I have been to this barbershop on/off for over a year. Never once have I had a very terrible experience - until today. I have gotten this lady with the side bang pixie haircut that sits on the far right of the entrance. This lady I have seen there for a while, but I never had her. I usually request a medium to low skin fade with a trim on the top when I get there so I thought that I would be okay. Lady completely ignored my request and ended up doing a very high fade with little hair remaining on the top. I explained to her nicely what she did wrong and she just laughed it off. Not even a sorry. I called back after I left to express my concerns, they offered to fix it, but with the attached pictures, how could it be fixed? The only way it could be fixed was shaving it off. The lady named Lynn with the short hair is awful. I told her how to cut my son's hair and showed a picture. I look at my other son who is also getting a haircut for 1 minute and when I turn around, she has made his front hair about a centimeter long. It's like he took scissors to his own hair. And they were laughing when I walked out after I complained. AWFUL. I hope you go bald. read more

Cosmo's is an institution in Pleasanton! It's a bit off the beaten path in a small stripmall about a mile South and East of Main St. Downtown. A good friend of mine told me about it. According to their website, they've been in business since 1974! That's a very long time. I have no idea how long the current operator has owned this business. He employs an all women crew to staff the 15 chairs. They are a really varied crew - mostly Asians from Vietnam, Chinese, Korean, Thai and a few fro the U.S. They're easy enough to identify - a black lady and a blonde lady. And they also vary considerably in ages. There is one male in the whole operation. He's at the first chair and seems to be incharge so I assume that he is the owner. My wife has been cutting my hair throughout our 63 -years of marriage. Unfortunately, she is in the end stages of Colon Cancer. So finding a decent barber is all new to me. The price listed on their website, https://cosmosbarbershop.com/about.php, indicate $12 for men's haircut less $2 for Seniors. Their hours of operation are: 7 days week Mon-Fri 8 AM - 7:30 PM, Sat & Sun 8 AM - 7:30 PM. My friend is happy with them for a good number of years and his grown son goes there as well. So I decide to give them a try. The shop was busy with about 3/4 of the chairs in use. I sit and wait my turn. They don't use a 'take a number' system to determine who is next. The fellow in the front keeps track of the order in which customers come in. When my turn comes up, I am directed to a newly vacated chair near the rear of the shop. I tell her that I want a short haircut all over but not a "Flat Top." She asks me if I want the hair on the back of my neck 'blended' instead of a straight razor cut. She begins to cut and we have a nice chat. Her name is "Sunny"and she is from Korea. She went to Barber School over 8 years ago when she first entered the U.S. It didn't take long. I didn't time her but it seemed like just 10 minutes from start to finish. Bottom line - it was quick, trouble-free and we had a nice chat! Oh yeah, the finished haircut was fine! I'll be going back! I was a 1st time senior customer and inquired about the cost of cut and 1 color through text messaging. ( a friend gave me a phone number of an employee ) I was quoted $85. I came in nothing special was done, paid $85 + tip I then received a flyer that says 1 color starts at $55. I am not sure why there was a $30 difference? I guess beware of add ons. read more

The good is they can get you in a walk-in, the bad is they will clip off your eyebrows with clippers like they did to my husband. I just tried to call and ask for someone that speaks English.. She said no one here speak English and hung up on me. I wanted to tell them that eyebrows should only be trimmed with scissors not clippers.. language is a problem. read more

Great pricing and pretty quick service. Never had to wait in line because they always have tons of barbers/stylists working. I'm pretty simple with my haircuts and just communicate with stylist and have never been disappointed. I'm new in town, but I go every 2 weeks. First time visit had an outstanding experience and amazing outcome. My mother's hair got severely tangled; I was asking around for someone who could tackle the problem and I was referred to Sunny. I texted Sunny with pictures, she quickly replied that she could do it and provided the price. Sunny is exactly like her name, warm, friendly, and positive energy. She treated my mother with gentle care and grace while she CONFIDENTLY and SKILLFULLY worked her magic on her hair. I thought my mother's hair situation would be impossible to address but the result came out better than we expected. Sunny is an angel and a MIRACLE WORKER. Sunny really knows her craft. If I could give zero stars, I would. This was hands down the worst haircut I've ever had--it takes real effort to be this bad. I went in expecting a simple, clean cut, and I walked out looking like I lost a bet. The barber clearly didn't care about attention to detail, and for $20, you'd think they'd at least try. But nope--uneven lengths, rough edges, and a complete disregard for what I actually asked for. It's almost impressive how bad it is. And somehow, they're not even satisfied with the $20 they charge. They expect a tip every single time--even if they just took a shit on your head. If you don't tip, they get mad and will actually argue with you, like they didn't just create the disaster sitting on your scalp. And to top it off, that owner is so full of himself, he'll give you the worst attitude imaginable, as if he doesn't care about customers. Guess that explains why the place is a disaster. Save yourself the disappointment (and a trip to another barber to fix their mess). If you're someone who values human decency and respect, don't go here. My family and I have been looking for a place to get our haircut in Pleasanton. We have someone we love in Castro Valley however it would be more convenient to find someone closer. My husband had his hair cut there and was pleased. I decided to go on a Tuesday with my son hoping to not have to wait. There were plenty of stylists available I had Hannah I don't know who my son got. I showed Hannah a picture of a face framing hairstyle layers at about shoulder length. Hannah looked at the photo and got to work. I went in with my hair already washed so it was damp. I was very pleased with the results it was exactly like the photo! The back layered nicely as well. My son was also happy with his haircut too. I don't know about coming on a weekend but on Tuesday we were just able to walk in no appointment. The total for both haircuts was $ 37.00 before the tip. On the website it states men's haircuts are $ 12.00 and women's cuts $ 15.00. But to be fair Hannah did a full blowout of my hair and styling. And my hair was past my shoulders as well. If they attempt to style your hair ask if it is an extra charge. I was very pleased with both haircuts and the blowout looked beautiful as well. I was going to remove a star because of a man who worked there and the way he was addressing a female employee who wanted to leave early. She was at the station by the window. He was REALLY rude it put me off. There is obviously a back room to address those types of situations and you don't have to put your employees on blast in front of customers who are trying to have a relaxing experience. My Dad and I have been going to Cosmos for years now, and we have zero complaints. The pricing is pretty fair compared to other places. The place is decorated with local and professional sports teams. It is pretty cool, and also shows that Cosmos is a big part of Pleasanton's history and community! The ladies are always super nice and respectful. There are around 10-14 hairdressers, so the wait times are always minimal. I know if I need a haircut, I can count on Cosmos to get the job done right at an amazing price! read more

This is the worst barbershop in town! If you're not White, don't even bother going. I used to tip generously (20-30%), yet they constantly rushed my haircut, skipping fine details and finishing up without care. I don't know man, last time I went, I had to get it fixed elsewhere by a different barber. This time it's not that bad, but still, I would recommend going elsewhere. Came here for the first time for my 10 month olds first haircut. It was a Sunday morning around 9am and there was no wait. It was so cute, they have a kid drape and booster to sit in. Then Cosmo gave us a my first haircut certificate, an envelope to save some of the cut hair and a lollipop. I will come back for his future haircut and it's only $10. read more

I wish I could give a negative star. The barbers here are just focused on getting things quickly done. It totally depends on who does it for you. I took both my sons for a haircut today and one of them did it well and the other just went on her own way. In spite of giving instructions- she just cut the hair so badly. Surreal place. If Cosmo/owner is not there to give direction you kinda wait for someone that is available to wave you over. No introduction or other unnecessary conversation. Just "What you want?" Then it is off to the races. Edward Scissorhands can't hold a flame to many of these barbers. I think she was finished with me in under 5 minutes. Supercuts beware! It came to an unbelievable $12 and I told her it was the fastest haircut I had ever received. I gave her $3 tip. My 11 year old daughter was in her chair for 30 minutes and the bill came to $30 dollars. I don't know how that number was calculated, but because my daughter was very happy with the results, I paid the $ and gave her a $10 tip. My barber maybe seeing the tip for the other barber or thinking over my comment came over and said "I did my job, your hair easy to cut." I wasn't sure what she was after as there was a language barrier. Rule #1 get your barber's name. Rule #2 bring cash. Rule #3 expect to try different barbers until you get one you like and then only go to that barber and tip big. If you do get an Edward Scissorhands expect to change your clothes and take a shower after as hair goes everywhere. read more

This place was charging $12 until recently and now they have raised it to $15, which was ok with me although that is a 25% increase. Our inflation is high but not that high. But, I think there is a bit of arrogance on the part of the barbers. My hair cut took 15min. There was a language issue. The barber was an asian lady with light brown hair. Forgot her name. I received a 1 inch cut on my forehead with a straight razor, by Lyn who has the booth next to the window in the right hand corner as you walk in. Lyn didn't even apologize for also cutting my right ear with the razor as well. I was really disappointed because I brought my son to see her as well. She rushed both of us out of her chair. She had to have known that using the corner of a razor will cut. I'm strongly considering taking this issue to a attorney, due to negligence. Now I have a scar on my forehead. I went to this place because I knew they were good last time I got a haircut. Mary cut my hair (my hair is little pass my shoulder)I said I would like 2 inches off, I didn't get no wash or anything special done. It took her probably 10 minutes for a straight bob cut, and thinking it was just $15 and to my surprise she asked for $25! Their website says $15 and $10 for senior. I find that she overcharged 70 yr old senior for a just a quick short trim and no other services given. I would not go to her or this place anymore for not abiding their prices.
