This is a partisan joint; if you're on this particular side of the aisle you'll dig the environment, the history, and the folks you'll rub shoulders with. If you're used to all those perks, you can consider the food on its own merit: you'll have to visit with someone who has membership if you don't have your own; prices have generally been very reasonable for what you get but the place is going through changes in management and that means some things like prices are changing... but quality of the food you get is consistent. Not five star type of food but close in many cases while on others it tends to be just above average. The lobster bisque, crab cakes, tenderloin beef, and desserts are easy bets. read more

We used our reciprocal club membership to visit Capitol Hill Club. The location was great, right next to the Capitol. We took an Uber, so I can't tell you about parking. We initially had a reservation in the Presidential Dining room, but it was closed that day, so we ended up visiting the grill. We were greeted by a very nice woman who gave us our guest pass, and layer checked in on us to make sure everything was great. Then the service at the Capitol Hill Club was amazing! The night we went, they were having a happy hour with a free appetizer buffet and discounted beer and cocktails. We really liked this, and I recommend the Pina Colada. Another cool thing was that they had a basket of popcorn on every table. I don't know if they do this every night or if this was part of the happy hour, but I love popcorn, so I was thrilled. After the drinks and appetizer buffet, I was really full, so I ordered the guacamole and chips for dinner. It was a really great night, and the club was not crowded. read more

This is a members only club. It has two dining rooms. The presidential dining room has a dress code and the grill downstairs is a bit more relaxed. A member friend of ours invited us to the grill. The drinks and food was very good and the prices were actually quite reasonable for being capital hill. If you are anti republicans, this is not the spot for you. If you are open to all sides and have a friend that can get you in, it's worth checking out as you never know what politician will be there. When we went we did not run into anyone and just had a great time with our group of 10. So this rating is about the good food, great price, and great time with my friends. Capital Hill Club is a social club where all the Republicans congregate. One of my husband's colleagues is a member, and we were guests of his. During our visit to DC, we decided to have breakfast here before heading to our tour of the White House. Lyft dropped us off right out front and as we entered a gentleman was there to assist. My husband relayed his name and the gentleman welcomed us by name and told us where to go. The Club was on a different floor and as we entered the host greeted us. We were able to sit anywhere. There were groups of people inside having breakfast and my husband mentioned that he saw some Congressmen dining nearby. Although I'm not aware of a dress code, I do suggest dressing the part. I had a NorthFace jacket (probably not the best ladies jacket to wear), Loft black and white sweater (which was fine), dark denim jeans (probably wouldn't recommend it), and my Nikes (definitely NOT). No one said anything and I didn't feel as though anyone was staring, but I just felt uncomfortable wearing the outfit I was whereas everyone was either in suits or dresses! We opted to do the breakfast buffet vs a la carte. It seemed as though everyone does the same as well. The buffet is about $15 vs the entrees. There are eggs, waffles, sausages, bacon, fruit, assorted breads, and juices. It's a small buffet but adequate. Coffee and water are left on the table to refill your cups/glasses as necessary. We had great and friendly service. Old school feel and you can definitely feel the Republicaness up in here! read more

This is a members only club where senators and congressmen typically hang out in DC. I spent the day on Capitol Hill with some colleagues so it was an appropriate place for our debrief meeting. We had some connections to get in so it worked out great. LIKES: The building has an older, classy feel about it. We were greeted immediately at the front door by a very nice woman who was quite helpful. Even though I'm not a Republican that didn't seem to be an issue. We reserved a private room for our party and it was spacious enough to meet our needs. The food was good for the most part. They had a lot of toppings for our salad bar and my favorite thing ended up being the minestrone soup, even though I'm not normally a big soup person. It was made with fresh & hearty ingredients. Also enjoyed the strawberry cheesecake for dessert. DISLIKES: parking in this neighborhood is atrocious. Plan time ahead and be prepared to walk. Even though I like the older classic feel of this building the decor could use an update. Lastly, some of the meat that I ate was very tough. Our MBA class attended presentations by some good speakers. Capital Hill Club is social place where Republicans such as senators and congressmen gather throughout the day. They also offer shoe shine services. It holds about 50 including food and drink services. Lunch was good though dessert according to my class said it was a little dry. They also searched for hot sauce and were unable to find any. Seats were comfortable. You can take pictures inside and also on the first floor. read more

Capitol Hill Club I had heard stories from friends who were former Hill interns that there was a place, located within the RNC building, that offered a Friday happy hour complete with a free buffet and staffers singing karaoke. After over a year missing out on this potential gem I ventured over last Friday. What must be understood about the Capitol Hill club is that it's members only, but on Friday nights the exclusiveness becomes a little more grey and you might just be able to make it in if you know what you're doing. So I give you... How to Crash the Capitol Hill Club When you enter into the club you're greeted by a large portrait of Bush Sr. on your left and the receptionist on your right. Walk fast and self assuredly to the back of the main floor and use the elevator on your right Get off on the lower floor at the grill and find a table in the dining room or the lounge area that allows ample surveillance of the club and seats you next to people that will provide satisfactory eavesdropping. When the server asks you if you want to put it on your account, tell him you want to use your Visa and order a pitcher of Yuengling. Clearly the current economic situation even affects the Republicans so it's $5 to sample the buffet spread out around the bar. Go ahead, grab a plate or two, just try to look like you belong by not heaping to overflowing. The chili is a-mazing. The guac is awful. Fill a plate with wings. Have some oysters if you dare and sit yourself back down and enjoy an hour or two of guessing which Congressman is sipping a dry martini a few seats from you read more

This is the place to be. The Presidential Dining Room has as fine a dinner out as any place in D.C. Some may disagree, but dollar for dollar and bite for bite, I'll stand on it. The building is beautiful, the atmosphere is lovely and quiet, and there are plenty of rooms for small groups if you want to hold a private dinner, meeting or what have you. But of course, that's not all. This is, after all, the National Republican Club of Capitol Hill. Downstairs, in the basement where the bar and grill are, the place is simply swarming with Republican Congressmen, Senators and staffers. And consultants. And lobbyists. And assorted hangers-on. Everyone who's anybody or trying to influence anybody is here. And it's louder and generally fun. Some have noted that this is "Members Only", and speaking as a member, that's true. And with regard to that, it's an especially nice club in that its reciprocal clubs are some of the nicest in the world, and we've enjoyed making use of that benefit quite a bit. In any case, for those who are interested in belonging to a moderately exclusive club that has a lot of benefits, sits about a block from the U.S. Capitol (directly beside the Republican National Committee), and has some of the better eating in town -- both upscale and casual -- plus tremendous meeting space, the Capitol Hill Club is five-star. I always enjoy coming here. My boss and a coupe of my office mates are members, so I've visited the club a few times now. I've been here for lunch and dinner, both with friends and for more formal events. The food is always good. I really enjoyed the burger, it was super juicy and cooked perfectly. The dinner events are a lot of fun. I went to the crawfish boil and Italian night with my office and we had a really good time at both. The luncheon meeting had a taco bar and it was delicious. Even with their buffets the food is vey fresh and well prepared. Service is usually impeccable, but I've had one dinner where we were forgotten. It took three of us over 90 minutes to get menus, order, get our food, and leave. It was a late vote night, but the club dining room wasn't that crowded and my salad was soggy by the time I got it. Other than that meal, I've had a fantastic experience. They have a snack bar with good nuts, meats, and cheese and they have a full bar to compliment your meal. read more

I'm not a member, but I've got a friend. If you have a friend whom you know is a member of the Capitol Hill Club, aka the National Republican Club, then you're likely the type to enjoy the experience (the drinks were top-notch, the service was immaculate, and there're more vicarious thrills than the Banff Film Festival); if you have no friends here... you can't get in, but it's probably not for you anyway. You have to at least enjoy pretending to believe in the righteousness of privilege. The staff here are a veritable United Nations, which ethnic diversity contrasts stunningly with the 99% white clientele (unless you count The Grand Poobah's spray-tan). My waiter oddly asked if I wanted my gin martini on the rocks, but the drink he returned was exactly as I'd asked and as cold as GOP immigration policy. I also got to hear them speak in military-esque code to organize a silent extra-service operation when a VIP entered. Less like slaves or undocumented workers (as one would expect); more like the servants at Downton Abbey. Popcorn on the bar tables, and it's good! Holy smokes. -1 star because clearly this place was a lot more fun when they could smoke inside, and because no one seemed to be having a good time until a certain twinkle-toed fellon busted in like Cosmo Kramer. If you want to see this club of geriatric Teutons reveling in their dominance over all other peoples, you're going to have to elect some more to the Senate. read more

Not a member, but thanks to a friend who is, we stopped by here for lunch. Food was great, people watching was great, and the service was great. I'm trying to come up with a funny political comment to say. But in truth, it's a place to conduct business over drinks. If you have business with someone here, then here you will be. And sadly, I could not find the drinks that Ben F. spoke of anywhere on the bar menu. He most have been in the VIP room. Oh, and I forgot my suit on the door hanger before the trip, so my 9 year old daughter had a great laugh that I was seriously under-dressed in a t-shirt. read more

While it's cool because it's the Republican social club & watering hole, and you may see the likes of John Boehner in here (pre-resignation) - the excitement stops there for me. We hosted a corporate function here, and I think the space is old and dingy. I get that they're going for a traditional decor look in here, but when was this place last updated? 1945? It even smells musty... And the service....oye. While everyone was really friendly, the service was just blah and for some reason the concept of serving dinner seemed like rocket science to the folks that attended to our room. I saw one instance where a woman was literally asked four times if she wanted coffee! I know this may seem trivial to you, but I'm picky about my corporate events....and no, it wasn't 4 different people - there were 2 people that each asked twice. On top of the food being along the lines of what I think you'd get on the airplane, I'm just not sure I understand the draw of this place. read more

You will run into some very interesting people. The grill downstairs is dark and as many times as I have gone, NEVER once have I received good service! It ranges from bad to awful to ok. The food is fine and the Friday happy hour buffet is good. If you go to meet new people, go to the grill. Upstairs in the main dining room is were they keep their better staff. Their lunch buffet is really good and stocked with fresh fruit but $14 (or so) per person for lunch makes it hard to go a lot. I get the feeling that the crowd can be a bit snobbish at times and I'm not sure I will keep my membership much longer but it was an interesting experience. Now, I don't have the money/education/experience to be a member of this club per se, however I was informed that on Friday nights there is an open happy hour at the grill, which comes with a complimentary all-you-can-eat snack food bar if you buy a drink (otherwise, you're charged $5 for it). I met up with some friends here right after work, and they had been here a few times before and they mentioned that they weren't charged for the snack buffet. They were frustrated that our waitress that night was charging them, but to be honest, I had already bought a drink before she brought up the charge and wasn't planning on filling up with chips and salsa. So I ordered a quesadilla, which was honestly a little unimpressive for the $12 I paid for it. But it's got a pretty classy feel, and it's still a good time if you're just getting drinks with friends. The the Republican rubs you the wrong way though, perhaps hit up the Poor House, which is allegedly on the Senate side of the Hill. read more

As some prior reviews note, this restaurant is members-only. The Capitol Hill Club is the premier Republican political club located one block from the US Capitol. The building has five stories, and the second floor is where you'll find the President's Dining Room, which is the restaurant. I received an invitation from a well-known Republican to join him for lunch here along with three other White House interns from Kentucky. If you like politics and food, this is the closest you'll ever get to finding heaven on earth--dozens of the most powerful men/women enjoying fabulous food. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The entire club is beautifully decorated with portraits of famous Republicans. The dining room is medium-sized and very elegant. The food was tasty, but--I'll admit--it wasn't perfect. I just had the lunch buffet, and I'm assuming that dinner would be an even better experience. The service was excellent. However, the individual with whom I was dining was arguably the most powerful Republican in DC at the time, so I'm sure that the servers were on their best behavior. If you're going to the Cap Hill Club the chances are that you're going to some sort of reception. The last time I went was for the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Caucus's annual Cinco De Mayo party. It was a lot of fun and the venue is pretty swanky. This is a pretty cool place to throw a party if you're in the market... and if you get invited to a function at the Cap Hill Club I highly suggest you go as it's likely to be a good time. They also have a restaurant, so I hear, that I've never been to but it's supposed to be pretty good. Expect to see a number of Congressional members and lobbyists swooning hill staffers. read more

Came here a few months ago for dinner on a weekday night with a few acquaintances as guests of a Texas Congressman who shall remain nameless. The Presidential Dining Room (the restaurant) is located on the second floor. As expected, the ambiance was nice and staff were attentive. The food is pretty good. -lobster bisque: Was OK. Everyone else enjoyed it, but I found it a bit too rich for my taste. After the waiter took my plate away, the chef inquired why I did not touch most of my bisque-haha, I guess I offended him. -certified black angus sirlion steak with roast fingerling potatoes, baby vegetables, and sautéed spinach: Steak was thick and flavorful. This thing was HUGE, it took up the majority of my plate and ended up being able to finish only 1/4 of it.. -dessert: I remembered sharing something with a friend..some type of chocolate creation, but don't remember what it was b/c I was so immersed in the conversation. . . Went here with a friend who is a member, as it is a membership only club for the dining room. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food as well as the friendly personalized service. The decor is a bit stodgy, but nonetheless elegant. The clientele were friendly, knowledgeable and engaging, and to my surprise, quite diverse. I The location is good, but parking can be a bit tricky if you don't know the ins and outs of the Hill. I am definitely looking forward to a return trip. I had the pleasure of dining here with one of our senators and congressman fron our great state. We dined in the 2nd floor dinning room. The sevice is outstanding, the menu is a little limited but the food is good. It was also my first run in with Secret Service. A black SUV pulled up and out come men with ear pieces and suits and some big wig. The restaurante on the lower floor has very average food and the cost is same as easting in a good restaurante outside. We had our wedding here in October 2015, and we couldn't have been happier. They had some of the most reasonable prices in DC, so we were surprised with the level of service that we received. We had an issue with a vendor the morning of the wedding - the staff told us not to worry about it, that they would handle it. We never heard another word about it. We were worried that we would need a day-of coordinator, but we really didn't need one. The staff took care of everything during the event, including ceremony coordination! read more
