As a Realtor, I'm used to vetting contractors, so I gathered five different quotes for this project--including bids from Tytum, Progressive Heating, and Fuse AC. Airmaxx not only provided the best price quote, but their proposal was the most complete. They were the only ones who made the permitting process completely seamless, which was critical for my tight timeline. And great equipment recommendation. The Carrier 37MURA High-Efficiency Heat Pump--it's a "slim line" model, so it has a much smaller footprint than those old bulky cubes, which was perfect for my San Diego side yard. Plus, it uses variable-speed inverter technology, making it really quiet and efficient. The communication with their office was prompt and professional from the initial Yelp inquiry to the final invoice. They scheduled the work quickly, and the installation of the new Lennox furnace was fast and clean. It's rare to find a company that hits the trifecta of best price, highest quality, and fastest turnaround. I highly recommend the Airmaxx team for anyone in San Diego looking for reliable HVAC work!

It was a Big job, and I must say the West Coast team did an excellent job. Communication was great throughout, and the entire team was a pleasure to work with. We had a couple of other companies provide quotes, and West Coast beat them all! They were reliable, professional, and affordable. The installation went smooth and passed all inspections with flying colors! Thank you to the West Coast Team for the Great service!

Uriel Blancas is the HVAC tech who did the spring maintenance re-check today and he did an…read moreexemplary job. 10/10, FIVE STARS IN ALL ASPECTS. TIMELY- Uriel called 30 min before his arrival and then, arrived at the stated time. This is particularly helpful so I can move my bunny to another room with all of his belongings. ATTENTION TO DETAIL - I saw him place a protective cloth down on the floor before he placed the ladder and tools down. I also noticed there was a bottle of cleaner with his supplies. He cleaned the inside vents as well as the compressor on the roof. He also tied off a loose wire/when checking the air handler in the ceiling. KNOWLEDGEABLE and THROROUGH - Uriel did a complete system check and then, he sat down with me to explain what was done and why. He addressed the concerns I had about some of the prior readings in terms that I could understand and shared tips that will help ensure my system runs at its most efficient. Example: A higher MERV doesn't always mean "better" and can actually restrict the airflow. He said that for my particular system I should use a MERV10 filter and change it every 3 months. He changed my filters and then, left me with two spares to use before the fall check comes. FRIENDLY - In the course of chatting with Uriel, it came up that I might benefit from having more filtered air coming into my condo. He made a recommendation for a part that would replace the standalone room air purifier I currently use. He placed this info into the after-visit summary so I can "research it and see if it fits with my needs and finances." There was zero pressure to make a purchase on the spot. And while this next item has nothing to do with the knowledge or ability of an HVAC tech, I greatly appreciate that he did NOT smell like cigarette / e-cigarette smoke or strong cologne as I have a bunny and people in my family have asthma. Thank you, Uriel, for a job well done.

A second company gave us a wide range of less ridiculous pricing, but no real answer to the issue and they never ended up coming back. With a wedding looming, we assumed we'd have to wait for the summer to save more money and maybe get lucky with some wedding gifts to help pay for it all. So glad I saw Surf Bros HVAC in the neighborhood and gave it another shot. Red actually diagnosed the issue on our unit, returned with the correct part on the same day, topped off our refrigerant, and helped me sort out the new controller I installed for way less than a thousand dollars. We feel like we won the A/C service lottery on this one, what a great find in 2026 when it's summer every other week.

Was able to squeeze me in for the next day and had Red come out to diagnose and give me his report/findings. Red and (James?) showed up on time and were super easy to talk to. Very down-to-earth guys and clearly knowledgeable about mini splits. Red looked at the system and talked me through what he was seeing, which, unfortunately for me, wasn't good news. When we went into the house, they provided me with valuable insights into the best systems and how we could route a new set of splits/pumps. Honest guys and clearly out there working hard. Overall a really good experience with a small local SD company.

Install went very smoothly and they installed a thermostat of my choosing, even though they mostly support nest. They even fixed an issue with my downstairs vents where they weren't getting airflow (One of the splitters came undone in a wall). Post install is where this company shined: Both the AC and Furnace went awry shortly after install. Marco came out promptly and spent a good chunk of his time investigating the AC to see what went wrong and got it working again. I did end up finding out post install that the AC cut-off box switch was failing and needed replacement. The heater had a manufacturing error where they had to reduce a part twice. Overall. Very good work at a good price and stand by their work.

Instead, they installed an undersized 2.5-ton unit without performing a standard heat load calculation. The Technical Failure: For months, our system failed to cool. Paulson's technicians repeatedly blamed our ducting--which had never been an issue--rather than admitting the unit was undersized. The error was officially documented during our home sale when the unit failed inspection. The HOA's new preferred HVAC vendor confirmed the mismatch, leaving us to deal with the fallout during escrow. The Customer Service Experience: Dishonesty: When presented with a professional load calculation, management dismissed it, claiming I had simply "plugged it into the internet" rather than acknowledging the data from a licensed contractor. Zero Accountability: Management refused a refund, hiding behind "you signed the contract" to avoid taking responsibility for their own sizing error. The Financial Impact: This negligence cost over $8,000 for the initial mismatched installation, plus several thousand more for a correct replacement required to close the sale. There is a reason the Laurel Bay HOA in Bankers Hill no longer contracts with this company. It takes more than one bad job to lose HOA-preferred vendor status. Save yourself the $8k+ nightmare and hire a firm that performs industry-standard tests before installing equipment. Do not trust their "judgment" over actual data.
