I was visiting NY for a very quick stay and have been needing a haircut for weeks. I found Corona online and based on the great reviews I took a bet on the place. I am someone who does not frequent barbers because I have had my fair share of hack jobs over the years. Since finding the lady I go to back home she has been the only one I have trusted for years to cut my hair. But unfortunately our schedules have not aligned in recent months and I was well overdue. It was a Sunday night shortly before closing and I wasn't sure if they would take me as a late walk-in, but Jeferson was just finishing up his dinner and told me he could take me shortly. I had done a short run from my hotel to make sure I was able to get there ASAP before they closed, so I was dripping sweat. Upon sitting in the chair I appreciated that Jeferson took the time to blow-dry my head dry before starting; we were off to a great start. Because I have had so many hack jobs in my day I tend to be a bit critical and I have learned over the years what to expect when someone either does or does not know what they are doing and have even left the chair when I "sense danger." Want a straight edge shave or a custom fade? They can handle it. A particular hair design or professional look? Easy peasy. For gentlemen who are looking for skin care, hot towel action, or a facial peel, they have that as well. I've seen them trim beards with ease while making even the most plain of hairs look fly as hell on an urban scale. Jose, the owner, is one of the nicest guys, as is his crew of talented barbers. Seems to be the same experience as some others from reading the reviews. I'm writing this on behalf of someone else (which is why you'll see a female name attached) since I introduced this shop to based on what seemed to be overall great reviews. I wish I'd dig a bit deeper into the negative ones before making this the regular spot. While the cut itself comes out looking good and the people are friendly, there's absolutely NO sense of time and keeping an appointment. It's ironic that those who make the appointments at establishments encounter issues when running late or needing to cancel, but somehow the establishments aren't held to any such standard. Every single time making an appointment and even being early to try to avoid what always seems to be a complete nightmare of a wait -is futile. Each and every time, this particular barber is chatting people up and having a grand old time while KNOWINGLY being way behind and continuing to have you wait. Even when calling ahead to make SURE the appointment will be honored and letting them know you have other plans to keep, you'll be waiting around for half an hour minimum. Not only that, but the simplest cut - more of a trim, even - will take FOREVER! I respect being meticulous and taking one's time to create the best possible end result, but come on. Starting late, keeping people waiting, even RUINING an important engagement because of course - running behind due to shooting the shit with others - sorry but I don't see anyone reimbursing me for time lost or engagements that went unattended. If certain barbers aren't able to keep any semblance of a schedule, maybe they should be reserved for walk-ins only. Of course, if this happened once or twice, sure. But this has been the experience for about a year now and honestly, I can't believe I kept thinking it would be better or different next time if I just tried to reason with the guy. Oh well. Back to my old barber which I'll happily drive an hour away for at this point because at least I know when I book a time, I'm the priority. Did not have a good experience.The barber didn't seem comfortable or confident what I wanted done or what he was doing. Hopefully there's better barbers in that shop. I decided to give "Luigi Blades" a shot and I would not recommend him at all. My appointment seemed very rushed and he did what he thought looked nice as suppose to doing what I was asking for. Me being a nurse I'm very big on cleanliness, sanitization barbers wearing gloves!!Especially while using a razor blade and having your hands and fingers in close proximity of my eyes, mouth and face. Definitely wasn't not worth $50 and I regret even paying that. The actual good barbers that seemed more experienced in what they were doing were of course all booked up so i probably wouldn't come back here since that's the case! Just came in a 2nd time I set an appointment for 1pm and I still wasn't seen after an hour half later theres absolutely no reason to have an appointment only option if the appointments are never met. Former customer that had to stop patronizing this establishment due to habitually poor time management by the Barber that had cut my hair for a few years. I gave them every chance in the world to keep my business but i guess they did not want it. I bought products they were selling even if it costs a little more to show support and tipped generously but nothing ever changed--There was almost always a ridiculous wait time even though i always made an appointment and it seemed like my barber had a possee of 3-4 people standing around him all day while he was cutting hair. So not only was he running late for just about every appointment, he's standing their talking to a group of people (stopping your cut) every couple of minutes when you finally get on the chair. The end result is that you wait 45 minutes to get on the chair and then a cut that should take 30 minutes takes close to an hour because the guy just won't stfu. I finally had to accept that although this barber was a nice dude and did great work (best cuts i've ever had) he was never going to be mindful or respectful of his clients' time. The shop charges premium pricing ($50 for cut/shave) and although the cut itself is great they do not provide a premium service, in fact, I'd say service is more on par with a place that charges $10 a cut. The place is usually packed with people waiting because nobody can keep their appointments and there are too many barber chairs way too close to each other to the point that you are almost tapping toes with someone on the next chair if the barber spins you. That is more of a sweatshop experience than a premium/luxury one! Every other shop i've been to with pricing in this range i am seen on time and get a nice big comfy chair with nobody else within 8 feet of me at the very least. I go to a different shop now and I am not going to lie, my cuts did come out a little better when I used to get them here but the small difference is not worth all the time, effort and aggravation of continuing to give this place my business. read more

Much needed and will be getting it again. I even got help with translation because my Spanish isn't the best and another barber stepped in to help. The barbers here do excellent work. My problem has been that they do not know how to honor an appointment. At times I've been the first customer & I've had to wait 20-40 minutes till they walked in. Other times, they'd take the first guy waiting, even though it's your appointment time. Last straw was an appointment with Jefferson. Walked in 3 minutes late & was half way through with someone. Tried to pass me onto someone else (which I did due to time). When I got home, got an email stating he cancelled my appointment while I was s getting my cut from his coworker he passed me onto.
