Im sure no one can blame me. When you walk into this little restaurant, you are walking up to a counter and ordering your dinner. They have 14 varieties of chips, priced from £2.20 (small chips)up to £4.60 (taco chips with bolognese and cheese). There are four varieties of fish (i got the fresh battered haddock at £3.60) and fries and gravy for £3.40). The fish and chips were delicious. The gravy was bland (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). The serving was extremely generous. This isnt the best fish and chips I ever had, but I would put it easily in the top 3.

First duty was into a nearby supermarket for a soft white bread pan. When it's fish n chips it has to be tea, bread and lots of butter. A good sprinkling of salt on the fish n chips too. Carbs, animal fats and hardly a healthy calorie in sight. So into the chip shop to a friendly welcome from a man, certainly didn't look like Paula but it's a funny old world so I thought better than to ask. Two fish and chips please (or as we used to say: two fish suppers) £11.60 was required. I checked it was cod and he almost seemed taken aback at my question - he said, 'of course'. I waited a bit pleased that the food was being cooked to order. The portions of cod were huge, with fresh, white chunky and skinless meat. If you aren't sure how fresh cod tastes try it here as it's very fresh. I thought each chip portion was a tad mean but once home and in the plate it was generous enough. The food is cooked in beef dripping. There is no substitute good enough, groundnut, peanut, rapeseed, olive, corn oils none come close. The batter was towards thin and I like that, and to be fair the food sat in a take out bag until I got home and put out the plates and do on. Despite this the food was excellent, perfectly good food and still quite warm. A chip buttie was a must. Now I've eaten some of the finest foods on earth but I gotta tell ya the taste of a white soft pan bread chip buttie with a bit of salt and a generous slap of butter is wonderful made all the better with hot tea. The glowing reviews are right, it's a great place. The next time I want very good fish & chips I know where to go. Maybe next time I'll sit in and have it at its very best. Who knows now that oil prices have fallen the prices here should drop too.

The cod was pre cooked and not cooked to order from fresh, cooking to order might be an idea when not busy. The chips were made from new potatoes. The cod was very fresh and really chunky, almost perfect for me, but I would prefer a lighter batter. The owner is Italian and I'm around long enough to remember the Italian families that called this town home in the 1960's like the Maloccas and the wonderful Scappaticci family, Frederico, Lily and Umberto. So I imagine he could produce a lighter batter easily. The chips too were perfectly cooked. The guy took time to cook the food just right and he drained off the food a while after it came out of the fryer. Sure beats the fast food burger places by a very long way.

The service here is warm and friendly, and you are always served promptly despite how busy it gets at times. The chips out of here are unbeliable.They are crisp and moreish to the ultimate, and the rest of the options here are delicious and reasonably priced. They do kebabs, southern fried chicken boxes, succulent burgers, crisp chicken goujons and lovely battered cods. Everything is just so well cooked and packed with flavour. I come here all the time and it wipes the floor with the vast majority of Belfast chip shops. They also do a delivery service on a Friday and Saturday night so you are never unable to get your delicious fix of Quinn's. One word summary? We just happened to be passing by too about a week later and also decided to give it a go. So we got a fish & chips - cod of course - and the food was top notch. The batter was light and crisp and not greasy. The cod was Persil white, moist and chunky. It was a good portion too. The chips were perfectly cooked too exactly as they should be. The meal was £5. Now there was a downside as I was not offered salt or vinegar. Imagine fish & chips without salt and vinegar. I didn't see either about so while I would ordinarily knock a star off for such howlers I'm not going to because the quality of food and portion size for a fiver is a fair deal and it's only right to be fair right back but I would recommend they invest in salt and vinegar. Finally, as I waited for my meal the guy behind the counter was making what looked like pizza bases and firing them into an oven. They came out like a dinner plate sized cross between a nan bread and a pitta bread and more toward pitta. These were the base for chicken and lamb kebabs and this type of food is just so appealing when it's fresh and good.

This out of town fish & chip shop is here almost a year and a half…read more It's located in the same location as a fuel station and a well stocked Spar mini supermarket. A cod & chip is £6.40. The cod was really fresh, but it was a thin piece of fish for the price (£4). The batter is good and light, thankfully it isn't greasy, but it's not great. Worst of all the batter doesn't stay crisp for very long which is essential (the whole idea of batter is not just to coat but to be a light, crisp shell) so it spoiled our enjoyment of the food, so maybe the batter needs some experimental trials as crispy batter would make it great. A portion of french fried onions is £2 and they are darn good. They stayed crispy a bit longer than the fish. Staff are a friendly bunch. Prices are fine, service was prompt and next time we'll eat in the carpark to have crispy batter.
