We have done well over 40-50 escape rooms in our lives. We travel and instantly find an escape room. Sometimes we do multiple in one day. We tried the Titanic room and was blown away by the amount of detail that was put into the room. Compared to details and flow of other rooms we have done this one was for sure at the top of the list. Our entire group loved it. As avid escape room nerds, it is saying something to have the memorable ones such as this stick out in the vast list of those we have done before. Everything placed in the room made sense and all puzzles were methodical and linked somehow to one another which escape rooms that tend to be good do. The puzzles that were put into the room were thought out well, and able to be worked on by our entire group of various ages. The theme was great and the room was gorgeous. Truly impressive when you first walk into it. The owner is very friendly and really made the experience fun and memorable. I highly reccomend this room, and we look forward to going back to do their others. read more

In case you don't read this review in full, let me front load the important thing: DON'T GO HERE! With that out of the way let me say that Madblood's Manor is really not a very good room at all but doing a quick search shows that it has really good reviews. So what gives? Why am I flying in the face of all those great Yelp reviews? There's a meta discussion that we've been having lately about adequately rating escape rooms and why I feel the need to be a little more harsh than the average reviewer. In truth, I think a lot of escape rooms have inflated reviews because a lot of the time the person reviewing the room has never done a room before. Even bad escape rooms offer a unique experience that will likely leave first timers in a state of awe and feeling satisfied. Without context it's hard to know a good room from a bad room, and if you're a first timer you may not necessarily be giving the room a five star so much as just the experience of doing escape rooms in general a five star. You have to do good rooms and bad rooms to tell them apart, and let's not have any confusion here, Madblood's Manor is a bad room. What makes it a bad room? Almost everything. Aesthetically the room is uninspired at best. It's actually not a vote of confidence that the most interesting part of the room was a little sub room that you are never actually allowed to enter. You spend much of this game looking into a far more interesting looking room than you currently inhabit. Beyond that it's pretty bog standard spooky house which has been done to death, and better. And while the look of the room isn't horrible, the puzzles really are. In this one room we had two order of operation math puzzles. This is about as uninspired and lazy as puzzle design gets. When we talked to the game master about it after the room was finished, he admitted that the room designers have one math problem in every room they have and they use them to pad out the length and difficulty of their rooms. If you're willing to look beyond that major sin, the rest of the puzzles aren't much better, with one puzzle being of the same type and difficulty as a common puzzle our youngest daughter is given at school by her teacher as a brain break. I mean, the only way it could have been worse is if they just went ahead and put a sudoku puzzle book in the room and called it a day. They couldn't even get the final puzzle right. In many of the best escape rooms, there should be a buildup to one big great puzzle that shows off the designer's creativity and ties the game to the story of the room. But in no room have I been so disappointed in the final puzzle. Oh there's a lot of fanfare for completing it, and I'll give a little credit here, they do a pretty cool ending reward. But if I'm being honest I'd rather they saved the effort they put into the final reward and instead used it on some decent puzzles. If this is your first escape room, there's a good chance you'll enjoy it but that's because escape rooms in general are awesome. They're a different form of entertainment compared to anything else you've done before. But if you are looking into doing your first room, don't choose this one. There are so many more rooms out there with more creativity and passion and definitely more deserving of your money. read more

8/30/18 We reigned victorious in our ability to escape The Titanic with around three minutes left to go. Though it was not an easy task, my group did great figuring out the clues. My help was so poor, they probably should have locked me in the parlor to go down with the ship. But I am proud to say that my attention to one clue opened a lock. I sat down after that. Then I had fun watching them play. I was very proud of the sharp minds, focus and attention to detail that it took for the gang to figure out the mysteries behind the locks through very clever clues. I have to admit, it was a lot of fun. They have several game rooms to choose from that look quite interesting! I would go back again despite my senior-like brain activity to solve the mysteries. I would highly recommend this location for people who are adventurous and looking for a thrilling challenge. It's a game room that is fun for all ages to participate together; whether it's friends hanging out or family hanging out. The facility manager was very friendly and cordially invited us to come back again to try our luck at escaping a different room. We couldn't see him watching, but he could see us. This was my second time experiencing their rooms. I've done their titanic room when they had first opened their business. We escaped it in 30minutes or slightly less in that room. This time we did the pirate's treasure room. I was extremely impressed in how they have improved with the complexity of their clues, as well as the continuity with the theme. The pirate's room is a lot smaller than the Titanic Room but the max of 6 people works. The props were quality and I won't give any hints but the room is linear. I have mixed feelings in linear rooms because if you get stumped- you can totally screw yourself over. They have no limits on the amount of hints you ask, we didn't use ours often, but more for clarification if we were on the right track. This room definitely required teamwork to solve the clues- you'll see why. We escaped with 5 minutes and 33 seconds to spare. Not the best record time for that room, but definitely an escape! read more

Came here with my Nephew and a few friends. So much fun. We did the pirate room which is one of their smaller rooms. I enjoyed the clues and the puzzles. They all made sense and occurred in sequence which I like. The staff was very friendly, helpful and positive. It was my nephew's first escape room and he really enjoyed it. I came here with my family on vacation. We did the Dr. Madblood escape room which is one of the harder rooms. The premise is simple, you are given clues to solve which in turn lead you to other clues which ultimately culminate in a completion of the quest. It really is fun! We went with a group of six (three of us were escape room newbies, but the other half had attempted at least one room before) and had a great time! The staff was friendly and the room (Titanic themed) was well-decorated, clean, and full of props & clues--you could tell that the workers cared about the presentation and appearance of the room. Only criticism was that the room was super linear. Although this proved useful to those in our group who had never attempted a room before (it makes the problems easier to solve), it somewhat lacked in complexity. Came to this for a fun girls weekend and could not have had a better time. Love the people that work here and the games are fun and tricky. We went to countdown escape room as a double date and it was a first time to an escape room for all of us. We loved it! The room had so many details, and definitely made us think. The worker was available and attentive - we would work for a few minutes and if we really got stuck, gave us subtle clues for directions (but didn't just give us answers.) we are excited to go back and try one of the other rooms; wonderful how many options to pick from. I have tried other escape rooms and this is by far my favorite! The big difference is that they don't shove you in a room with strangers. You play with your group, which is a better experience. It is more personal, better teamwork and less awkwardness or rudeness from strangers. The clues are well thought out and cleverly placed. The rooms are decorated enough so that it isn't obvious what is important- lots of distractions, things that you wouldn't think are important but are, and a good flow. The particular room we were in had costumes you could find and dress up in to fit the theme, which was a nice tough. The staff watch and listen and are happy to give a clue if you need it, but otherwise let you do your thing. I highly recommend this place and will be back to experience the other rooms! read more

It's a pretty small place and a small staff, the lady that helped us was super friendly. I did the "Titanic" escape room, which was cool cause it was based off of a classic movie. Escape rooms in general are fun, I just didn't give it 5 stars because it wasn't the best one I've been to and one of my friends that went with me agreed. (She's also been to a few other ones in DC area) It wasn't bad, but I've been to other ones that I've enjoyed more. Personally, I like the type of rooms with some of clues that are hidden in plain sight but you don't know it until you reach a certain point. They told us not to move any of the furniture and that none of the wall decorations, rug, curtains, or fireplace has clues on/in them. For some of my friends it was their first escape room and they really enjoyed it though. It's hard reviewing an escape room because it wasn't bad at all and it was still fun/challenging, its just with so many options in the area now I have to say it wasn't my favorite. I know I sound kinda picky, but if all the escape rooms in the area are about $25 a person it's easy to compare. read more
