I've had a few experiences at dealerships where I've left feeling exploited, taken advantage of, and just overall terrible; however, this program was the complete opposite and actually helped me feel more grounded and overall comfortable thru the entire purchasing process. It was reassuring to not have to play a back and forth power struggle with the dealership; I was provided the member price before I went to the dealer and because I liked and accepted it, I went forward with the process. I've been a Costco member for many many years but never used their auto buying program. Recently a friend of mine told me how easy it was so when my sister was ready to make a purchase I told her to sign up for a Costco membership and try the auto program. Going through it with her, I was amazed at how easy it really is!! She received a quote within 24 hours from a local dealership, called up one of the representatives listed on the pricing sheet, and then went to the dealer the next day to complete paperwork. Walking through the door with the pricing pre-negotiated was such a breeze, and the rep was incredibly courteous. After seeing how easy it was I decided to try it myself. I had also initiated contact with a broker through Autoland, and while that broker was likewise very professional and courteous I preferred the Costco program for the price savings. The pricing Costco offered was much better than anything Autoland was offering. Autoland does have the extra service of delivering the car to you so you never have to set foot in the dealership, so that is nice, but for me the cost savings was too good to pass up through Costco. Yes, you still have to go to the dealer and go through their paperwork, but its much easier because they know you already have something in mind, with a price point, and you're ready to close the deal. My friend did take her Costco quote and shop it around to a couple dealerships, but I didn't do that since I already had some comps in hand and I got much more car for a better price, so I was pretty happy. I would recommend this program to anyone buying a new car. I was our first purchase through the Costco Auto Program and we would definitely use it again. I received a call from one of the authorized dealer contacts from the participating dealership. He was very pleasant and not pushy. It was the first time we didn't have to haggle on the price. No making an offer, then waiting for it to be presented to a manager, then coming back to us to say no, making another offer and yada yada yada. I am not easily impressed, but I give high marks to the folks at Sunshine Service in Sparks. I went there for a wheel alignment after purchasing new tires for my Honda Pilot. They were friendly and highly professional. Their facility is excellent, their waiting area is clean, comfortable, has a TV, complimentary snacks and beverages, and our dog was welcome. This is my first time trying the Costco Auto Program in buying my first brand new car. My first time buying a brand new car was daunting because of the terrible experiences I've heard that people had in purchasing a vehicle through a car dealership as there's many tricks and games played on the sales floor. I was educated with many of the games played and was ready to roll the dice in my journey in buying a new car. However, my experience was far from that. I signed up online via the Costco Auto Program and was contacted immediately the very next day by Cassidy Hernandez (Business Development Representative) from Ray Catena Lexus of Larchmont who assisted me in a brand new vehicle I was interested in. In addition, I also received an email & text message from Bob Pellecchia (Sales & Leasing Consultant). Cassidy and I spoke over the phone and she confirmed the discount provided by the Costco Auto Program and promptly provided the Costco Member-Only Price Sheet via email for me to review. Bob texted me right after if I had any further questions and we got on the phone for the out the door number as I knew this is the car I wanted (color, trim, interior, model). Bob was 100% transparent with his final out the door number from Day 1. Also, I knew his out the door number was extremely competitive and aggressive compared to others with the Costco Auto Program discount. There were absolutely no games played or high pressure sales tactics. No bogus or hidden fees. He made me feel at ease with my purchase of the brand new 2024 Lexus RX350H Premium Plus. He provided me with simple answers to my questions and I slept on it for 1 night before providing him an answer to put down a refundable deposit on the vehicle I wanted to purchase. The next day I called and let him know I am ready to put down the refundable deposit and would like to pick it up the coming weekend (Saturday). He emailed me the draft Vehicle Purchase Agreement with the out the door number that we discussed. The entire purchase experience has been amazing and very straightforward. My family and I got there a little after 11AM and we instantly recognized our brand new car with a nice big red bow on top. We finally met Bob in person and he showed us our brand new car and helped us take a few pictures. He also provided quite a few free items: Ray Catena Lexus bear for my son, (2) stainless steel thermal cups, a cap for my son and a foldable cargo organizer. I inspected it from top to bottom for about an hour. He was very patient and understanding of my inspection that I performed. Brandon James (Technology Specialist) was introduced to me by Bob to teach me about the technology on the vehicle as I was coming from a 2013 vehicle which is a huge change. Brandon was extremely knowledgeable, patient, professional and has client experience satisfaction in mind as well. I took the car for a test drive and everything was great. After everything checked out, I was ready to execute the sale with all the paperwork required and drive it off the lot! I can't believe Costco lends their name to this "service" because they are just lead-generators for selected dealers. While we were able to get a $500 discount and some waived add-ons, I'm not sure we couldn't have done the same on our own. We still had to hassle with a lackluster sales rep, managers wanting to low-ball us for our trade-in, finance folks wanting to sell us extended warranties, etc. Anyone expecting to walk in, sign and drive away into the sunset is in for a rude awaking. In our case, we did not like working with the dealer they hooked us up with and let CA know so in our survey. We received a response back from CA (Yesenia), to whom I tried contacting several times - but never got a response. A few days later I had a follow-up inquiry from CA (Francisco), but ran into the same problem. So I called the main number and was able to get a referral to another dealer on 2/24. This dealer never contacted me, and I never heard from CA again - even after I wound up going back to the first dealer and bought a new car via the CA program. read more

The Costco program was fine. They essentially give you $400 under invoice cost (which is a made up number anyhow that they show customers). I ended up saving about $4,000 off the sticker retail price, but I would have saved pretty much the same if I had bought it with the year-end deals they had going on the first of January. The Costco deal made it about $200 cheaper for me. If there had not been any other discounts on new 2021 cars (in Jan of 2021), then I would have saved much more. So it's like everything else, you really have to shop around to compare. Some people seem to save a bunch because their dealer says "The sticker price is the set price you pay" and others say "Buy now and get $3,500 off sticker and that makes it about the Costco price. read more

Costco employees didn't know much about it. Handed me a brochure but didn't have anyone to speak with in person about it. Had problem logging into website. The ridiculous app won't let you scan your card number so you have to manually type them in - which is really hard for someone whose vision isn't 20/20 because the print is so tiny. Anyhoo... after all of that, the website for the auto buying program really sucked. Didn't give me any info about car I was interested in buying. Didn't show me any dealers currently selling it. Ridiculous. I used Sam's Club app. I didn't have to type in my membership number, I was able to search for specific car and find local dealers who were selling it along with the pricing info. The last time I bought a new car (6 years ago) it was an 8 hour odyssey, with the test drive, the sales person making three trips to the floor manager to get a deal approved, one trip from the Sales manager that finally sealed the deal and then off to the finance guys for extra sales. We found a chip on the driver side rear door hinge and they agreed to take it back to the body shop to sand and paint to restore to new condition and provided a loaner vehicle for the duration of the fix. We trusted the Costco Auto Program and walked into the Mazda dealer, confident that we would receive a transparent, haggle free price. We met our authorized Costco rep at the dealer and were immediately handed off to someone else to do a test drive and get our questions answered. We never saw our Costco rep again and we were never offered a price sheet from the Costco program. (Shame on us for actually thinking we were getting the Costco deal). And we were told that only the managers could view that document. (Again, we should have walked away at that point). Most recently I wrote a poor review based on my personal experience with the Costco Auto Program. My intend in writing yelp reviews is not first and foremost to express grievances, but a concerted effort to inform other consumers and to keep them from making similar mistakes I made. My review was removed from yelp, I assumed, at the request of the Costco Auto Program, citing that the language in the review did not clearly described a first hand experience as a customer of the program. My experience with the program, I assure you, was very personal, firsthand and in fact over a period of a couple of days. When I first entered my personal information in their web site, I admit, I did not read the small print at the top and bottom of the page which says The site is operated by a third party, but the site has the Costco logo in large print in the middle of the page(Costco Auto program, buy with Confidence). Look and judge for yourself. At the very bottom of the page there is a very important disclaimer, which in my Need to find someone to help me negotiate a good car purchase deal and avoid hassles, I also failed to notice. The disclaimer states, that not only they do not negotiate individual transactions, but furthermore that the car dealerships have to pay a participating fee to participate in this program. I proceeded to enter my personal information into the program only to be told by the dealerships that contacted me that the particular vehicle I was looking for was specifically excluded from the program because it was a popular vehicle( A toyota Prius) . I further noticed that the prices allegedly negotiated by the program, did not show great benefit. My take on this program, based on my own experience, is that it is simply a third party, just making money by collecting and passing on your personal information to others. In my opinion this program does not represent the interest of Cotso members as it clearly implies in their large print and it does nothing to help Costco customers. You can do better by doing some further research and comparing prices on your own. The biggest problem I have with this program is that it implies to help the membership paying Costco members and in my opinion it does not. I am long time member of Costco and I pay pay a significant anual membership for which I expect some benefits. I believe that Costco does a disservice to themselves and their members by not carefully monitoring their associations with programs such as this one.
