lot of negatives but I thought the staff were great and would happily stay here again for a night.
Our stay here at the Whitehouse was enjoyable…read more The room was booked as a special offer and we were mightily surprised at the massive size of it. For 85GBP we got a room with two double beds, two TVs and a sitting room suite! The room also had the other usuals, iron, hair dryer, kettle etc The bathroom was lovely too, bath is big enough for a comfortable soak and the shower had amazing pressure. I would go back here just for the bathroom! Overall the hotel decor was slightly dated and sometimes a little worn and torn in spots. But it was clean. A few things of note though: In the wall at the head of the bed we used there seems to be pipes and these creaked a fair amount. It didn't keep me awake, but I found it very annoying when I was snoozing after I woke up! On Sunday morning at about 1100 there was a knock on the door by two hotel staff members to ask if we were checking out today and if they could take the sitting room chairs. I said yes we were checking out today, but asked wasn't check out not until 1200? I was told that this was fine, that they just wanted to check to see if we were checking out today and so they would know that they could take the chairs later on in the day. Surely they could have checked their own records to find out that we had only booked the room for one night? I just thought this was very odd and wonder was there another reason for their query. Also regarding the carpark, because the website said there was limited free parking, my partner booked a reserved parking space at cost of 12GBP when making the reservation. Afterwards he emailed the hotel to ask if there was any particular parking space he should take when we arrive, but he heard nothing back. So we took the first available space. The receptionist then explained, with an annoyed tone to her voice, that we should have taken the space we were assigned. But she then went onto say that she will release the reserved space we booked and that the space we did take would be free. Not surprisingly the charge of 12GBP for reserving the carpark space was not removed from the bill. Our advice is to not reserve a carpark space and to take a chance on getting a free space.

An ancient old Inn it may be but it's been well updated in the important areas so that it is not simply well placed but also well worth staying at. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, the general amenities good. Breakfast is certainly as good as you'll get in most well-thought-of hotels and other meals, if perhaps from a rather limited menu, are, nonetheless, very acceptable; they also have a quite decent wine list. The staff are friendly and efficient and the beer's ok too. All in all, would I recommend 'Ye Olde Talbot' to a good friend ? Most certainly, but try to book through an agency where you'll get a price that's much better than the headline rates. If the star rating allowed it, I'd probably go to 3 to 3, but not quite to 4. ps. they have no parking of their own but, at August 2011, have an arrangement with the NCP carpark next door for £6 per day.

You've been looking around all the nice shops and visited a few of the sights, and now you feel like a nice relaxing drink to unwind. You could do a LOT worse than visiting the Diglis House Hotel. Just a few minutes walk from the town centre, and with a lovely long beer garden, set right on the bank of the river severn, there are very few places that offer such a pleasant way to while away an hour or so. The beer is great. The food is lovely (if a little pricey in some areas) and the atmosphere is fantastic - you won't find any drunken louts at The Diglis, just a good crowd of people. Dogs are welcome and water bowls are available should you decide to bring Fido along with you. There is also free WiFi access, although you may struggle to get online if you're sat towards the far end of the beer garden. All in all, a fantastic place for a pint (or two, or three)..!
