Dr. Ackerman was nice, knowledgable, and efficient. A resident/fellow sees you first, and then reviews notes with the doctor who subsequently sees you briefly to discuss the treatment plan. One star off because they seem to always be running a little behind schedule, but overall a good experience and good medical care. Casting is quick and painless, and the technicians are friendly and make you feel comfortable. They validate parking - $2 cash only. If you're a Brown student/staff/faculty, take the university shuttle to RIH and just avoid parking altogether. The garage spaces are limited, and it can be a headache. In the waiting room, there's a picture signed by Stephen Gostkowski to keep you entertained.

I asked ALL of my different doctors (GP, endocrine, bariatric, etc...) and without fail, they all said that Dr. Shalvoy was *THE* guy in Rhode Island, and in TWO cases had performed procedures on the knees of my doctors! Why not go where the professionals go? I presented myself around the same time as Bethany, and yes the walk to the office was hard for a guy who couldn't walk. Dr. Shalvoy is the Chief of Orthopedics for Care New England, and was trying to see patients close to the hospital setting, but as Memorial was closing wings he was getting bounced around. Their subsequent spaces have been much more eye appealing, and 2 years after my replacements I am doing fantastic. I can't say enough about Dr. Shalvoy and his PA Richard Peloquin and Jessica Morse, and the support staff is great. They literally gave me my life back. I went from walker/wheelchair to doing 5K's. I drove 30 minutes through bridge traffic for my daughter's scheduled appointment, only to be greeted by an unfriendly front-desk employee whose demeanor immediately made me feel like she was bothered by my presence. She told me my daughter's referral couldn't be used and cancelled her appointment without even verifying the information. I called Highbar and was initially told her referral was still valid. The representative put me on hold for over 10 minutes while trying to contact the Providence office. She came back saying she couldn't reach anyone, but then changed what she originally told me and said I needed to contact my insurance about getting a new referral. I called my insurance, and they confirmed the referral was valid, just as Highbar had originally told me when the appointment was made. I tried calling Highbar back three times with no answer. When I finally called Providence directly, suddenly the same employee who had turned us away said she could reschedule my daughter using the exact same referral. Beyond the misinformation, her demeanor toward me was dismissive and condescending, and the interaction genuinely left me feeling discriminated against. I told her this directly on the phone, and she apologized multiple times. What makes this more concerning is reading other reviews. Another patient reported being given incorrect insurance information by this location, and another reviewer described an experience they also perceived as discriminatory. I considered contacting corporate or management, but seeing similar complaints from years ago that resemble what I experienced today does not give me much confidence that these concerns are being addressed. Patients shouldn't lose appointments because staff provide incorrect information, nor should anyone leave a healthcare facility feeling discriminated against. Highbar needs to address the training and treatment of patients at this location
