So pulled up into the car park, two degrees outside and 'are we human or are we dancer' coming out of the radio as I turned off the engine. First duty was into a nearby supermarket for a soft white bread pan. When it's fish n chips it has to be tea, bread and lots of butter. A good sprinkling of salt on the fish n chips too. Carbs, animal fats and hardly a healthy calorie in sight. So into the chip shop to a friendly welcome from a man, certainly didn't look like Paula but it's a funny old world so I thought better than to ask. Two fish and chips please (or as we used to say: two fish suppers) £11.60 was required. I checked it was cod and he almost seemed taken aback at my question - he said, 'of course'. I waited a bit pleased that the food was being cooked to order. The portions of cod were huge, with fresh, white chunky and skinless meat. If you aren't sure how fresh cod tastes try it here as it's very fresh. I thought each chip portion was a tad mean but once home and in the plate it was generous enough. The food is cooked in beef dripping. There is no substitute good enough, groundnut, peanut, rapeseed, olive, corn oils none come close. The batter was towards thin and I like that, and to be fair the food sat in a take out bag until I got home and put out the plates and do on. Despite this the food was excellent, perfectly good food and still quite warm. A chip buttie was a must. Now I've eaten some of the finest foods on earth but I gotta tell ya the taste of a white soft pan bread chip buttie with a bit of salt and a generous slap of butter is wonderful made all the better with hot tea. The glowing reviews are right, it's a great place. The next time I want very good fish & chips I know where to go. Maybe next time I'll sit in and have it at its very best. Who knows now that oil prices have fallen the prices here should drop too.

But i have to admit HANDS DOWN this is my favorite place in the world to eat fish and chips. The twin husband and wife team that run this restaurant are extremely friendly and welcoming people. Its a small place that has several sit down tables to dine in. The fish and chips is one you have to try for yourself but for me its a place i crave al year long and a must visit spot when i return to Ireland. If you ever find yourself in the area please visit pipers and when done take a quick stroll next door and have a few pints at The Brooke Irish Pub.

The deal was this chicken meal, chicken fried rice, chicken curry, a tub of curry sauce, cheap and unpleasant, pre prepared prawn crackers and a small portion of chips. First thing I am going to say is the staff are great, there were 3 working when I went in and they seemed to be running a tight ship, each person had their job and they were performing their jobs to perfection. I asked if they took debit card but unfortunately they didn't. The chap working said I could place my order and go to the ATM further up the road and by the time I got back my food would be ready. He wasn't wrong because I came back to the shop just in time to answer the all important question, 'Do you want salt and vinegar?' The food itself was good, although not mind blowing. There's plenty of competition in this area for fish and chips so Georgia's always had a lot to live up to. I got a 'Cod Supper' - I got loads of chips (too many) but the fish portion wasn't huge although it was fried to perfection. It could be worse we could have been at the annual dog meat festival in Yulin, Guangxi, China (I've posted a photo for those with strong stomachs and apologies for it.) Anyway back to Mc D's. We were passing here and we needed something to eat, so it was convenient. Also having called into another Mc D's in Wexford a few weeks ago en-route to Padstow, Cornwall (only place open at 7am) we got a coupon - 8 euro for a medium meal - this case Big Mac, no cheese and no Mac sauce with extra onion and a latte not a soft drink - and a hamburger happy meal with a bag of mango slices and a small pack of raisins. We added 2 apple pies so sterling total about £6.80. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food cooked to order because of the Big Mac without cheese and Mac sauce so we took a seat and the food was brought to us. But but I'm scoring this place well down from 4 to 2 star as the disabled loo door is almost impossible to open and impossible to close. I tried to help a disabled chap open the door wide enough and I could barely shift it and I'm a powerful 6' 3' so very far away from being acceptable. Lousy management again. No shortage of lousy managers and sadly miserable owners about. Oh and Guangxi produces over 80% of the world's star anise so it has something going for it.
