I have been taking my sweet little for baby, for daycare and overnight stays, to Cottage Kennel for the past 3 years. I had tried several other places, but did not find the kind of care for her that I feel she deserve. She is treated like one of the family there and is so excited everytime I mention to her that I am going to bring her there. Have to say I am so shocked at Reading a couple of the Yelp reviews that people, who have never used their services personally, nor have been inside the facility, have written. I am not quite sure what their motive is. My little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Daisy, is my sweet baby. I would never subject her to anything but the best. I did my research before bringing her there. And got a good look at the place before I made my decision. I wanted to make sure my little girl was treated like the princess she is. Omg so glad none of my babies have or will ever been kept here. Right behind the kennels is a 711 and from the parking lot you can hear sounds that are for sure terrorfying to say the least. Dogs barking all day all night, the barks sound hoarse and sickly and constant yelping.... Whats worse is from time to time you can hear things being hit against the kennels and people telling them to stfu stupid dogs followed by severe yelping and laughing...the fuck???? Place needs to be shut down and the staff subjected to the most horrifying experiences one can endure.... read more

I have used Cottage Kennels for over 10 years - both for my personal dogs and for the NorSled rescue dog overflow. The staff has gone over and above on innumerable occasions to ensure our dogs get the care they need. Nick and Devin in particular have provided outstanding service. I STRONGLY suggest you visit this place before you leave your animal. The website is very nice...and that it. I wanted to like this place as its very close to my house but after meeting the staff and watching the way one of the gentleman interacted with my dog we got out quicklly. I mentioned my dog was skittish around strangers and he dindt have a clue as he took the leash like he was going to be the dog whisperer. Of coarse she stiffened up and pulled away. There are no 0 stars so I have to give 1. I boarded my dog here, when we picked him up we found out he WASN'T THERE! Why? Because he had to have 2..yes 2 emergency surgeries. He was at sage vet , We NEVER got a call to tell us our dog had to be rushed to Sage to do surgery on him for a huge deep gash he got from this place. ...then he had to be taken back for a huge infection and swelling and had another surgery. We were told all of this by the vet, not this place. The vet also told us that he had his i jury for at least 1 1/2 days before they took him in. I can only imagine the suffering my dog endured. This is the worst boarding kennel...to never call us? To not monitor him after surgery? I would have come home from my trip. What's really sad is we had to put him asleep shortly after. Me and my sister had to attend a funeral out of town and had to arrange to have our dogs boarded at the last minute. My dogs have never been boarded before and I did everything that I could to avoid boarding them. I also attempted to make reservations at other facilities with fancier websites and seemingly fancier accommodations, but they were all booked. I was leery. I read the reviews and was even more leery. We dropped the dogs off and I was worried the entire time they were there. When we went to pick the puppies up, we were checked out by Nick. It helped that Nick is likeable and very accommodating. While checking us out, he gave me some feedback on my fur babies personalities, so I knew they interacted with them. We paid the fees, which were very reasonable. I put the babies in the car and examined every inch of my pups. They were fine and seemed pretty happy. I learned that my dogs don't require fancy pet penthouses. All they need is a lil' love and attention when away from home. We ended up boarded them again a short time later and we even used some of their grooming services, which again, was reasonably priced. I took one star off for the limited business hours. I do, however, understand that this is a small business. There are two brothers, Devin and Nick who are both on site 24hrs. The business also takes in rescues so supporting this business, also supports the care of the rescue doggies. So they are now pretty much my go to doggie boarder. read more

This place is the best. I have been coming here for years. They are so sweet and caring, and my dog is so happy to spend time with them. I would never take my dog anywhere else. They do such a good job a taking care of my dog. They treat my dog like she's so special, and they are always so thoughtful and kind to me as well. My dog is very shy and often has a difficult time trusting people, but Nick and Devon and Donna have gone above and beyond to earn her trust. Totally bogus. if you bring your pet here and expect to pick them up on a Sunday, be prepared to pay an additional day unless you originally dropped your dog off between 3-5:00p.m. How does that happen?? I dropped my pup off at 12:00p.m. on Saturday - their Saturday hours are 9:00a.m. to 1:00p;m. Their Sunday hours are ONLY 3:00-5:00p.m. So...When i went to pay for my dog's stay, I paid for TWO DAYS since there was no way to pick the dog up before 24 hours expired. So, when all was said and done, I had to pay two days worth of boarding for an actual 26 hour stay just because of their hours. This is not outlined on their website nor was it explained over the phone. I simply will not be going back nor will I ever recommend this place to anyone I know. Nor will the other people that were picking up their pets when I was there - I wasn't the only one caught in this cost trap. Ya feel me? read more

LOVE Cottage Kennel. My dog Molly was traumatized after being at Klub K9, and after 2 visits with Donna at this place, she was so much better and now loves to go when I travel. They are reasonable, clean and take good care of the dogs. I now have 2 dogs and they both are wagging their tails when they come and see Donna and her staff. Cottage Kennel not only runs a great business but does great things. I've boarded my dogs there when I go out of town, they do just fine. They're always in good shape and happy to see me. But more importantly, Donna helps out our rescue dogs and gives us a place to hand off dogs that's safe, clean and low stress for them. I've seen several other rescuers there over time so I know she's helping a lot of throw aways get to their new lives. Most recently we had a dog there that had an internal issue go very wrong. Donna spotted the issue immediately and her quick action saved his life. She knows dogs and I feel confident that if anything went sideways with one of my dogs she would get them to the vet right away and do her best to save their life too. I use Cottage Kennel every day to help me house rescue the huskies of Norsled. Nick and Devin are above and beyond helpful - especially in these very curtailed hours of business. They both go overboard to support me and the dogs - opening often after hours to let vetted dogs in or when a transport comes from a distance, providing advice, and wrangling for me. Norsled and I could not function with the superb TLC of Nick and Devin at Cottage. They really care about the dogs and it shows in every movement. I have been meaning to write to review for a while. I took my black lab mix to this kennel for 4 days. I didn't like that I wasn't able to see where he would be, or what kind of enclosure they had for him. I heard tons of dogs barking from the lobby of the place. 4 days after we picked him up I was at the Emergency Vet at 11:00 pm. He had a bad case of kennel cough. (he was vaccinated against it, but dogs can still contract it). When I called Donna to let her know, she had zero sympathy and basically said they are not responsible, so what did I want her to do. What I wanted was for her to at least act like she cared that my dog got sick at her kennel and ended up costing $200+. I wanted her to know, so that they could at least sanitize the areas they felt were at risk in the kennel, so that other dogs had less risk of getting kennel cough, and maybe an apology. I won't be taking my dog back there. read more

IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMALS, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THIS KENNEL!!! Firstly, I dropped off my healthy dog there for 2 weeks. It should have been 12 days but they make you pay an extra "day" because no dropoffs/pickups allowed on Sundays, even though their website says that they are "open" for 2 hours on Sundays. When I dropped my dog off, they would not let me see the facilities which made me a bit weary. Being that this was the first time I have used a kennel I thought this may be standard behavior so I let that slide. After returning back from holiday vacation 2 weeks later (really 12 days...) I arrived to my dog being 21 pounds underweight, with his rib and hip bones protruding from his body. My dog, who is normally an overly energetic dog, was literally making crying noises when I picked him up. He also had raw skin on his nose due to trying to open the kennel that they placed him in. I was alarmed at how lethargic and docile he was behaving and the cough that he had so I took him straight to the vet after I picked him up. The kennel swore that he ate all of his food and then some every day. HOWEVER, I DID NOT RECEIVE ONE PHONE CALL FROM THE KENNEL DURING THE BREAK ABOUT THE EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS! While at the vet, my dog proceeded to doze off and collapse multiple times. The vet started telling me that he may have cancer, so I proceed to have $1300 in tests to determine what was wrong with him. After all the X-rays and Ultrasounds, the vet finds nothing wrong with him. However, she is suspicious so she administers a drug test to him. HE TESTED POSITIVE FOR MARIJUANA!!!! When I confronted the kennel about this serious matter looking for an explanation, she refused to have normal conversation/listen to my concerns and it turned into a yelling match that will proceed in court. You would think that if you owned a business and a client drops off their loved one (i.e., kennel or day care) you would immediately call the client to let them know of any change in the health of the client!? Also after insisting on seeing their facilities, they would not let me see certain areas, and the areas where all the dogs were kept were outdoors. Which I was given no information that the dogs would be kept outdoors in the cold winter nights. RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN! read more

WARNING!!! WORST EVER!!!! DO NOT.... I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE (that is if you LOVE your baby as much as we do)!!! This is my first Yelp review ever. Cottage kennel made me ANGRY enough to write about our experience...We left our perfectly healthy, vaccinated, clean, sweet and tough American Bulldog here for ONE night (which by the way she charged us for 2 DAYS AND EXTRA FOR SUNDAY PICK UP.) When we picked him up he SMELLED like URINE AND FILTH!!!! It was down right nauseating!!! Our happy go lucky puppy was frightened, anxious and couldn't wait to get out of there! Within days he developed Kennel cough (by the way the owner makes you sign a waiver for it but forgets to verify their vaccines and yes, we know it's like the common cold for dogs but unsanitary conditions does not help prevent anything) and 1 week later our boy is in the emergency pet hospital with a fever of 106 and Pneumonia secondary to kennel cough due to this DIRTY AND DISGUSTING conditions of this kennel!!!! $1800 later for an overnight stay that included chest xrays, blood work, nebulizer treatments, IV fluids and antibiotics. The money is not the issue, to us he's worth so much more than any monetary amount he is OUR BABY BOY and this place was detrimental to his health and well being!!! I'm writing this in hopes that it will help keep another Dog and his/her family from enduring such an experience. We regret every day not looking into this place more and simply going by a friend's reccommendation. NEVER AGAIN will we be so trusting. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Also, terrible hours, and distressing to be charged a full extra day for a 2 hour excess that is actually mandated by THEIR schedule... Boarded our dog here for three nights, and picked her up only to find her feet, legs, and ears covered with a rash--she's never had this before. Noticed the smell of a bizarre chemical that had been applied to her fur, which was rubbing off on everything she touched. A good bath cured her of the smell, and within a couple days the rash disappeared, but it appears they are using some powerful cleaning chemicals... To top it off, she picked up a nasty kennel cough here (and she has bordatella vaccine!). Would not recommend this place, for the health of your dog! read more

I came across Cottage Kennels by accident, when I was looking to adopt a husky through Norsled. I met one that was so totally untrained that I could not take her home (I'm caring for my very frail mother), but I vowed to walk this dog and try to work with her. Donna is a wonder - she lets me drop by to pick up the girl for her walk, even when they're closed. This place is actually called Cottage Kennel. I just used them this past Thanksgiving holiday weekend. On the phone the woman I spoke with was very helpful and friendly, so I decided to just go with my gut instinct and board my little pit bull Deija. When I pulled into the driveway I noticed the building did look like a little cottage very cute and bright, and inside it was very clean. It did take a while for someone to get to me at the desk, but I understood everyone was trying to drop their dogs off it was the day before Thanksgiving and they were getting ready to close. The women at the desk were very attentive and respected my requests. Although we don't like to leave our little baby this was a great place too. They offer many services for the daily price! DO NOT bring your dogs here!! Ask to see the kennel they will be staying in when you drop them off too-we were not allowed to, and why?? But our trip was already planned so we had to go, and trust them with our baby girl...so so SO sad we did! We were told she would have a kennel with inside AND outside access, there were TONS of other dogs there when we dropped her off(lots of huskies for some weird reason idk) we payed for the biggest run they had being she's a very large Doberman and needs the space, we didn't see any free when we dropped her off so that sent some red flags up but again my husband made reservations and basically paid for our trip already so we felt compelled to leave her, I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right and our son was SO UPSET leaving her that an hour into our drive we turned around to go back and get our girl..well no one was there when we knocked, no one answered the phone either and it was 3pm!! We had to wait ALL NIGHT and well onto the next day to retrieve her and when we got her out she peed like I've never seen her pee before-a HUGE puddle! Like she didn't have access to go potty-she's very well behaved and won't go where she thinks is "inside" so they very obviously didn't take her out!! So sad that she even had to endure the night there!! If you insist on leaving your loved one here INSIST you see them in their allocated spot before you leave and that they show you they have outside time while there(we all have cell phones, it's easy to take a pic!) wish we would have...could have saved her the trauma and us the cost of a weekend getaway!! read more

This is my dogs' second stay in 6 months, and I have to say how reassured I am that he is at Cottage Kennels. I had an emergency that brought me to board him again. he has been there a few weeks and Donna always answers my e-mails or phone calls to reassure me how well he is doing. I boarded my Persian cat at cottage kennel for a month ..I left her advantage flea treatment and furminator brush. Not only did they not brush her one time ,as she was covered on every part of her body in mats. But she also had more fleas on her then I'd ever seen in her 14 years of being alive. It's taken me two weeks ,a flea dip ,flea bombing my house brushing her with a flea comb multiple times and shaving her from the neck to butt including stomache to get her comfortable again .I've never left a Yelp review for a business ,negative or positive but I'm furious about the treatment of my animal . read more

I have boarded my dogs at Cottage twice, 1 long term about 2 months. while it was frustrating having one of the dogs gone for so long I had no issues with the kennel and/or staff. Donna was great and really assisted in taking care of the Doberman for that period of time and was always open to calls and/or emails as I had just relocated from the Midwest. She came highly recommended by someone in Chicago as well as in the Bay area. The second boarding was for both of the guys and we had no complaints on the experience and both came back as we left them. Each time the Doberman came back he had lost weight. For those complaining about their dogs losing weight maybe they needed to lose weight. The Doberman was well over 100 pounds when he first stayed and by the time he came home was down to his ideal weight. I will continue to use Cottage/Donna and her staff to take care of our guys!!! read more
