Cosmos Club is a very refined and elegant venue. A member invited me here for a special event, and I was in awe of the photos of Nobel laureates on the wall who are club members. The whole place is just very civilized! Lunch (roasted chicken) was delicious.

This is a review of the Cosmos Clubhouse and tour, without dining or staying there. The experience was good. They are open to public for tours only four times a year. We were lucky to get tickets. Photos and videos are not allowed inside. A dress code is observed. Athletic clothing and footwear, jeans, t-shirts are not allowed. Since it was big group, we were split into two groups. Our tour guides were nice; the lady who carried old pictures of the mansion seemed to have forgotten to show us the pictures but remembered at the end of the tour. The tour started on time and we went to the lobby, ballroom, library, dining area, and Dolley Madison room. The mansion in Beaux-Arts style was beautiful and full of history. We learned interesting facts about the people who once owned it, architecture, and others.

The world is filled with wonderous and magical feats. They happen every day and they leave the mind awash with glee and possibility for the future. I spend an inordinate amount of time watching such things on various internet mediums. Often, I travel great distances to be enthralled by hearing the very people who perform these achievements in person and, without doubt, seeing them in the flesh, recounting their journey, is the superior option. Having the ability to see such recanting of magic in my current city of residence, at the Cosmos Club, has been a long-time bucket list, and the evening lived up to the hype. I was very fortunately invited to the cocktail and dinner preceding the lecture where I heard from astronauts and authors, scientists and titans of industry, schmooze about their latest endeavors. It was required that I hunt in the back of my closet for formal attire to attend and I was pleased to find that the long desert of covid had not dulled my ability to tie a Windsor knot or find a lovely home for my iPhone in a snazzy dinner jacket. The venue and ambiance were very reminiscent of my college days: conversing in halls of high ceiling whose walls were lined with dark wood and decorated with original works of art featuring faces whose time on this Earth was marked by moments of discovery and a zeal to share that knowledge widely. I was sad when the evening ended and will conspire to be a guest whenever the breadcrumbs of an opportunity might present itself. Every day the world seems to inch closer to a chaotic and loathsome state. I take great comfort in knowing people continue to revere the fascinating and take time to hear from those who bring it to life.

Food: 5* Service: 5* Ambience: 6* Location: 5* On a business trip, a member was able to get our group into this place. Wow! What a memorable experience. The food was amazing. I had steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was perfectly cooked, tasty, and ample. The potatoes were fantastic. I don't know what they did to them, but they were so tasty. I actually asked for more! The location near DuPont Circle was great. This former mansion was impressive. See the pictures attached to this review. Classy, full of wood, and wonderfully historic.

Attended a special event. The appetizers were quite good. The popover served as a roll would have been enough to get the stars.

Truly a historic landmark with insights on history . Nice rooms with breakfast, lunch and dinner on-site. The staff is very professional and pleasant. You are not allowed to tip any staff and there are dress code rules when dining in the on-site in the dining area and in the library area. This is a members only organization for members but you may be able to stay if you are a member of a reciprocal organization. I enjoyed viewing the ballroom, library and other rooms in the club. Various art, photos and historical landmark items to view. Enjoy.

I could totally believe that the Cosmos Club was once the social headquarters for Washington's intellectual elite. The point is driven home with black and white portraits of the club's 32 Nobel Prize winners and 56 Pulitzer Prize winners that cover the first floor walls of this elite private club's stately Beaux-Arts mansion. I attended an engagement dinner here last night and had a lovely time. The event was held in the Gold Room and began with passed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. The spicy, skewered fried shrimp was especially tasty. Popovers were served with dinner. They were cooked slightly longer than I might've liked but in the end, popovers are hard to argue with! Another standout was the butternut squash soup which had a bright, savory flavor. Food aside, the best part of the Cosmos Club for me was the library. Three of us ascended the grand staircase to get to this hushed room. Inside there were current copies of every reputable magazine and journal you can think of. And several shelves were dedicated to recent works by Cosmos Club members. I could have easily wiled away hours in this library. Now, if only I knew a member who could get me access on a regular basis!

An absolute splendid lunch over a discussion of Shakespeare! If you go with a member you will be able to have lunch there. They have a really nice selection of desserts or dessert bar and as well as three-course entrée. The food is really good I had chicken and soup and salad.

My wife and I came as guests, and dined in the garden room. The most memorable moment occurred as we walked down a corridor adorned with black and white photos of distinguished members. I was a little in awe of the contributions this group has made in so many areas. Dinner itself was a pleasant surprise. Dressing in a sport coat and tie leant a nice formality to the meal, and whisked me back to a time when this attire was more commonplace. I began with crab soup. It had a generous amount of lump crab meat placed in what had been a hearty vegetable soup base. The problem was that the components hadn't had ample opportunity to marry, leaving the broth tasting more like vegetable soup. It also needed added spice and pepper. My entree was black cod. The plate was attractive, with circles of kaffir lime sauce, and little baby bok choy, adding interest to the fish, and fava bean puree. The skin was crisp, and the fish was cooked perfectly. Any fish lover would greatly enjoy this dish. I tasted my wife's salmon, and it also was expertly prepared. Light and moist, and covered in a lemon buerre blanc that enhanced the fish. Another winner. Dinner concluded with flourless chocolate cake. The dense cake had a creaminess and richness that was sure to satisfy any chocoholic. A cup of decaf sealed the deal. Any short comings in this meal were outweighed by all the things done right. Fish tests the kitchen, and in this test the chef passed with flying colors.

The Crucible Flimflam on a Double-Throuple Date Night…read more So we met up with a dope ass Throuple at BAMM's Karaoke night last Thursday. All six of us caught a vibe but it was a vanilla event so the plan was to go on a double-throuple date Friday night. Not sure who picked it but we decided to meet up at the Crucible. I'm pretty sure it was the first time for all of us so we were excited to try a new place together. According to the event's fine print, the educational talks and demos were scheduled first but then "The Exploratorium" would be open after 11 p.m. I remember specifically reading, "More experienced folk come on out after 11:00 PM for open play." Well like I said, we had already caught the vibe the night before so we were ready to ride the wave the next night. We arrived at 11:15, dressed to impress and ready to party. The six of us stood in front lobby for a while. Apparently, no alcohol is allowed on the premises so the men had to run the drinks back to the car. I should have been paying attention to the faces of the people exiting or even the fact that folks were leaving soon after arriving. I guess I was so full of anticipation about the good time that I didn't notice. Well after we finally checked in, we were free to walk to the back. There are lockers and a changing area to the left. The restrooms are co-ed. The main hall opens into a large room with a bar and stage. There are several stations scattered about the room. A couple Saint Andrew's crosses, a horse, a canopy bed, a few overhead hooks, etc. To the right, there is a large open "theater" area. I think there were couches in there. And finally in the back left corner, there is a room with a swing and a couple fuckable chairs. I don't recall any music. It was eerily quiet with a weird mix of cocktail hour chatter and whipping noises. The lights were ON! Waaay too bright for an LS environment if you ask me. In fact, the whole setup wasn't really conducive to the type of on-premises fun we were looking for. The open floor plan makes it impossible to have an intimate experience. We walked around but it was difficult to find a place to get comfy with our party of six. I don't know if it was just a feeling we got or the fact that we were just in a new space but it felt like the entire couple watched us walk around and were waiting for us to "go." The crowd was almost entirely white. Maybe 30 people in the room. And we were six tall, sexy, Black people striding around the room in out panties and heels rubbing and groping each other. Even the men were shirtless and glistening! We looked good enough to eat and the crowd was drooling. We made our way to the room on the left with the swing. It's not at all private but at least we could get nasty without being on full display. The six of us started to "go" but the gentleman in the other couple was a little hesitant. He said that something was off so he wanted to check to make sure we could indeed play. He went to find an attendant to confirm that open play was allowed. Well, thats when they hit us with the flimflam. As the tip of my husband's dick just touched the lips of one of the young ladies, the attendant informed us that "absolutely no oral" was allowed on the premises. According to her, while sex on the premises is typically allowed, this was the one night that it was not. I went back and checked the fine print: "More experienced folk come on out after 11:00 PM for open play." Did I miss something? When they said play did they mean we could have play sex on their equipment? Were we really the only people who expected to "play"? Was there something particularly offensive by our half-naked Black bodies that prevented us from playing? Whatever the case, the Crucible is not swinger friendly at all!! Total waste of money. Date night killer. So basically we paid $100 to look at their equipment and pantomime sex. The shit almost blew our whole double-throuple date. We left for Shadows about 15 minutes after getting there. (The Shadows ripoff story is for another day.) Next time, we'll just go to a hookah lounge. Dance a little. Sip a little. Then we can just get a room. Unless you really really just want to attend educational event, stay away from the Crucible. It is an overrated waste of money.

Of course my friend is a member and if I'm lucky, someday I will be too. It started off as I walked up the sidewalk and approached the club, the doorman was standing on the sidewalk. As I got closer, the doorman greeted me by name! I was taken a back for a minute wondering how could he possibly know my name! I was escorted in and asked to wait in the main reception while they went to get my friend. I went into what they refer to as the "Correspondence Lounge" which is sort of a small library with some incredibly old literary works. They have very strict rules and one of surprise is no use of cell phones... period. How refreshing! You can go into the Correspondence Lounge if you need to use your phone but otherwise you cannot use while in the dining room or other public areas. So make sure you "check-in" on Yelp when you are outside. Naturally they have a dress code, but really, if you have to ask what the dress code is, you probably aren't going to this place. Another rule I was surprised is they try to keep business limited so you cannot bring out a bunch of papers, laptop, etc... The only papers you can hold would have to be a newspaper or a book. Once seated, the service is impeccable. Extremely polite and not overbearing. They knew when we were engrossed in conversation and didn't interrupt. I had the lump crab cake for dinner and it was without a doubt the BEST! I lived in Virginia for five years and went to college at George Washington so I'm quite familiar with East Coast seafood and I can honestly say the lump crab at the Metropolitan Club is the BEST! I could go on about this place but simply put, if you have the opportunity to go, don't pass that opportunity up for what will end up being one of the greatest dining experiences of your life.
