I became a patient several months ago and was pretty desperate for help when I first contacted Dr. J. He seemed sincere and told me he could help me even though I had no credit established. He said that he would take payments then after taking almost $4,000, He insisted I get a cosigner and he had only done impressions and drilled through my gums to "see the placement of the implants" seems high for impressions and just to see something he could have seen in his X-rays. It all started to feel very insincere and odd he claimed to have ordered hardware saying it was expensive but no news on when he would be able to put my teeth in. I had already been without teeth for 6 Mos. He knew I was upset and desperate and took full advantage of that. I'm writing this review knowing that he asked me to take the last one down and basically threatened me saying that it wouldn't be a good idea and that he's been doing this for 30 plus years but I want everyone to know that he is not who he appears to be and will talk a good game getting you to trust him. Then take take take. . I'm not going to stand for this. I've had to use my hard earned money to hire an attorney. He's refused to give me my money back and ignores my calls. Run away as fast as you can, gave him over 1/2 of down payment for full mouth implants spent 5 months then he met with us told us I'm sorry I did best I could, and said his lab could not make teeth because the work he did would not support the implants before he told me that he was constantly asking for more and more money, even thou he created a 5 yr plan of monthly payments, then yelled at us saying "I'm not a bank" and the after he gave us this news we went to several reputable dentists they all said his work was so sub standard and worst job they ever had seen, so what he did had to be removed and done the proper way, horrible experience and he did not offer a penny back as refund spent almost 25K for nothing not to mention hours spent in his office for nothing, we are not rich people and lost most of our retirement savings to this man, , and many sleepless nights. read more

First 9 implant Dr J placed failed and had to be redone weeks/ months later. Once implants healed half of crowns and screws placed by Dr J fell out. He was always redoing his work from appointments prior crowns falling out and never finished my case. had to go to another practice to finish work and redo his work. on top of that he collected for his services 20k and then charged my insurance company on top of that and never reimbursed. Dr. J even cursed my senior mother out in the office when we questioned and tried to come to terms. James Lajevic put a bridge over two teeth without taking x-rays prior. Less than a year later, the next dentist discovered both teeth were decayed prior to installing my bridge. James Lajevic should not have taken short cuts at the expense of my mouth, my health, and emotional anguish. He showed additional incompetence in his lack of cleaning ability. Instead of having a hygenist clean his patience teeth, he saves money by doing it himself, but has no skills in cleaning. He pretended my veneer accidentally popped off when all along I could feel him prying on it. When it landed on the floor, he was not capable of bending down to pick it up. He screamed at the receptionist (his girlfriend) to pick it up. He said he couldn't put it back on. I had to pay $850. for a new one! He treats his patients as disrespectfully as he treats his girlfriend. Bottom line... he is a crook looking to scam everyone!!! read more

I wouldn't give this butcher even one star. He screwed up my wife's teeth so bad she had to get dentures now the work he did on me is falling apart. It will cost me$2000 to fix this mess. The worst experience ever- not that I ever sat into the dentist's chair in Encinitas. I bought a Groupon they offered for cleaning. Called their number several times, different times of the day. Nobody picked it up or ever called me back. I was in Encinitas , and saw a man holding a billboard " Correct Choice Dental" ! I went in, the dentist was saying good bye his patient, he seemed to be friends without. the patient left. There was the dentist, nobody else at the front desk. He introduced himself, asked if he could help me. I started with having a Groupon for cleaning. He said there were problems with the Groupon just this week, and said good bye. He was extremely rude, short, kicked me out! Nothing, even close has happened with me before during my 65+ years! I would avoid stepping into his office any time! There are so many dentists in Encinitas, in San Diego, and it's area, there must be somebody else you want to do business with! read more

Dr. LaJevic (license #65270 - probationary license) was to do 4 crowns, invisalign, & 4 SRP quads. He said if I paid him $4500 up front he would give me a great price for the procedures. I told him I felt #14 needed a root canal. He didn't want to do a root canal first but just put the crown on because he said too many dentists immediately want to do root canals. After the crown was placed, my pain increased so he tore off the crown & started a root canal. He removed one nerve and sounded excited when he removed the nerve saying out loud, "I got it". He then stopped the procedure stating there wasn't enough surface to put on a crown. He then removed one root at a time. I've never been to a dentist that ever needed to pull one root at a time. He then put on a temporary bridge which I had on for over 7 months. I feel the bridge would have been unnecessary if he would have done the root canal in the first place. By him stating there wasn't enough surface to attach a crown means he either destroyed what was there when he removed the crown or he was actually afraid to do a root canal. On 2/6/18 his notes say he prepped #19. Since I was numb he did an impression but did not make sure my tongue was in the proper position so during the impression I was actually biting down on my tongue the entire time. When he took out the impression my tongue was bleeding heavily. He was obviously negligent in this mistake too. He then put on a temporary crown. There are no notes for when he put on the permanent crown on #19 but it looks around the middle to the end of March 2018 when he did so. On 6/5/18 he then removed the crown as I had been complaining of pain pressure when chewing. He then gave me a prescription for antibiotics and put on a temporary crown that day as well. We waited months to see if it would improve but it did not. Since he could not understand what was wrong with #19, he set up an appointment for me to see an endodontic specialist, Dr. Joseph Parker, on 3/6/19. Dr. Parker explained that #19 needed a root canal since he did not feel it would heal to a normal state. He sent his evaluation to Dr. LaJevic. So on 3/16/19 I called Dr. LaJevic to speak about my case and my daughter's case as well. Our telephone conversation lasted one hour and 22 minutes. He said he was very concerned with our welfare and felt bad about the damage he created with my daughter. I asked him bluntly if he carried General Liability and Practice Insurance for his office. He said that he did not. He then told me that he would see what he could do for my daughter as well and how he wanted to move forward with my tooth problem and that he would contact me shortly. It was then on 4/2/19 when he called me on the phone to say he had done enough for us and would do no more for us and that he was not going to discuss anything more with me. He said he did not want to do the root canal because of the damage he did to my daughter and was afraid that might happen to me. He also told me to not even step foot in his office again & immediately hung up. I was in shock to say the least and of course felt sick to my stomach as I knew he just stole a good part of my money. He abandoned his patient in pain & I still just have a temporary crown on #19. I called his wife/office manager, Lori Werder, 4/10/19 to see if we could come up with a compromise before I was to file any complaint or to sue him in small claims court. She said to write them an email & she would respond. I sent the letter on 4/10/19 & asked for a reply within 2 days. There was never a response so I tried to call their office twice on 4/16/19 but there was no answer. In his notes, he stated that he did all 4 SRP quads on 1/30/18. That is a fraudulent statement as I never had it done! So, in reality, he only did one crown, #14, he gave me a retainer instead of invisalign, he did not finish #19, never did #18 or #3, nor did he do any SRP's. He's a liar & a fraud & should lose his dental license. I have filed a complaint to the Dental Board of CA. I'm also suing him in small claims court for breach of agreement and fraud. read more

I went here based on a referral from someone I used to work with. He put two crowns on two lower teeth which felt terrible, and would consistently cut my gums and teeth. Based on other reviews and personal experience, there's no point in fighting with him. But, I did anyway and would be told no the work he was done was fine which it wasn't. Recently I went to a dentist somewhere else and was told the two crowns he put on were the wrong size and each had a gigantic space underneath big enough for food to get stuck under. Even with proper brushing and flossing food remains stuck. He also messed up a root canal on a molar, which was messed up badly it resulted in a pulled tooth. He also refused to do a deep cleaning on my teeth. Now I'm spending $2,500 at my new dentist to fix the work he screwed up previously. I have definitely done my research and know I made the best decision choosing Dr. Ishmail. I met with 5 other dentists before deciding to have Dr. Ishmail insert two implants and a crown. I have a friend who had implants several years ago, prepaid 5,000 dollars in advanced and her dentist was unable to finish the work, saying the implants did not take. That is the reason I had 5 opions from local Vegas dentist. (She is now going to Dr. Ishmail and he is taking care of her.) He inserted two implants December 13 2013 and today March 21 2014 the whole process is done and his work is amazing. He put a crown over two implants and the color, shape size matches my opposite side perfectly. As far as the cost my insurance covered 50 % and I'm making payments through his office. His prices are very fair. The process was ultimately painless. Also, the bonus is Dr. Ishmail is kind, gentle, compassionate with a great sence of humor. If you need implants he is the one to go to.
