Significantly cheaper than most local stations, but with the explosion of high density housing ruining Columbia and Howard in general, expect a wait most of the time.
Costco gasoline has always been a deal, but for decades it meant a trip to Beltsville, then Arundel; which really meant I didn't use them unless I happened to be in the area. Now that we have our own Costco right here in Columbia, it's our primary station. Some folks say that it's only a few cents cheaper than other stations per gallon. This is partially true; the savings for regular is good but if you hunt you can find cheaper stations that close the gap a bit. For premium, however, it really stands out as Costco typically only marks their premium up marginally just to account for the additive package, whereas most brands will mark their premium up very substantially.
For instance today I'm showing (just using google maps) that it's 1.999 for regular, and 2.159 for premium. This is directly off their website - yes, this is literally the only gas station that bothers publishing their prices; isn't it odd that others have always specifically avoided that ? In contrast, 3rd parties are showing that the Exxon on Snowden is currently charging 2.40 for regular, and 3.00 for premium. That's a difference of 40 cents per gallon for regular, which is substantial, and and different of 84 cents per gallon for premium.
Now let's look at our vehicle capacities - we have two cars which take a combined 36 gallons of regular fuel, which amounts to over 14 dollars in savings, and one car that takes 12 gallons of premium, which amounts to over 10 dollars in savings just by itself. That's 24 dollars saved just by driving a couple miles further to Costco instead of using a station that admittedly probably has a slightly more convenient location. Repeat this a couple times a month (or, in the case of 2020, twice a year) and it's substantial savings.
My only gripe is the congestion that's commonly found, and I blame that on our local legislators cramming people into our tiny town more than I do on Costco. read more
