I want to start off by saying that the staff is super sweet and that's what the 2 stars are for. Here's my (very long) story:
I first came to CorrectVision Laser Institute in 2012 and had Lasik with Dr. Concool. Everything was great, everyone was helpful and I could finally see! Great experience!
I went back I'm January of 2018 to see if I could get an adjustment since I've started wearing glasses again. I saw Dr. Bosem this time. He told me that this time I'd have to do something called PRK instead of the Lasik because they've already cut the flap once and didn't want to risk cutting it again. I totally understand that. He also told me that the downside of PRK is that the healing can take up to a week. So my vision might be blurry or hazy in that week. They also have to put a contact in for healing purposes. I agreed and we set an appointment.
The first day was pretty rough. Much more painful than Lasik. They basically have to scrape the epithelial layer off so that's exactly what it feels like afterward. I could barely keep my eyes open for the next couple days. I rested and used the drops as instructed.
Now here are some things about PRK that they weren't very clear about.. The healing process can take MONTHS. And for me it did. The first week was painful and if your vision isn't that bad to begin with, it becomes much worse after the surgery. Like, no driving, no working, no looking at anything unless it's right there in your face! I had to Uber to my many follow up appointments which became expensive.
After one week it seemed like everything was going well. I went to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night feeling like someone poured soap in my eyes. When I went in the next morning, I could barely open my eyes again. They assured me that my eyes were just really dry and everything was fine. I asked the doctor to replace the bandage contact because I was worried whatever made my eyes burn might still be on the contacts.
The next few days were better. This was week 2 and my vision was still blurry, but I went back to work anyway. I'm a hair stylist so it was extremely inconvenient that it took so long for my vision to be fully restored.
Week 3 was about the same, vision wise. Still blurry with brief moments of clarity. Week 4 was when I finally felt like I was almost 20/20.
As I went back time and time again, I felt like Dr. Bosem was very dismissive when I expressed concern. He didn't seem to remember me from week to week and after 3 weeks assumed the bandage contacts had been removed, but no one ever removed them! Once they were out, my vision became better and better as the days went on.
Long story short, if you are told you need PRK, do a lot of research before having the procedure done. Know that it could take much longer than they tell you it will heal and be sure to take at least a week off of work. I wish someone at CorrectVision would have been honest with me about how long this might take to heal Because I never would have had it done. I'm very disappointed because my first experience with Dr. Concool was great and I recommend CorrectVision to everyone! I want to feel like the person doing eye surgery on me really cares and it felt like the opposite with Dr. Bosem. I wouldn't recommend going to this place anymore. read more
