I love food. Let's get this straight. You may know this. You may not give a damm…read more . . Places which sell copious amounts of food and have a huge selection are a candy-land for me. A true paradise. So finding Mayrand was an interesting and clever treasure hunt. Back in the late 80's my dad would take us to a place in Winnipeg called Jensen brothers. This was pre-Costco and a true cash and carry. This was the type of place where you could get some smoking deals on large quantity items. Discovering Mayrand was an exciting and intoxicating display of goods in large quantity. Do you need a 14L pail of Ice cream? Probably the hell not! Unless you are having the whole neighbourhood over for a block party. Or do you need a whole leg of prosciutto? If your family is from Italy or you are having a feast you may need one! Okay folks, Mayrand has quantities for everyday shopping as well. Lots of items! Pretty much every department. They also have a huge restaurant and commercial business side catering to restaurants, bars and other food service outfits as well. I will be honest with my review. It's not all unicorns and gumdrops. I did buy a very cool sharp oyster knife and did search on Amazon after and found it for $20 less. Yes I was a tad pissed. I did want it ASAP though to shuck the two dozen oysters I just had purchased. So shop and understand your prices. Some items here are hella cheap. Think bulk quantity. If you love shopping at Costco you will love their different product assortment. It's just off the A25 on the cusp or Anjou/RDP. Oh yes also. Visa + MasterCard are available as methods of payment making it miles above and beyond better than a cash n carry

I am not a business owner and the only appeal I find in buying in bulk is to try to save money however everything was on the expensive side. Unless you absolutely need certain items in large formats, it's not worth it to shop here because you aren't getting a good deal. The store itself is new, organized and very clean. It is smaller than a costco or the Mayrand in Anjou and doesn't have much fresh produce. I found great selection of beverages and packaging supplies for instance but the food itself is nothing special. I wouldn't recommend this over the competitors.

Is it trying to copy Costco, Club Entrepôt Provigo, Tzanet, Grand Marché, Mayrand? Hmmm, probably a bit of each one's flavour put under one roof but presented in a more modern chic layout. I'll give them one extra star just for that. Very pleasant, neat and clean place gotta admit. My visit was for not more than 20 minutes, I went quickly through the aisles and honestly wasn't impressed. Don't except to see more than 2-3 items that you don't easily find elsewhere ..... packaging-wise that is not exclusive like at Costco. What didn't impress me the most tho, were their prices. Some items were priced just like any other usual place and some were even higher. So really right there, I started wondering the purpose of this place and why should I come back here. So far, I've found none. Perhaps restaurant owners will find a value here bcs they have a program for them that gives back 1% off their total purchases. Meh, may be there's a value there for them but for an end user, you get nothing much besides an above average prices. I'd like to read and learn from other Yelpers who'll go and write about this place. May be there are things I didn't see and realize that they will. Who knows? Overall, I see this place as an extension of other common food and food related places disguised as a warehouse which I might have a use for in case I don't feel like going to the above mentioned retailers.

It's all here at the China Arts Whole Sale. Inside one will find aisles and aisles of what looks to be junky, low quality, made-in-China stuff and for the most part it's true. Nothing here will be of significant value, just something to get for decoration or temporary purposes (like halloween, a play, or for fun). The musty smell is also an indicator that you may come out smelling like mothballs. The guys running the joint are nice and helpful. English doesn't seem to be a problem here, but one would be much better off speaking Cantonese. They have a pretty extensive inventory for most of the things on display, don't be timid to ask for the new stuff if it happens to be in better condition. It's easy to get lost in the back and there are no signs to indicate what is what or where most things are located. It's one of those stores that could double as a flea market, but in order for one to find what they want, they need to feel things out first. Out of most of the touristy wholesale stores, this seems to be one of the largest I've seen in Montreal's Chinatown. I doubt I'll be back, I've seen one too many of these kinds of places already.
