Following an evening of (number redacted) mai tais, my partner had a late night meeting with the hotel room door, which he had mistaken for the passageway to the bathroom. Not only were his glasses damaged, but he was seriously banged up! We saw that Eyewear Kona offered both repairs and same-day glasses with their in-house lab, so off we went to see Darcy. I was joking that she's never going to buy the old "I walked into a door" bit and would call the cops on me. She could not have been more helpful or kind, first checking the body damage in case he needed medical attention (he didn't); then getting the bent glasses as close as possible back to the original shape; and finally helping my partner find a new pair from their unique and stylish selection of frames. At the end of the same day, we were back for our new pair of glasses. A couple days later we returned for some adjustments, no problemo, and were even told that if there were further issues when we returned to the mainland, we could ship the frames back and they'd take care of them. I love the frames he selected and although I wouldn't wish the incident on him again, I'm glad it brought us to Eyewear Kona. It's like the new pair was meant to be. The doctor examined his eye and told us his stitches were in tact and that he did not seen any foreign object in his eye. He prescribed and antibiotic because he thought my husband may have pink eye. I paid for an upgraded lens which was supposed to allow me to see without glasses. However, because they installed it in an incorrect position, it's totally useless and I have had to go back to wearing glasses. Dr. Safi stated to me that his colleague who performed the surgery had to guess at the placement and he guessed wrong! I have tried repeatedly to get a refund of the $2,000 that I paid for the Panoptic lens but they have been totally unresponsive. I have called many, many times and sent emails to no avail. My advice: spread the word that this group should not be trusted to do your cataract surgery.

Dr Wally at costco just completed my eye exam for under $150! They used all the sane technology. Next, they were 30 min late. They sat me in different rooms and my entire appt once started took 3 hours. I was furious to soend 1/2 my day there while my ride had to wait. The worst part of this visit was that I never saw one employee wash their hands or the equipment. They sat me in front of the machine and didnt clean it, we both left and I looked back and they sat the next person and no cleaning after me or hefore the next patient. The lady touched my eye with tool so yes my eye/chin touched a lot of parts. My hands touched items. Thank God I didnt catch pink eye. I would like to complain about 10 more items but I dont even want to waste another second on this office. Very sad and majorly ripped off. I never felt cared for at all.

Unfortunately, a year later we both need repair/replacement glasses before our allotted benefits and the process didn't go as smooth The communication and policies were poor. Walmart just took over the vision department and I guess they changed a lot of policies from the previous business. Their response was we don't do that anymore to 3 requests I.e. I asked if I could pay over the phone since I lived 45 minutes away and they said no. Then I proceeded to change my granddaughters prescription as it was necessary per her doctor. They ordered it and we picked it up with no issues. When I needed to fix my damaged glasses is when they said I needed to pay for it before they could put in my order. I said ok since it was urgent that I get it repaired and they said they would let me know my portion after they submit my claim insurance. when my lenses finally came in they said they could'nt file my claim. I said u did for my granddaughters glasses and she said we ate the cost for her claim $30. This was the first I was hearing about it. After going back and fourth with them and my insurance numerous times Walmart said they couldn't help me so I had to pay the $298. If I knew this in advance I wouldn't have proceeded. THANK GOODNESS for Crystal and Cheryse from the Honolulu store who so happen to be helping the Kona location with staffing. I was getting calls from the billing department for the $30 and the guy from there was so apologetic and was trying to help me resolve my frustration and said to have my insurance call them to see what could be done. My insurance ended up calling Walmart and that's when Crystal helped with awesome customer service and heard my concerns and did something to try and resolve my inconvenience. I've been in the customer service industry for over 35 years as management and I want to commend Crystal and Cheryse for going over and beyond to help me with everything. This is our first visit to the Big Island and even the concierge at our resort admitted that good doctors (especially specialists) can be extremely hard to come by as many apparently return to the mainland in time. We called and emailed around to a number of internet search results and Dr. Senft of Island Eye Care was the first (and only) to respond. She was extremely pleasant on the phone and offered that she would be happy to head in to her office (at a time when it was usually closed) to take care of us. After an unsuccessful visit to an unrelated urgent care facility on another island, Dr. Senft was an absolute pleasure to work (and chat) with, and her specialized knowledge was exactly what we needed to get us back on track.
