This place has been on my radar for a while and when I saw they were part of Geneva Restaurant Week, I had to go. We made reservations for 530pm on a Thursday night with our friends. We were seated immediately but it took a while for our waitress (Lauren) to take our drink order. They have a nice selection of wines and beers. We all ordered off their Restaurant Week menu but when my wife mentioned she is Gluten Free ,she was told they could no substitutions because they were too busy. Basically the server had no suggestions. After we all placed our orders,we waited over an hour to get our appetizer and salad. The server kept saying the kitchen was backed up so she gave us a complimentary round of drinks. The appetizer and salad came on the same plate which was strange but the portions are definitely small probably because they were part of the Restaurant Week menu The wrapped shrimp were tasty and the wedge salad was your basic wedge salad. I asked for salt and pepper and again it took a while to get it and the pepper grinder did not work. My wife had the Risotto with shrimp and asparagus and tasted very bland. I had the Wrapped Filet which was small in size and cooked more medium than medium well as I requested . The desserts were the best... Tiramisu and Pistachio Gelato even tho they put cookies on top of the Gelato which have Gluten. I was really torn in how to rate this restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First disappointment was our table was next to the door even with advanced reservations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Before we could ask to be moved the entire place was packed so let that one slide.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our friends arrived a few minutes after us and the server snipped how nice it was for them to show up as she kept flicking her long bangs out of her face as she leaned over the table to hear us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They get an F for acoustics. It was so loud in there we couldn't be heard without shouting[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our first course (and 2nd course-see pics) to arrive so apologies were made that the kitchen was backed up. We really didn't mind the wait because we were enjoying our friend's company. The saving grace was the quality of the food. Everything came out nicely presented, hot and delicious. The risotto lacked flavor and the pepper shaker was broken but the wrapped shrimp was heavenly. There were items I could choose that were obviously gluten free but when I tried to discuss this with the server she interrupted rudely saying no substitutions, too busy. The server at the next table turned his table and served another all while we were still waiting. Most under-rated restaurant in Geneva. Right by the train station with plenty of parking behind and a beautiful open layout. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Modern, warm decor perfect for a work lunch or date night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was there for a work lunch and our waiter was charming and had great timing. We were able to chat without interruption. The food came quickly and was fresh and delicious. Big portions and great prices, lingering around $20. I ordered the crab cake appetizer. It was served with a side salad and was the perfect size. My guests had sandwiches with side salad. Again, so good, so generously portioned. I genuinely can't wait to go back to try their bruschetta varieties (they had like 6 versions!) and other things on the menu. If I HAD to say something needed improvement it would be that the menu was very big and a bit overwhelming. It would be great if they held some things back and rotated them seasonally. I had a very disappointing experience with Cotto a Lenga-- that I feel is important to share. After dining there, I called the restaurant to share some feedback before posting a review -- hoping to handle things respectfully and directly. To my surprise and dismay, during that phone call, a staff member accused me of being intoxicated. I want to be very clear: I was not under the influence during the call or at any time. The accusation was completely false, inappropriate, and unprofessional. When I expressed how inappropriate and offensive the accusation was, the staff member told me to "get over it" because it had happened a week ago. This kind of dismissive and unprofessional response is unacceptable -- especially from a business in the hospitality industry. I reached out in good faith, and instead I was met with judgment, false accusations, and a lack of basic respect. I hope this feedback encourages the restaurant to reevaluate how they engage with guests -- particularly those who take the time to give constructive input. I believe hospitality should be rooted in respect -- even when guests are offering criticism. I hope this message encourages the restaurant to reflect on how they handle customer concerns going forward. They lost a loyal customer of 13 years. We came for the first time during restaurant week. The food was just OK. Bruschetta was "meh" salads were so-so. Pasta was decent. Nothing we would necessarily return for. Service was excellent but interesting. Everything arrived very prompt - drinks, food, refills. Yet the server continually came over apologeric thanking us for our patience. When we were looking for a restaurant nearby with homemade pasta, it was a little bit harder than I had expected. When we went go Cotta A Legna, it was late afternoon and the restaurant was pretty empty. The food that we received was absolutely the best Italian food I've ever eaten in my entire life. My wife ordered the grilled salmon and I ordered the restaurant week special. I had a shrimp wrapped bacon appetizer with Caesar salad, Risotto Marie More. Food was cooked to perfection and our server was prompt and professional. We finished the meal with cappuccino and tiramisu. I took my fiancée here to celebrate her birthday. I've heard a lot of great things about this place and decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint! It was our first time at the restaurant and we were immediately greeted and seated. We sat at one of the high top tables and it was a little wobbly. However, I couldn't tell if it was one of the people working or just a nice patron, but they added a bit of cardboard to the bottom of the table to stop the wobbling. We were a bit shocked because no restaurant ever does that! Tyler, our waiter, was amazing! He was very attentive and humorous, which made the experience all the more enjoyable! We ordered the fritto misto to start, which was very good! Light, crispy and the dip was full of flavor! The calamari was a little tough but that didn't affect how delicious the appetizer was. The shrimps were nice and plump and the cod pieces melted in your mouth! Next, we got a side harvest salad. We typically don't like a sweet salad, but it worked wonders with the saltiness of the goat cheese! The crisp onions gave everything a nice texture as well. As for the main entrees, it was a tough choice for me. I didn't know if I should have gone with the lobster pasta or the lamb chops. I decided the lamb chops with risotto and it was simply amazing! The lambs weren't over cooked, which I was afraid of. But it was cooked to perfection. My fiancée ordered the white margherita pizza and she absolutely loved it! It was super fresh and the dough wasn't too over cooked nor was it undercooked. She's not a huge fan of tomato sauce but loves pizza. So she was excited to see these sort of options. We finished the night with some amazing tiramisu! We will definitely be coming back to this place. First time here. My family of three was seated right away. We had the goat cheese appetizer, a beer and a martini. I had the lobster roll which wasn't a typical roll. It's a whole lobster tall on a hamburger bun with bacon. Favor was great but I think I prefer a traditional roll. My son had spaghetti and meatballs off the kids menu $7.50 great price and came with a drink. My husband had the chicken marsala. He lived it. They have a big menu. It was my 50th birthday. I rode my bike (alone) from Elmhurst to Geneva (25 miles) and wanted to rest over a light yet filling lunch where I can sit outside, take off (literally) my gym shoes, sit and enjoy the beautiful day without feeling rushed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved the large patio overlooking the Metra train station some 200 feet away, which is how I planned to return home with my bike.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The patio ambiance was relaxing, menu diverse, food delicious, and service impeccable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The host was welcoming, one waiter very attentive, and the second waiter, Matthew, particularly charming and engaging. I had the Grouper Salad $22 and a side of fries $6, plus two glasses of Prosecco $9. But, they charged me for only one glass of prosecco as a happy birthday gesture. 2nd time eating here and very pleased! Came with my mom and mother in law for lunch and we had a good time. Our waiter, Rosie, was super sweet and friendly. We split the arranchini trio - delicious!! My family loves this place, and I try to come where whenever I come home. My sister and I got a chance to come here the one day I was in town after returning from Provence, France. To our wonderful surprise they have a wonderful Rosé from Provence!! The food was delicious as always. Our staple item is the Fina pizza with olive oil, instead of red sauce. Then we opted for the fried calamari, shrimp, and cod. It had a wonderful giardiniera aioli! And a burrata! The only criticism I have is that burrata is so amazing all on its own. Cotto had the distinction of being a few 'firsts' for us, all of which were memorable. We've eaten at several downtown Geneva spots, including a little chicken place across the street. I was coming out of there with food recently and got into my car which was parked in front of Cotto. I looked into the window and saw people dining inside. That wouldn't be an abnormality in most instances, but at the moment Illinois was on indoor lockdown. Well..that was the law, at least. We were jonesing for a meal outside of our home and seeing as they served indoors, it got our attention. So we made our first trip in the other night. We love Italian food (who the hell doesn't) and found Cotto to be a far step above. My son and I went for the salmon and asparagus while my wife choose a prosciutto flatbread. Both, we're out-f**ing-standing. There were a ton of tasty choices on the menu and I didn't want to be sorry that I chose the salmon. No chance of that..I'd kill for another serving. Back to the indoor eating ban, the folks at Cotto were masked and respectful of distancing. Service is with a smile and terrific. I've been to Cotto a Legna several times now and I've always had good experiences. Lots of variety on the menu and various sizes of entrees and small plates. This location is nice because it has many options for adventurous eaters, but also a solid selection for those who are less adventurous. I've enjoyed all of the following items: Mussels, fried goat cheese, arancini, fig & prosciutto bruschetta, and several different pizzas. Several of my colleagues tried their other pizzas and pastas and really enjoy them. I've always found the service to be solid, the restaurant to be cute and clean (loved the outdoor space during Covid-19), and the cocktails to be delicious. I'll continue to enjoy this restaurant for our book club gatherings. read more

Service more distasteful than the food! If you are reading this, please save yourself time and just go to a different Italian restaurant downtown Geneva (GIA MIA, Villa Verone, Osteria Bigolaro, Livia, etc) or Old World Riganato further out. My husband and I had been to all other restaurants downtown Geneva, and wanted to venture out and try a new one. I'll tell l you this, there is a reason we have never been to Cotto A Legna before. My husband and I waited a half hour for our appetizer, however, the manager who stayed in the kitchen the whole night wrongly ignored our order of crab cakes. Our dinner was brought out to us before our appetizer, we clearly told the waitress that we no longer wanted the crab cakes because we wanted to eat our main dinner instead of our meals sitting under a heat lamp. About 5 mins into eating our meal, the waitress stopped by with our crab cakes and said the manager was going to give us the appetizer 50% off. Are you kidding me!? 1) We clearly said we didn't want the appetizer, the manager messed up ignoring our initial appetizer order, 2) Dumping off the appetizer and telling us we have to pay 50% of something we no longer wanted. My husband and I have both worked at restaurants, if you are going to dump food off at our table that we made clear we no longer wanted (KITCHEN ERROR) COMP 100%, NOT 50% of it. Such distastefulness for a restaurant downtown Geneva!!! Business must be bad to be such penny pinchers!! What further made our experience worse, was the general slowness of service. Waiting 10 mins to place our order, waiting 30 mins for our food, waiting another 30 mins to pay our bill (15 mins for the bill to be dropped off and another 15 mins for our credit card to be ran). It was a Monday night, pretty slow, two experienced waiters should have been able to handle it. My husband and I couldn't wait to run away from that place and never return, stuck waiting and struggling to make eye contact with the waitstaff for 30 mins to pay our bill was beyond torturous. read more

It's really too bad that I'm giving this rating since the food didn't ruin my experience, it was the service I received. I came on a weekday when it wasn't busy and it took 15 minutes to get seated, then another 15 minutes for someone to come around and offer drinks with the menu. At that point I wondered if they were just slow because of staffing issues, but no one else around me seemed to have any problems. After almost another hour of waiting, I asked the waiter what was causing the delay. Initially, I was told it was because of the lack of staff, but then he said there was an issue in the kitchen. I noticed that while this was happening to me, another family was waiting to be seated and had been there almost 20 minutes while there were four empty tables around me. It was certainly a very bizarre situation. I was eventually given my food after my complaint, but when he said he would bring eating utensils he never did. This was our first time for dinner. We had 2 other couples with us. Service by Amy was stellar. The place was really busy and understaffed but she took great care of us. All 6 of us had something different of off the menu. No one was disappointed with their choice. We dine together fairly often and choose different places. Wish I could give a review on the food. We made a reservation in advance for Saturday the 7th for 5 people at 6:15 for our mothers birthday. Imagine our surprise when we arrive and are told they are overbooked and there would be an additional wait of 40 minutes. We left a number to be called and an hour later there was still no call. I called the restaurant only to be asked "if your reservation was at 6:15 why are you calling now?" Another young man got on the phone and said it would still be 20-30 minutes and that they would call us. We ate dinner at another lovely restaurant and never did receive that phone call. I understand staffing challenges but saying you overbooked is kind of maddening especially when you never call to follow up with or even apologize to your customers. read more
