Okay, so it's a big warehouse with a 'stack em high, sell em cheap' philosophy, but sadly this often equates into you paying just as much or more on some goods once you've added the VAT on. There is a bit of a scatalogical layout of items; tv and hifi near to the entrance, fresh produce to the rear with dried foodstuffs to the far side. The rest is a bit higgedly piggedly with plants rubbing shoulders with vacuum cleaners and storage boxes alongside small electricals. If you're thinking of buying something electrical, you need to do your research first to make sure that the prices here are really such the bargain they appear to be, as it's easy to find cheaper elsewhere. This said, you can get some good bargains in the food sections, especially on boxes of fresh chicken fillets, pain au chocolate, cookies and coffee. The diamond jewellery is lovely to look at, but the prices are just downright silly even if these are higher quality stones. As I say, it's not so much as 'buyer beware' but 'buyer be cautious' as once the VAT is added, it may not be the bargain you thought. read more

Excellent for bulk buying. Also very good if you are in the area and would like to stop somewhere for something to eat. The cafe here is a fraction of the cost of many other cafes. Excellent value. read more

Around the back of the metro centre this is wonderful place to go if you like to bulk buy or have a party on It is £25 for an indivdual to join and you have to work for certain places or have your own buisness there is a list on the website There are also earlier opening hours for trade than indivduals so check that before you go It is £28 a year to join which gets you photo passes for you and your partner - each of you can take 2 guests at a time and children werent counted They stock such a wide variety from tv, ipod, jewerlly to many different types of household goods, tables, lamps DIY stuff, they have a good clothing section where you can get guess and dkny jeans for cheap They have books cheaper than borders book shop, they have such a large range of stuff so if your thinking of something just ask and I will try and remeber if I saw it The best thing is the bulk buy food - giant packs of everything from nuts, coffee and tea to washing powder and toilet roll You can buy boxes of mars bars and haribo. My must have items are the giant chocolate cake - the most yummy rich cake I have ever had be careful though as it is about 2.4 kg I think and we always give 1/2 away The bakery section is lovely they do massive birthday cakes for a £10 where you go before hand and choose the type of sponge the filling the topping, the design and colours and what you want written You then put the date you want it pop it in the box and come back and its ready in the chiller on that day Go a few days before you want it picked up My fella loves the chicken tenders from the freezer, the lurpak mini butter packs that come in really handy and I have everyone addicted to these little packs of fruit drops which are soft inside but with a bite to the outside and made with real fruit juice Everyone loves the smell of my kimichi noodles which you buy in packs of 12 and work out at 41 a pack they are in a soup bowl type and are fab There is also a little cafe to eat in which does big slices of pizza and a discount tyre palce read more

i would say it is very much like a makro if you would like to go there From Newcastle City Centre, Blackett Street (opposite Gregg's bakery), take the Stagecoach, City Centre/Central Station/Metro Centre 100 bus to the Metro Centre on Handy Drive. The 100 bus runs every 7/8 minutes and the journey takes 15 minutes. The warehouse is only a short walk away. Go-ahead also operates several services from Eldon Square in the City Centre to the Metro Centre. The X36 bus runs every hour and the 45 bus runs every half an hour. read more

There are some fantastic bargains on sale, both advertised and special purchase (limited quantities) but I agree that if you are paying VAT then some items are very expensive. Know your prices before you shop here. read more
