My family of 8 celebrated my husband's Birthday at Costa's/Hoover. I called ahead for a table. Once we arrived it was a train wreck from the start. I felt as though they were clueless about the reservation for 8. So, once we were seated our waitress seemed frustrated with us even before we ordered our drinks. She didn't appear to have good communication skills, seemed confused, and didn't engage well with her customers. She took our order without asking will the checks be together or separate. I will say she did a good job bringing us bread. I ordered an appetizer and received it much later into the meal (and asked for it several times). Once our food came out she didn't seem knowledgeable with the dishes (she kept saying chicken fettuccine and the dish was chicken Manicotti. We went the longest without refills. My mother ordered baked spaghetti and it was sooo watery and oily she took one bite and didn't eat it..I ended up taking it home. The confusion came at the end of the meal when we were settling the bill. SEVERAL times we had to explain exactly who had what. I received my ticket and was still charged for 2 other meals in addition to what I had. The dinner prices were horrific. I paid $68 for 3 drinks, fried mozzarella, baked Ziti, and chicken Alfredo. Not to mention, we were there for almost 3hours not by choice (45min just on getting the correct tickets). What was supposed to be a nice, peaceful dining experience was the total opposite. Seafood, steaks, kabobs, salads are all special also! This restaurant makes all their sauces in house and are from a old family recipes! Arrived on a busy Friday night and the place was full. However, we where seated right away. prompt service and a very busy waitress took excellent care of the four of us. Drinks and delicious buttered garlic bread arrived quickly. Some said their salad bowls where warm but salads chilled properly ( guess the bowls where fresh from dishwasher as I said the place was packed and tables where turning over). Entrees Baked Ziti, Fettuccine Alfedo, Lasagna and Veal Dish all amazing and large. The sauce ( gravy) on my Lasagna tasted fresh but was a little watery ( reason for only 4 stars). We have been buying the lasagna family meals at Costas for years and the large one feeds 5 to 6 people, it comes with a large pan of lasagna, large pan of salad and 4 huge breadsticks. We ordered this meal tonight and the portions have been cut in half both by depth and width of the pan of lasagna. The salad came in a styrofoam to go box instead of the large aluminum pan as previously was served and they served us Sister Schuberts rolls instead of the large breadsticks. We thought they gave us the wrong order so we told them so and that's when they told us they had cut the portions and they can no longer get the breadsticks as the place they ordered them from for years no longer makes them. The food also didn't taste as good as it has in years past. I'm not sure if they have sold the place, if they are under new management or if the place is just cutting back due to the overall pricing increases affecting our country but either way it goes, Beware of the family meals if you have been accustomed to the large portions that were served in years past. Costas was wonderful to work with, very kind and conscientious, they thought of everything we would need for our event, and the food was reasonably priced. our guests loved the salad, bread and entrees (chicken alfredo, lasagna, and baked spaghetti). Costas homemade dressings are fantastic as well--the best ranch and Greek dressings around. Being of Mediterranean descent and a pretty good cook myself, I'm picky about Mediterranean food; Costas tasted like grandma's cooking. My elderly mom likes to eat here. So when my wife and I offered to take her out to dinner, this was her choice. Must admit to being skeptical. I'd driven past this place hundreds of times. The exterior looks as if just came through the wormhole from the late 70s or early 80s. No kidding, it looks like the kind of place you'd go to have a quiet dinner while ordering a hit on Jimmy the Weasel. And, truthfully, walking in the door didn't do much to help my perception. Lots of dark woods, dark brick and not a lot of updating. But the food was excellent. I had the veal and my wife had the baked ziti. The bread was freshly baked and the salad was quite good. The only hitch was the drinks. I ordered a martini and our nice waitress returned from the bar saying they were out of "Whatever they make martinis with." Fine. Gin and tonic. Evidently, the place is very popular with families. Lots of big tables filled with happy people of all ages. Which makes sense because the prices are pretty reasonable. As in three of us getting out of there for under $50. Plus if you want to get down to brass tacks, they give you too much food. So the leftovers means you won't have to buy lunch the next day. The pasta was piled onto the plate to the point it was about to fall off then it was over saturated with sauce. The flavor was alright and the veal was edible. I could not find the health rating however I would be surprised if it was good. The place was dated, strangely decorated and the carpet had seen better days. Costa's has been a family favorite and default Italian/Mediteranean restaurant for my family for a very long time. Consistently good comfort food but, for us, the eggplant parmigiana and the lamb chops stand out. We went this past Friday and the place was busy at 7pm. Like everyone, they are short staffed and the servers were having to double up on duties helping out bussing tables, greeting and seating guests and delivering food to tables. All of the salad dressings are made in house and are decadent. I always opt for the authentic Greek salad. The portions are generous and the flavors are deep and magnificent. They even make their own Italian sausage. Wonderful. Although the interior harkens back to 1980, the food makes the difference. We've never had a bad meal here and we always go home happy and full with leftovers. read more

The Baked Spaghetti is baked with meat sauce and mozzarella cheese, and it is my favorite. Entrees are served with your choice of either a fresh tossed salad or Caesar salad. The homemade salad dressings are wonderful. This is good place for lunch, and the lunch portions are large enough to share with a friend. Costas also offers family dinners that are prepared for take-out. Call ahead an order and pick up a complete dinner that includes salad and garlic bread. These dinners are very reasonably priced. It was in an actual Pita, with the proper ingredients and sauces. Unlike other places in the area (read my other reviews with others interpretations of Gyros, please don't get me started) Wife had a Chicken Cutlet Parm with Spaghetti, the portion was huge, sauce was borderline and the Chicken may have been a pre-breaded patty but it was hard to tell because it was smothered in Cheese and sauce. Now for the less than pleasant side: Service was mediocre. Drink refills were slow when the place was not even half full. Decor is HORRID!! The table we sat at, the finish was peeling off of it in sheets, there was NO WAY this table could be sanitized. It had actually texture. The entire interior needs to be gutted, its 1980's decor and the restrooms look like a Gas Station restroom. Rusty pipes, plastic walls. On a Saturday night the place is filled with mostly the retiree crowd or the boomers with their retiree parents.
